From the above comments i'd say the team is likely to look like this:

                 Paston
North       Dura   Siggy     Muscat
           Elliott     Lia
            Ward       Leo
                 Ifill
               Greenie

Subs: Hearfield, Pav, Daniel, Vuko

I just can't see Ricki dropping Leo, and if he does it'll be Pav up front and Ifill sliding in to where Leo would be in the above formation.

Looking forward to this.

I think we need to consider not just who we think should be in the position, but look at who theyre up against, and who combats those skills best.

Watching the Jets the last few games, this Jeffers guy is looking good, and by god each game he spending longer on the pitch, and just getting quicker.

To that end, i think we need someone like North / Dura in the middle, cause Siggy just wont keep up the pace.

Perhaps even Manny in the holding midfield role, to use his pace, and awareness to hold up Jeffers.

If you hold up Jeffers you cut of the supply to Jesic, who has also come alive since Jeffers has been there.

Looking at defence, well with Ljubo "I talk like Mike Tyson" Milicevic on a suspension, that only leave the other tower of Topor-Stanley, who im sure will be marshalling the defence.

Lets NOT leave Greenie up front to try to compete for route one balls against him. We NEED Pav up front for this game for 90, and maybe Big Mac off the bench. We need their height to compete and beat their tall defenders.

The Jets have been impressive in shutting down the wings the last few games, especially against Brisbance last night, the confidently stopped them from playing their quick paced passing game in the attacking third.

For us this means the like of Bertos and Ifill are going to need some extra support, or work a more narrow channel if theyre going to get any success. Ward also needs to be played, to add that extra dimension up front.

Im not sure how the formation would fall, but i'd still like to see Daniel start and Ifill off the bench, only so Ifill full potential can be used against tired Jets defence, and Daniel can run at them, and bring a dimension Branco wouldn't have drilled the team for.

Im just saying, rather than picking who needs to find form and who played well last week. Lets look at who were playing, and maybe field a team tactically chosen to compete against the opposition, and shut them down, as they do to us.

We can't keep relying on the 50/50 ball, cause so far this season, Lady Luck hasn't been in our favour.

jeffers might improve but i thought the commentators were back to some of their worst hyperbole last night. he missed chances and generally looked no more than ok, but they were raving on about him. it is one of my bugbears about the A-Legue. The commenatures, partic the aussies, seem to feel compelled to be cheerleaders. so many unnecessary and uwarranted adjectives.

Just watched England get outplayed by France at Wembley.....2-1 to France.

France only fielded one holding midfielder and their attack had England continually on the back foot, especially in the first half.

Does Rickie have the balls to put out a more attacking side?
Would he play only one holding midfielder in Elliot and play Ward more forward in a midfield diamond? Would he also play Pav with Greenacre up front.

TBH something has to change....it is no point being conservative. We can't score. Our defending is crap. We are about to play the Jets, Heart and the Victory....currently 5th 6th and 8th on the Table. If we don't do something positive we could well be a distant 8th by the end of the month.

As a fan I would rather support a team that went out and played positive attacking football.....if we still get beaten then thats life. It would be better than getting beaten playing dull football.

Just rapt that Pav has re-signed, and the others. Great move to get all that done when there's money stuff goin on off the field, hardly uncommon at football clubs. Keep thinking back to halftime in the away game in Adelaide. Pav and Bertos ran riot for a while there. Forget about the capitulation and reasons why in the second half. I remember thinking there's no way this side won't make a run for a top place.
Ward has to be given another shot as a creative guy. A starting eleven with Pav and Ward will worry Newcastle so much more. Every side knows that last starting eleven can't operate offensively thru midfield. So they sit at least 3  players players centrally in front of their defense, and force OUR defensive trio to hit long and wide, knowing its bread and butter for their central defenders to handle our crosses from the edges - even if it is Ifill and Bertos hitting them in. Would be different with a Fallon in the box, but we have relative midgets up front.
Newcastle are a Top 6 side for sure. Like all the top contenders, they have lifted a gear in pace, and that's where we're missing out so far.

i dont see him dropping Lia, especially with brown out, but if he dropped him for Pav, and brings ward in for Brown, then we gonna have a very dynamic side.

Really want to see this team in action

phoenix luver do you relise hearfield plays out of position as he is not a defender and was sighed as an attacking midfielder and striker and the way phoenix are going at the moment they could do with his pace up front and from what i hear from nix players his finishing at training is very good

Don't forget Troy played RB for most of that excellent run we had last season. He is down on confidence and form this year.....but has partly the excuse of not getting much of a consistent run.
We need more pace from LB/RB....Muscat and North are too slow. Troy is he only other option.

Nice to see Musa got a good write up for the Phoenix A game
"James Musa looks to be a future star for the Phoenix at the back"
Would be interested in him getting a crack to get Muscat and Elliott in midfield with Ward
and Ifill, Leo and Greenacre up front

Yeh, he gave me the jeebies too, at lot, but I thought he was less worrying every game he played at RB.  Tho' still a worry, less so.

For mine he offers more for the future than North or Siggy playing there.  North does look fairly tidy getting forward, but not as fast as Troy.  And North has cost us as many goals at RB as Hearfield has I'd think, certainly per game played in the possy.  I think you could say the same for Siggy at RB, or close to it.

I'd be happier with North and Siggy competing for CB, where both know how to play and are not exposed for pace and not being asked to play a job they are unfamiliar with.

So in hindsight I'd rather we persevere with Hearfield at RB, or sign someone who can truly play there.  Troy's not the business, right now, but raw pace counts for a lot.  Fix his crossing and give him more time to understand the defensive side of the position and he just might repay the investment Ricki started by playing him there.  Give him time for the A team there as well.

I think it's a shame Ricki backed off from playing him at RB, because we've lost games any case, Siggy and North have hardly been any better and we've lost the chance to have hearfield maybe coming right by now.

But you make the calls and see how it works.  Ricki would have hoped and maybe expected North would work well there.

Ramble ramble ... But Cboz's comment above might be the biggest argument against Hearfield figgering RB out ... lol

Jets are looking like a real challenge now, two very good results from them the last games.  Hopefully they are knackered.

Go Nix!

Agree on Troy totally, people seem to forget how solid he became at RB towards the end of last season so easily.
You know we belong together...

We shall win comfortably. We shall win with a display of sound football.

FIFA, ESPN, Sky, the BBC will name it the world club team performance of the day....  critics from ** will complain bitterly.....

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I'd like to see this
yeh yeh, I know, Hearfield, see my prev post as to why I'm insane ...

Paston
Hearfield North Dura Manny
  Elliott       Lia
Bertos         Ward            Ifill
Greenacre

OR

Paston
Hearfield North Dura Manny
Bertos       Elliott   Ward           Ifill
Greenacre      Pav

But I'd really prefer this

Paston
Oughton/Hearfield North Dura Musa
  Elliott      Manny
Bertos         Ward            Ifill
Greenacre

and try for a combination of direct and wing attacks

Yes yes, truly insane

Oughton doesn't even need to change team colours/colors

I think this will be it. And the usual stint for Daniel and BigMac/Pav off the bench.

I have a good feeling about this one.

Why, surely this is just the same tired recipe for long whistful  bombs up to greenacre which he will fail to win?

Agreed. Even a start off the bench might be good.

Be careful though.. this could be the start of the "he's never played at a high enough level" barrage...
