At this point in the season I feel second place is a realistic goal. Correct me if I'm wrong but there is really no difference between coming first or second? Either way you get a home and away series to be the grand final host. With our home record, hosting the final has to be our goal. On a side note, a two match home and away series would certainly be interesting for our team given the discrepancy between home and away performances. Wheras for other teams in the league it might be an unfair system (i.e if Melbourne play Melbourne twice at AAMI park I believe away goals will still count double)

Doesn't the top qualifier get an automatic ACL spot? Obviously not applicable to the Phoenix, but I think that's the main incentive for the other teamsShowUsYaNix2010-10-16 19:33:46

even tho our attack is looking disjointed it's the goals against that is the problem
sides significantly above us have shipped six and NINE goals less than us
we 1.5 against per game, them <1 per game
would have won tonight but for a dumb penalty giveaway goal and we've had a few games like that

I like Jade North, but since he's arrived we've got 2 points and 8 goals against, admittedly he's had a few away games and can't be sole blame. Siggy and Durante in the middle of the back 4 seems solid

My bad, bottom half - after letting this round play out.

I should have just said mediocrity.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!
That goals against column is looking real ugly.....FFS we have the second worst defense in the League. Bring back McCain!!!!! All those 0-0 draws from last season are starting to seem real good now.
We are 3rd on the goals for list which is OK but what has happened to the defense???????
Its a simple recipe to get near the top of the table.....win most of the time at home and draw most away games...
We need Locky back and get Muscat back defending infront of the back 4

As one who is easily happy due to low expectations, I am very encouraged by our 2nd half against Jam Tards and 1st half against Adelaide (who I expect should take out the minor premiership barring injuries).

Whatever the reason for the last 2nd half (tiredness from the 1st half and some inspiring play from the Cakes across most of the field), the team is starting to play more convincingly.

We should still make the play offs - but making the top 4 will be a challenge (and forget about top two - that seems to me to be a race between Cakes, Kosta's Krew and maybe a late charge from the Jam Tards).

So we got a good 90 minute performance, it's just it was across two different games!

Its time to pull finger!!!

11 games in,  the season for us needs a major lift. The Furries and the Jets can both overtake us just in their catchup games. We then would be bottom three. We have no chance of top two.

Its about bloody time to stop leaking goals. We need to shore up the back. 18 goals is the second worse of the League...if it is not fixed then kiss goodbye to any hope of playoff success.

The season is not a disaster as its still tight on the table 3 to 8th place. But we need to start picking up at least a point away and keep winning at home.

Not well put. When people mention teams having played 4 less, they usually mean each team, not in total.
