OK, let's assume for arguments sake, that the Phoenix beat the Fury, giving them 38 points.

I don't think the Jets will get 7 points from their last four games, leaving them short of that tally.

I also wouldn't pick the Heart to win both of their remaining games, which would leave them short of 38 points too.

Sydney could win all three of theirs, given (as SiNZ as pointed out) their recent good form and what's on the line.  That would get them to 38.

It could come down to goal difference.  Currently theirs is -7 (which would go to at least -4 and probably more if they won all three games) and ours is -3 (which would got to at least -5 if we lost to SFC and Adelaide, but might improve if we hammer NQF).

We need SFC to drop points somewhere, preferably to us, but if not, then to one of the others.  The problem is that if one of the others (Newcastle or Heart) beat SFC, that improves their chances.

The Sydney game is huge.  A point would end Sydney's season. But that will be bloody hard to get.

Nah. GC will get that comfortably.

GC have to play the top three, so perhaps not that comfortably. They also have to play Perth, so wherever they finish, we won't catch them.

Newcastle have fallen away badly. Of their last 8 matches, the only team they've beaten is the Fury. The only team they are likely to beat in the run-in is Perth. I think Newcastle are out of it and will finish on just 34 points.

With the Heart, they have two remaining games that are tough and they're without a win in 4 matches. I think they're out of it and will lose their remaining games to stay on 33 points - but it would be great if they could steal something from Sydney. They are our best hope for assistance.

Of the four teams chasing 6th spot, that leaves us and Sydney. We'll beat the Fury and can expect to lose in Adelaide. That means we're on 38 points without our match to Sydney. Unless the Heart or Jets can help us, a loss in Sydney would put us out of it.

It would be nice to believe that joachim's blind faith is enough, but on 6 Feb I'll be a Newcastle fan for the day and on 12 Feb I'll be a Hearts fan for the day.

Im so glad you wrote that LF1. I could also see a logjam on 38 points which is why yesterday I wrote lets get the Jets game over with first. Now that's done would you agree the Sydney game is the most important of the season (again, so far)? Todays game just kept us in the hunt...

I think so. Trouble is getting that away point. Neither Adelaide or Sydney are places I'd be confident avoiding defeat at on current form.

My thoughts exactly.

I also think it's a bit premature to write off Heart - their results may not have been all that great lately, but they haven't played badly at all. Far from inconceivable that they win their two last games, both at home.

I agree that the Jets are done, they got themselves into a good position but they sustained way too many injuries and can't see them playing much of a role in the final run-in.

1 point on our away trip and 3 at home against the furries. It's all setup for a bumper crowd for that game.

Does anyone know if we're staying in Australia after the Adelaide game?

Can't see how making three trans-Tasman trips in the space of a week is a good idea.

Mr Negative here: The last three games will be over 8 days as well.  Slight plus is that the first 2 are in OZ so that should minimise travel.  Big minuses are our away form and suspensions.

If we scrape into 6th it will be a pretty amazing outcome for what has been a rather (below?) average season.  I hope we do because I don't like the idea of BBS poking his "stick" in my general direction.

Chris Payne (same first name a Beath) has gone to NQF and is out with a knee injury (which of course doesn't affect his favoured goal scoring hand).

He really must not have wanted to come here.

Oh the difference that GD makes at the moment.

There is a chance that a few draws from other teams could squeeze the table in the last round, so Nix need to ensure there are no 'we surrender' performances in the next two away matches.

Adelaide haven't been playing all that flash lately, Jets are on an awesome run of losses/injuries/suspensions and Heart have been average also.

We need Sydney to get a few 0-0 draws, and then score 7-0 over Fury in the last game.

As well as beating North Queensland at home we absolutely have to take at least a point from Sydney or Adelaide as not getting the three points off us would kill off Sydney, and Heart's last two games are at home and are winnable.

I agree, we need 39 points at least. I don't see Jets getting enough and that would be more than Sydney can get; that leaves Heart a chance to get to 39 but with an inferior goal difference to us
