And we'd only need to win by an average of 8-0 to get a better GD than GCU to hold 4th spot :)

Still need to beat Sydney by the same amount, to get better on GD than Cold Roast.

Bit of miscalculation by patrick478, if GCU and Nix both end up on 44 points, GCU go ahead based on GD, and we'd be in fifth

Then 6th beats third in the playoff. Done!

Allegedly

Ah yes, I forgot that a draw against Perth would give GCU a point and take them to 44. But... if Perth beat GCU... here's hoping...

Not quite right there JV. Sydney winning all three would almost certainly finish ahead of us losing last two on GD. If we lose 2, the best our GD would be is -4 (ie, 1 goal margins). And if Sydney win all three by similar 1 goal margins, then -4 (ie, at worst).

However, all that is an extreme long shot, and as a result of our 100th game "ironic" win, WE are in the BOX SEAT!

(ps, come on a Jest-Bling draw!)

We're now threatened only by Sednee and Planes, who have each other tonight, and this is how it goes.

If Sednee...

Win - they can still make the finals by winning their final two. They will equal our 38 and will need to rely on GD
Draw - Season over, no finals.
Lose - Season over, finalols.

If Planes...

Win - they can still make the finals with just a win and a draw. They will equal our 38, and will need to rely on GD. Two more wins though and they can hit 40.
Draw - season lives on, as two wins from their final 2 games could still get them level to 38, again they would need to rely on GD.
Lose - Season over, no finals.

The beauty of this match is that one or the other will exit the finals race regardless of the result.

Most preferable result for us - Draw. This will also end Sednee but pile all the pressure on the Planes who will need to win their final 2 games to match 38 points. The Nix will then need only a draw against Sednee or Fury to grab that finals spot.
now that is sorted......... who do we want in the play offs......ChopperHarris2011-02-06 12:54:28

thanks to yesterday the two realistically possible destinations for our playoff game are the best we could hope for at this stage

we've finally shown we can win at adelaide and that will be fresh in the mind for all if we return

gold coast have no real homeground style support and a sh*t pitch, both these things play into our favour

go jets tonight

bring it sydney

Am I right in saying that we only now require a solitary point from our last 2 matches?

We are already there, unless Jets score 10 and win in there last 2 games and we lose both.

What is the form table looking like?

You'll never beat The Salmon!

Permalink Permalink

At the risk of stating the obvious, the only way Phoenix can miss the six now is to lose to both SFC and NQF and for Newcastle to beat both Perth and CCM.  Then it would come down to goal difference.

Theyre only 5 worse than us, so currently would require 6.

If we lose our next two, they will then only require 4 at most, or less depending on how many we concede.

Would be nice but there's nothing in it for Perth really is there !

Not exactly, if we lose our next games say 2-0 and 3-0, then Jets would only need to score 5 from two wins.

But yeah i dont see that happening.

The difference between the two is only five goals.  So, say, if NJ win 1-0 and 2-0 and the Phoenix lose 1-0 and 2-0, Newcastle would go through.

Can't see it happening, just saying.

Not quite. They need to improve their gd relative to us by 5, either by them scoring or us conceding. Hypothetically, I hasten to add... we lose both games so must go to -4 or worse. They win both games so must go to -5 or better.

Of course, once we do Sydney 2-0 on Weds it will all be irrelevant

Haha i was going from what leggy said but when i read the table again i edited my post - you still beat me to it though. So yeah, if we lose both, the more we concede the less Jets will need.

Not really.

If Perth win, then if CCM and the Roar beat GCU (which they should both do), and then if Adelaide beat the Victory, two wins would secure us a home playoff.

Most of them are very possible, the only one that might screw our chances up is the Perth game tonight.

Similar results at this time of the season last year swung in our favour, and we're already on track with perfect results so far concerning Heart/Sydney/Jets... so why not?
