Second best defence in the league in terms of goals conceded too.

Siggy, Dura and Manny have been immense. Lochy has his moments, but good too.

Should we thank Warner too?

Of course you should.

And Greenacre.

And Daniel, Ward, Iffil, Sanchez, Pavlovich, Brown, Smith, Downey etc. etc.

Everyone defends.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Thats right, if we truly deserve this 3rd spot, we should slam Heart this sunday! We have been given a gift by the football gods, and if we botch it, we will be in for a lot of pain till the end of the season.

I don't care if we truly deserve it or not! I just want us to have it. I'll save wanting the deserving team to win for games in which the result is not important.

So we basically have our 2/3 of the way there table.

On a purely mathematical basis (and rounding up), the table is suggesting the following points targets:
top 6 - 35
top 4 - 39
top 2 - 44.

Given end of season runs, then you may have to bump those up by a point or two in each case.

Top two is still a realistic (if difficult - probably needs 2 points a game over the last 9) objective. What a neat position to be in.

I know, I know, its serious!

Three of our nine games left are against the people we are competing against for the 2nd spot, if we can manage to sneak a couple wins at home, and grab a draw away against them we should be in a good position. Its the CCM games that worry me, hopefully they have a big enough lead that they rest people for the ACL.

Table is looking sexier and sexier all the time, various Olyroo and ACL commitments are going to give us a little bit of help, but I don't see any team as too much of a challenge.

Can't wait for Sunday!

You'll never beat The Salmon!

Just to check.....if we get 4th we get a home game against 5th. Win and then get an away game if 3rd beat 6th  or a home game if 6th beats 3rd......win and then away against the loser of 1st vs 2nd
to get a spot in the FINAL
Correct?

Yup. I think that's similar to what happended 2 seasons ago.

We were 4th, and beat Pert (?), then GC lost to Jest on penalties, so we got the second home finals vs Jest.

From WIKI:
"The Phoenix overcame the Central Coast Mariners on Friday the 12 February 2010 to finish fourth place which meant it would host a historic playoff game against Perth Glory on 21 February 2010. The Phoenix beat Perth by penalty shootout (4-2) after it was 1-1 after 120 minutes (90 plus 30 extra time). Phoenix then hosted a home game against Newcastle Jets on the 7th of March after the Jets won its away game against Gold Coast by way of penalty shootout (5-6). The Phoenix won in extra time 3-1 after it was 1-1 after 90 minutes."

Then there was some sh*t about playing those handballing, cheating bling boys.

Big chance for sure, but what if we choke?  we need every single player to show up and show no mercy to Heart.  Guess we'll have tard supporters on our side for a change.

We will lose - too complacent. Back at home, biggest crowd, all wearing black, Daniel's 101st (remember Timmy's 100th?), Manny will just be thinking of his wee bairn.

3 pts thrown away.

Sack Ricki.

How is it a jinx to say:

[quote=Wellington Phoenix Twitter]The Jets have just beaten the Roar 0-1. Which means a win v Heart tomorrow will put the Phoenix 2nd. Who dares to dream?!

Is it a jinx to say that a win would put us second? Can't see it myself.

indeed J82 indeed

So we've got a total of 27 acquireable points left to gain in the season.  we must aim to get 12 at home in our last 4 matches (heart, GCU, Brisbane Roar and CCM).  The other 15 available points are away from home (Adelaide, Sydney, Melb V, Melb H and CCM).

A jinx is for the superstitious.
Maybe you should check the tea leaves too
Maybe we have a couple here quoting from the darkages
But its a bloodly good result tonight
No reason we can't take 2nd, unless you want to find one
We are good enough

I'm no jinx expert but to me there's a massive difference between:

"Which means a win v Heart tomorrow will put the Phoenix 2nd. Who dares to dream?!"

and

"2nd place here were come!!!"

We are good enough, and should have a good chance today to claim second place *if* we win. That's reality. No-one's getting ahead of themselves here.

Pish!

My tea leaves (Dilmah) said we will lose too.

You and Ahmad are doing your best to ensure that.

Jnr Jnr is having a cup of bovril for breakfast - hopefully counters your bad vibes. Shame on you both.
