Yeah, From what I worked out quickly in my head, we could be anywhere between 1st and 6th by the end of today.

Possibly even 7th depending on GD.

For these complex situations it is best to not internalise them in one's head.

A draw between Glory and Heart would keep us in 3rd place.

A perth win would leave us the only undefeated team.

Id rather they each only got 1 point as we will lose that tag at some stage.

Still the (equal) best start to the season ever.

And looks like 4 points is the most ever after 3 games as well...

So this makes it the best start to the season ever (again).

It's funny how the bottom 4 is all Sydney and Melbourne. I don't expect it to stay that way for long - those teams all have potential. Looks like it's gonna be another tight table.

In a league of only ten teams a draw is worth a lot.

I'd say its worth approximately one point.

1 point scored + denying your opponent 2 points = 3 points in your favour

Not the same in the Premiership when your opponents will often be fighting in a different battleground

That doesn't make sense. Because you could apply the same logic to your opponent. Therefore any gain is on the other teams in the league, which would be 1 point.

Normally I'd agree with Tegal.  But since monkeyfish's avatar is Galen then I think he is right.

But, well you know... Galen (and Kira - phwoar). That's pretty special.

It makes sense to me. Because in a smaller league you are more likely to end up competing against your current opponents for a playoff spot. So the difference between losing and drawing becomes more significant. Yes, teams outside the match also gain an advantage from a draw.

You:

1 point scored + denying your opponent 2 points = 3 points in your favour

Opponent:

1 point scored + denying their opponent 2 points = 3 points in their favour

3 = 3

Net gain: 0 points

Rest of league:

gain zero point from the game.

You:

Gain 1 point from the game

1 > 0

Net gain: 1 point

In a match not involving your team:

A win = 3 points distributed to another team

A draw = 2 points distributed to other teams

Tegal wins if he changes his avatar to a character from any of the following: Colditz, Grange Hill (bonus if it's Tricia Yates), I Claudius, Space 1999, or War and Peace.

What about Galen doing a motorboat?

Right pretty much all of the time (unless someone has a Grange Hill avatar doing a motorboat).

I know you Kiwis are a bit more positive about all things football than us Scots, but this really takes the biscuit!

So all this hinges on the possibility that your opponent from that game ends up competing with you for a spot on the ladder at the end of the season.

I don't think Steve-O was baffled, I thought he was saying it is ridiculously optimistic to expect the Nix to be competing with the Roar. Well, yes! I suppose so.They were 9 points ahead of us at the end of last season.

However there was only a five point range between teams placed 4th to 7th.

My point is that the A-League is evolving into a pretty tight contest, and this increases the relative value of a drawing a game instead of losing it - well at least in some cases it will. We won't know until the end of the season.

Actually,a tight league decreases the value of a point. As it would take less points to win the league generally.

If it takes less points to win, doesn't that mean that a point is worth more?

My doctor told me I needed more iron.

But it stands to reason, that if you can afford to drop more points in a season, then the relative value of a point is less than a season where you need more points to win.

Cool man, it's all in good humour :-)

It might be time to call in the auditors, hopefully they won't charge us as much as Deloittes or KPMG
