We haven't played Bling yet and we were unlucky against Adelaide.

I don't agree. We were unlucky with one refereeing call at the end against Adelaide but the performance was poor. I don't think anyone can say we have played well and lost this season.

But this thread is about how we're tracking this season (cumulative results), not if we are playing well.

The table does not differentiate between "playing well and losing" vs "playing poorly and losing". It reflects the game results, regardless of how we played - so Junior82 is correct in saying we were unlucky. Unlucky, because we were very close to pinching a point from Adelaide, you could say "an undeserved point", in fairness to your opinion above.

I disagree. Conceding a goal in the last minute isn't being unlucky. It's poor defending and not playing well enough for 90 minutes. One of those goals we didn't mark a set piece and the other one was a howler. There was nothing unlucky in either.  A lot of football results would be different if football was an 85 minute game. If we discounted goals scored between minutes 32 and 36 we would also have 2 extra competition points. I don't see why conceding in the last 5 minutes makes you unlucky but conceding between minutes 32 and 36 isn't unlucky somehow? Why do the last 5 minutes get some extra status as being the unlucky period? It's all just part of the game.

I think mentioning the performances and who we have played is relevant because the table by itself is meaningless. All the teams have had different playing schedules so to get a gauge on where teams really are you need to factor in who they have played. For instance, Perth is 1st but 7 of their 8 games have been against teams ranked 5th or lower and the only time they have played one of the top 4, they lost.

At the end of the season the table is God. Until that point the table is just a guide to how teams are going.

Ryan54, you are of course correct - we did not play well enough, or simply Adelaide were a better team.  I am not arguing that point. I am simply saying that - as you say yourself - the table is not indicative of how we played but only what results we got on the day, deservedly or undeservedly, whether due to luck, to grit, to superior skill set of personnel, to strategy, whatever. In that sense the table is a meaningless indicator of performance, but only to a degree: good teams thrash bad teams 5:1, while when similar teams play, all bets are off.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I still don't like this attitude. Firstly, I think it will be a long time before they are happy with 7k turnouts so we don't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to looking down our noses at them.  Secondly, I think that they are great for the league - there are obviously some questionable things that they do, but they look fudgeing great and they create an atmosphere at their ground that almost every team in the league should be envious of.

You can think like that, it is a free world. I just don't like their off the field behaviour. Having spoken to fans visiting NZ from other clubs, I have yet to meet one with something positive to say about them. Sure they might have numbers and sure they sing well and loud if only you could understand it. But They come from an area which was a contributer to the abandonment of the old NSL when racial discord took a turn for the worse.

The positive being that the A League formed. There was mischief between their travelling group against Melbourne Voctory which was unsavoury and although some might get off on seeing flares and smoke bombs, I don't. Just my own personal opinion. I have found Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, Melbourne City/Heart fans to be friendly.

interesting that you do not include Sydney or Victory in that list, as there has been trouble between fans at Sydney and Melbourne games a few times. I have never seen any real negativity to their fans on here (we even jokingly refered to stab proof vests when talking about Victory) yet everything that the WSW fans do is THE WORST THING EVER.

From the video I saw of the incidents between the WSW fans and the Victory fans, it was the WSW minding their own business in a pub and a small group of Victory fans came along the road, taunted them, threw things at and then later into the pub (pieces of furniture, flares etc.) and only once they were under attack did the WSW fans burst out of the pub and fight back.

Admittedly it is possible that the WSW fans had earlier initiated things, and that the Victory fans were retaliating. Not that that makes any of it okay... BUT from the footage I saw (15 minutes of it) the WSW fans were responding to an attack by Victory fans.

I agree with Frankie Mac, the Wandderers fans create a great spectacle. There are surely extremist elements within the RBB, which is unfortunate, but to be expected. The WSW fans we had over here were awesome blokes.

Wanderland was only about half full last night (midweek) for the Roar game.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I was worried last week before the Melb City game that the Jamtards were far too close to us (was it 6 or 3 points difference?).

You're not kidding. Two hours of Guy Fawkes X 1000! Power blackouts over a lot of western Sydney prior to match - or "brownouts" as the woman on the Para river ferry called it, because "at least the TV works even if I still can't boil the kettle."

They have given us a huge chance of pushing for 4th spot in the next few weeks now. If you come 5th then to win the league you must win 3 tough matches in 3 weeks all away from home. 4th is that little bit easier.

Game against the Jets is becoming a big game. Good buffer from the chasing pack and closing in on the top four. Not a must win yet, but we must get a point.

Massive result! Sydney's first loss. Perth are the real deal perhaps? Fantastic for the Nix. A win against the Jest and we are 1 point behind the Bling!

Funny to think that at the start of the season Lowe was at very short odds to be first coach sacked, but Mulvey wasn't even mentioned.

na they had 3 wins at the same stage last year. Never got above 4th by this stage. In the whole of the last season, they won 7 games. same amount they have after 9 rounds.
