League Table 2017/18

“We weren’t as good going forward” and “nowhere near as bad as people are making out” is hardly a rose tinted view. At no point did I use the word “good” or “we dominated” or “we deserved to win 5-0”

A draw probably would’ve been a fair result, and if not for a basic goalkeeping error that’s what we would’ve got. We put enough pressure on that we probably should have snuck an equaliser, but lacked a bit of quality (Krishna) on the day.

If thinking we could have snuck a draw is considered a rose tinted view, then I’d hate to think how miserable it’d be to not have the rose tinted glasses on!

The last time we looked like a decent side for more than a few games in a row was 3 years ago. Ever since then people keep saying it's not that far off and we were unlucky or just need something to click. At some point you just have to accept that the table is an accurate reflection of how good we are.

I won't think we are good enough for the top 6 until we are in the top 6

Yeah that’s completely fair. It’s an accurate reflection of our season so far. I think we are playing to avoid the spoon, it’d take something incredible for us to make the 6 from here. But I’m a sucker football fan, so I’m still holding on to that glimmer of hope.

Not as bad, did you actually see some of the passing in that game and the very basic errors when it comes to control etc. Most defiantly rose tinted when all that can been seen is good and not the rubbish that  is served up on a regular basis.Sadly our position isnt decided by whats fair because if that was the case we would be in the 6.Hopefully with those glasses on.

phoenix have ten games to go.

we need another 16 points to get to 30 which might be enough for top 6.

Thats 5 wins and one draw out of ten games.

Thats doable i would have thought.

Yep. But then we’ve only won 3 games so far this season. So it isn’t exactly likely either. But I’m holding on to that hope, it’s possible.

Yeah i know, but if i dont try and stay positive about it, that there is still a chance, no matter how remote, it would be a bloody depressing rest of the season.

Weve won 2 out of the last 4 yeh? Have to see who we get as injury replacement striker and we need Roy, so so badly. 7 points out of a potential 12 equals hope. Play till the whistle

I think it has (apart from us losing of course!), if we want to make the playoffs. We're still only 5 points off 6th with a game in hand. We haven't fallen further behind 6th spot from the beginning of the round.

did you not watch the game on Saturday? Can't believe anyone is still talking about playoffs.

I saw a game with a depleted team that only lost because of a howler but was otherwise on top.

I saw a team that looked clueless in forward movement, and was so predictable that Adelaide simply took the ball off us when they wanted. I also saw high ball after high ball lumped from the back and we had no one even challenging for the header, let alone winning it. And we have a coach who still thinks Parkhouse is an option on the right.

Sure, but that was without Fox, Rossi, Krishna, and pretty much Kaluderović. And also playing Paracki out of position.

The problem is that we've sacrificed our depth to get rid of undesirable elements of the team. You'd expect Abbas, Lowry, or Watson to offer something in this sort of situation but they've yet to be replaced.

I guess the question is, who in the squad is better than Parkhouse when depth is tested?

When you aim to finish and be happy with accepting 6th, what do you expect? I have banged on about the fact we should be aiming for number and "one" planning and playing accordingly. Aiming for 6th gets you nowhere and we are we right now? Nowhere.

So, on a positive side......

.... at least it's not like we are at risk of playing Sydney FC "into a winning form", which is what we do for mediocre sides like Adelaide.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

No one is aiming for six, that's a stupid thing to say. Darje has said they're aiming to finish as high as possible, personally at this stage I just want to see them improve game by game so that they end the season as the form team and have good energy coming into next season. They can't win it anymore so finishing order isn't as important as building momentum, buzz, and positivity.

They were doing it the last couple of games too and I think this one was more of a blip for the reasons outlined before.

Please read the forums at the start of the season. A lot of people on here were after 6th place, the team after the first 30 minutes of that first game, seemed to settle down for a 6th place.

The really poor passing has long been a bugbear with me and this team. I can't get my head around some of those blatantly piss poor passes that go straight to an opponent when under absolute no pressure at all in making the pass. Sure, I see them sometimes made by other teams but it looks to be far to prevalent with us I think.

and how many were The Pissants missing?

The excuse we were missing so and so wears thin. Every team has Injuries / suspensions.

Of course they believed it.

Players missing isn't an excuse, there are no excuses just facts. We looked impotent at the front and were missing the players which had scored most of our goals, and further more we'd gotten rid of our depth in those positions... Seems like there's correlation there.

I really don't know how many of you get out of bed in the morning if the world is as bad as you make out.

they do not play like a team with a true belief they will win. Teams that have that belief do not  loose games from 2 in front. They find ways to win tough games.

What I am saying about players missing is that we do not have anything like a good enough squad to truly challenge the Sydney's of the world.

I get out if bed easily in the morning. Being a realist does not make a person miserable.

Keep believing in Unicorns if you like.

And that's exactly what Darje has been saying since the start, he even went out and said the team lacks winners. He's said that they're not proactive and reactive, etc.

They've hired players like Burns and Ljujic who Darje believes has the attitude and desire, and he's also said he's working with other players (he specifically mentioned Ridenten) to instill that belief and desire into them.

It's not about being a realist or not, it's about seeing the good parts of life rather than bad. And your sarcastic remark shows just how miserable you are.

Well, I need to eat a humble pie for saying a week or so ago that we need another defender, not another attacker.  Yet the game against the Adelaide showed that ineffective attack (Krishna missing, Kaludjerovic half missing) made us less of a threat.

We are playing Sydney FC next week and WSW the next.  These are not games that we can win (or even compete in) without a decent attacking threat, even if Bobo is as usual guaranteed to score (or likely to).

Top six looks rather unlikely for us if all it takes is an injury and/or a suspension of one or two key players, and it underscores our thin bench in terms of quality backup. I would hope at least an injury cover at a decent level would be considered.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
