oooo look at that gap down to the bottom three, 10 points!!!

Why is 'bottom three' significant for us?

You seem to be obsessed with it and mention it every week. I'm not sure why?

Top 6 would be good for us, but what is it about us making the top 7 that turns you on?

the significance is pretty simply, we are halfway through the season and like always there is a clear divide between the haves and have nots, last few seasons we have been well entrenched in the have nots. This season however we are pushing for the top four - so I'm celebrating not being in the bottom 3/4 and counting down the weeks that the clear bottom four divide is well established. Just enjoying seeing Jest, Roar and WSW sitting below us.

With our 7th undefeated game, we are keeping track with the 2014/15 season where we finished fourth.

07/08 DLLWDWLLLLWL - 11pts (20pts from 21 games)

08/09 DLLDLWDWLLWW - 15pts (26pts from 21 games)

09/10 LWDLDDDDDDWL - 13pts (40pts from 27 games)

10/11 DWLLWDLWLDLL - 12pts (41pts from 30 games)

11/12 DWLLLDDWLWWL - 15pts (40pts from 27 games)

12/13 WDDLLLWDWLLD - 13pts (27pts from 27 games)

13/14 LDDLDLLDLLWW - 10pts (28pts from 27 games)

14/15 LWWLWLLWWDWW - 22pts (46pts from 27 games)

15/16 LWWLDWLDWLDL - 15pts (25pts from 27 games)

16/17 LLLLWWWLLWDD - 14pts (30pts from 27 games)

17/18 DLLDLWLLLDLL - 6pts (21pts from 27 games)

18/19 WDLLLDWWWDDW - 19pts from 12 games

whilst we are only 1 point of 4th we are 1 game behind the top 4. Assuming we win on Saturday we got to 22 points if City lose or draw we go above them.

Adelaide have Sydney and Victory this week so it's possible we can jump 6 points ahead of them.

Mostly likely, we'll blow it against CCM.

The 7 point gap between 6th and 7th is the biggest it has ever been after 12 rounds. Next closest was in 2013/14 which was 5 points. That year Adelaide managed to close the gap and finish in 6th by 2 points to edge Newcastle out.

Yeah it's been quite strange usually there's a team or two that separates from the rest, and someone roughing it at the bottom with all the rest quite congested, but this year it looks like the haves and have nots have diverged very early in the season.

I genuinely feel sorry for the Brisbane and CCM fans. They deserve better than the shark house owners they have.

The sooner those teams bounce back in the league, the better for everyone.

My heart says yes, my head says no.  In my heart I feel for my fellow fans at other clubs. However...

Survival is brutal, and I am primarily interested in the survival of Wellington Phoenix.  If FFA under Gallop is keen to add new teams but somehow decide they need to take off a licence off an existing club, I do not want this to be us.

The biggest frustration is that we can go on an 8 match unbeaten run that includes 5 wins and still be in 5th, possibly 6th if Adelaide win again. The prior three seasons, we'd be in 3rd place with 22 points at this point of the season.

I really don't see them turfing us out of the league though. I would be seriously shocked if they axed a financially stable club from the league.

Conditions for our ongoing licence are artificially inflated and show the real reason for the bad blood from FFA towards Welnix (that they give us a share of FOX deal money but in return get a crappy broadcast fee from SKY TV).  Our financial stability and otherwise good footballing performance do not count as a factor, unless they turn bad in which case it would add to FFA excuses why we do not deserve to be there.

Decision to grant us a licence extension by FFA is based on economic factors outside of Welnix control - we need to take care of factors we can influence and hope for the others to fall our way (political changes within HAL management or a drift towards bigger "say" by the club owners).  Having some of the AUS - based clubs go through financial wobbles (like Brisbane) is one of the reasons we were given grudging and somewhat patronising "conditional" extension, until better new clubs come along (or an independent league starts).

How come the points are listed under Goal Against column? And Goals For should be Goal Difference. Otherwise I'm happy at where we are on the table.
