Just goes to show that the top 6 this season is really quite even. Imagine if Steven Taylor hadn't hit the post point blank in Brisbane, or if we'd held out a fast finishing Perth in Wellington - we'd be knocking on Perth's door level with Sydney and Victory.

Game of fine margins at times, but at least for now the margin between us and 7th is already 10 points, and long may that gap widen!

Few crucial games coming up for us (actually massive for our season), but also a mix of teams around us playing each other, so if we can keep up this run we're definitely in with a shout for the top 4.

Next 3 rounds should have some implications for the top 6

Perth Glory (not including WSW which is on currently)

Sat 19/1/19 v Melbourne City (A)

Thu 24/1/19 v Adelaide United (H)

Sun 27/1/19 v Newcastle Jets (H)

Melbourne Victory

15/1/19 v Brisbane Roar (A)

20/1/19 v Wellington Phoenix (H)

26/1/19 v Sydney FC (H)

Sydney FC

19/1/19 v Newcastle Jets (H)

23/1/19 v Wellington Phoenix (A)

26/1/19 v Sydney FC (H)

Melbourne City

16/1/19 v Central Coast (A)

19/1/19 v Perth Glory (H)

22/1/19 v Western Sydney (H)

Wellington Phoenix

20/1/19 v Melbourne Victory (A)

23/1/19 v Sydney FC (H)

26/1/19 v Melbourne City (H)

Adelaide United

18/1/19 v Western Sydney (A)

24/1/19 v Perth Glory (A)

27/1/19 v Central Coast (H)

We've probably got the toughest stretch - 3 games in 6 days, against very good sides. Will define how far we can climb up that ladder for sure. Massive challenge, but wouldn't have it any other way. COYN!

How come the points are listed under Goal Against column? And Goals For should be Goal Difference. Otherwise I'm happy at where we are on the table.

Patrick tried to add GF & GA into the table automatically posted by FeverBot but it didn't work. He hasn't bothered to change it back, so the table looks borked.

Ridiculously, even if we had won those two games. With City most likely to beat CCM on Wednesday to close off the round, we'd still be in exactly the same position on the table. Imagine that, only sitting in 5th with 26 points and 8 wins from 13 games, crazy. This season is really the tale of the haves, the also-rans (us and Adelaide) and the have-nots.

Also its oddly satisfying to see the Wins, Losses and goal difference all in numerical order.

And then we play Perth after those 3 fixtures... This will test where we're at.

Strange that we have by far the hardest fixture list, with no real rest time between games - lucky two of those are at home.

Unbelievably keen for the next four games. Any point we gain is two points taken off one of the top four, and a win's even better. With Mandi and Rufer back I'd be ecstatic with 7 points from the upcoming four. COYN

Yep, was thinking last night, 7 points would be a great return from the next run of 4.

Why do 4 other teams have to hit top form when for once in our lives, our team does?

It may be that we're beating them for the same reason other teams are, outside the top 6 everyone else is crap

In the last 8 games the only team below us in the table to take points off a team above us has been Adelaide who beat Victory 2-0. Unusual for the A League and certainly not doing us any favours.

Yep.  Next four games tells us a lot about whether we are top four or hanging in for 5/6.

Jeepers, if we won the next two games it's all on.  I think we'd need to improve a bit to manage that, but with Rufer and Mandi back, Cillian in the mix, it doesn't seem beyond a reasonable chance. We'll see.  Fingers crossed on the yellow cards.  Singh especially.  Dura I think we can cover.  Fenton less so.

COYN. Money time.

A simple selection change might just about do the trick.

One of their players has started 6 games, from which the Jets got 2 points - 0.33 points per game.

In the 7 games he didn't start, they got 10 points - 1.43 points per game.

Ridenton hasn't be great but he is far from their only problem. Last season Ernie got a lot of goals from unlikely sources and this year he hasn't & they are struggling to convert their chances. They don't appear to be chasing anyone in January, so it will be a tough ask for them to suddenly find form and chase down the top 6.

Certainly not an unassailable points difference to overcome at this point of the season if Newcastle are good enough, but they'd need to start getting a fair few wins against the better sides which they don't look like doing.

Yes, much vaunted imports Vargas and Jair can certainly claim their fair share of blame for repeated failures in front of goal.
