This season, I'd like us to get over 10k at games. Pie in the sky but with sunny days like today and a lot more games here on this side of Christmas it is possible. ESPECIALLY if the team live up to their potential.

Perhaps the banner should say - "RU12" for a laugh and see if people can figure it out.

Okay so are you fannies going to do anything about making a banner?

The pullover isn't suitable. We're going to do something else with it.

But the FFA suck and we should let them know we feel that way.

Can some of you get some sheets and do something?

Suggestions:

Fans not criminals.

FFA: If you want my number just ask!

Not the RBB

I won't be there this weekend, but will definitely do my best to have a small banner for the 26th game.

May or may not be on Topic, but just thought I would relate a recent experience.

I was fortunate enough to be in Rome recently and thought I would go and watch a match at the Staidio Olimpico where Lazio were playing Cagliari.

The game was on a Monday evening with a kick off time of 9.00pm.  Tickets could not be purchased at the ground before the game and could only be purchased at the Clubs store (about 1.5km away from the ground). You could only buy a maximum of four tickets and all people you were buying tickets for had to be present with Identification (birth Certificate Passport Drivers Licence) Tickets could not be purchased in the hour leading up to the game.

I purchased a ticket on the side of the ground, not in the "active area" which cost 55 Euros (about $90). This was about the middle of the range of ticket prices, whch ranged for 35 up top 90 Euros. The Stadium has a capacity of 80,000 although "only" 41,000 attended this match.

On the walk to the stadium people were openly selling Flares (not Jeans!), despite them being officially frowned upon.

Once you arrived at the outer gates to the ground, your ticket was checked by a security guard against your identification. If it did not match you would be turned away. Once inside this outer gate, all bags were searched and random people were selected for a "pat down" search. Once through this cordon you proceeded to the actual turnstile where you had to be at the right gate number for your ticket or the automated turnstile would not let you in.

Finally inside the ground you then proceed to the bar to get a drink. All drinks, even water and coke, including beer are poured out of the plastic bottles into a plastic cup before being given to you, presumably to stop the bottles being used as missiles.

I then went to my seat, which was probably as far away from the sideline as my usual spot at the RoF is, at which point I was surprised to find that smoking is allowed inside the stadium, and it seems that around 2/3rds of Lazio supporters love puffing their way through about 10 Ciggies a game. I think I contracted Lung cancer in the 2 hours I was there!

The noise was immense for a half full stadium even before the game. Flares being let off and other fireworks that sounded like bloody hand grenades being detonated!

When starting line ups for home team were announced the ground announcer would say the players first name and the crowd would scream out the players surname. By kick off the crowd were damn near in a frenzy!

Game went well for Lazio, Miroslav Klose bagging a couple,  up 3 Nil at half time although they did their best to blow it allowing Cagliary back to 3-2 before securing the win with a 4th in the 92nd minute.

After the match stadium emptied fairly quickly, with a long walk of around 20 mins to the closest Metro station, arriving back at Hotel in Rome around midnight, with no stops for Beersies!.

Apparently security and restrictions are a lot tighter for games against local Grrrrrrivals AS Roma.

Great to sample some Italian football but it showed to me just how easy it is for us to attend a Nix Match.

Lazio also has a mascot who just may be Nixies long lost cousin!

Interesting, I'm surprised you can take booze to your seat.

The mobile vendors bring it to your seat if you want, but pour it and take away the empty bottle.

Nice report Jeff.

Victory do the Announcer reads the first name, crowd shouts the surname thing. Worked well at AAMI.

Thanks Jeff I always find it interesting to hear about stadium experiences overseas. Last year I went to Camp Nou. Security was not anywhere near as tight in comparison to your experience, but there was no alcohol at all inside the stadium.

Yeah I just meant in my limited exposure to football in Europe there was either no Alcohol at all, or Alcohol was only to be drunken in designated areas in the concourse and not in the stadium itself, so Italy is obviously a bit different there.

I went to a baseball game in the US where you had menus and could get a beer delivered to your seat, the quality of the swill wasn't great though.

Have been to see England at Wembley and Liverpool at Anfield in the last couple of months, nowhere near that sort of security. Do you think that's more indicative of potential crowd problems in Italy? Especially racism?

How easy it is for us to attend Nix games it would seem is the norm. Some supporters in Italy may have fucked it up for others with their behaviour.

It seems like nearly all the stories I've read of fans getting shot or stabbed going to the football come out of Italy.

You know we belong together...

That would be correct although Argentina might be up there along with some former eastern bloc countries.
