Hmm and they only made the announcement that it was on Friday today. And apparently had a meeting about it today.
In summary: still have no bloody idea!

I'm not overjoyed about it being Friday, if it proves to be true.  Majoritiy of our games have been Sunday afternoon and Friday at 8pm is not family friendly.  We haven't drawn good crowds with games on Friday night.  Not sure we'll get a good crowd for this one.

On the other hand it is a playoff game, does that mean we would sellout (or close to it) no matter if it is friday or sunday?

If it is Friday.bet the Thordon resisdents will be looking forward to extra time. Wouldnt surprise me at all the FFA dont seem to be the sharpest tools when it comes to scheduling.

Subject: PHOENIX KICK OFF FINALS

Date March 22, 2012

MEDIA RELEASE

For immediate release

PHOENIX TO KICK OFF FINALS FOOTBALL

Wellington Phoenix will kick off the 2011-12 Hyundai A-League final series at Westpac Stadium on Friday March 30.

While their opponents wont be known till the regular season ends on Sunday, the Phoenix are guaranteed a home game as they can finish no lower than fourth spot on the table.

The game will kick off at 8pm and Phoenix head coach Ricki Herbert is forecasting a spectacular evening.

Night games under lights are fantastic, especially when there is a big crowd, Herbert said.

Anyone who was at the All Whites World Cup qualifier against Bahrain will testify to that fact, and Im looking forward to a good turnout of fans in the finals, whoever our opponents are.

The last time we played at home in the finals around 60,000 fans watched our matches against Perth and Newcastle and will tell you what thrillers they were.

There is nothing quite like finals football and I cant wait for it to start.

Firstly however the Phoenix must finish their regular season against competition leaders Central Coast Mariners at Westpac Stadium on Sunday.

Mariners need a win to ensure they will finish top of the ladder with second-placed Brisbane Roar favourites to take three points from Gold Coast United later in the day.

While guaranteed fourth place, the Phoenix will know what they need to do to get up to third with Perth Glory playing Melbourne Victory in Perth on Saturday.

Should Perth lose, a draw against the Mariners would be enough to push the Phoenix up to third place, while a Perth draw and a Wellington win would have the same outcome.

Couldn't agree more. Sunday afternoon is when we get crowds. Many families won't be able to come on a Friday night, it us quite late for the little ones.

Would the FFA have made the same decision had they had a greater stake in the gate takings, as with previous years? I suspect not.

Not to mention the ratings will be sh*t having to compete with Rugby and Breakers.

I think there'll still be a good crowd, final football, go to it after a few Friday drinks.

If we decide to bring the Kids down, it's not so bad, as there's no school the next day, and they'll likely sleep on the 3 hour journey home.

8pm is a little stink, but finals footy will attract a decent crowd........

Come on parents - I am sure it will be ok to have your little precious cherubs out after 10pm just ONCE in their lives?? It's a Friday night too, plenty of time for them to sleep afterwards. In fact, I am sure they'd even enjoy being out late, I sure did when I was a kid!

Friday is better for me (and totally unexpected too) as I am up in Auckland the rest of the weekend, so YIPPEEEEE!!

My first reaction to hearing Friday night was...." shiite...we have been screwed".
But it will be OK. Under lights is great and we could get a huge walk up crowd after work. The weather will be mega important.....lots will bale out if its wet. I still don't think we will match what we would have got for a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Hopefully we finish 3rd and get a second home playoff and its in the afternoon.

Still its soooooo great to have playoff football.....

Are they selling tickets to the Friday game yet?

I agree re: the little ones, but i'll relish the opportunity to watch the Nix play without little f**kwits running around all night. The screams of children are what id imagine being knifed in the stomach to feel like

8pm isn't really 'after work' time. Doesnt bother me though, apart from having my first flying lesson in Nelson at 10am the next day.

How many of these "little f**kwits" are there in the FZ?

Idiot.

I can demonstrate on you the comparison between children screaming and being knifed in the stomach if you like.

Still find it strange that there is nothing on twitter or facebook or on the A-League site.

Is this normal after a media release for to still be waiting for official news publically?

18 months is possibly a little young to be out that late, and given my lad is running a 7 wins from 10 gmae attended I'd like to have him there, but the parent in me would do it to him. theprof2012-03-22 11:55:49

Hell, I might even do it too.

The Perth home game is Sunday 1st April, 5pm local time. Announced on twitter.

Oh how I wish we had that time for our game. Would have been awesome if all the games were Sunday 5pm local time, as they would have been one after the other.

There were always going to be games on friday/saturday night though. It's way better for TV ratings. That marathon was never going to happen.

For my kids that's an early Friday night - finally some reward for incompetent and negligent parenting.
