Someone with more time and energy than me, go back and find what names he didn't say no too.

Another couple of players that fit the rumored criteria.

As a kiwi who spent a year in Chile last year - I would be worried if we took anyone who was from Chilean Primera B. I saw Pol play about 10 times last year in the region I was living in and while he was banging in goals, the standard of that league is about NZ Premiership quality (players barely get paid enough to live).

I'd say that Chilean Primera A is about the same league as A-League level, albeit a completely different style. We would want someone who has scored goals consistently in that league at a minimum for a visa spot.

raul has never been at a club longer than a year so no. The other guy has some pedigree but not listed as a striker??

My money is on Varas, mentioned a few times and not rejected by JJ that I can see...

Raúl Becerra Has also has been missing from his teams match day squad last couple of games. He's been banging in the goals before that though. Not sure about the level of the league he's in tho. Ecuador first tier by the looks of it.

Benegas seems like a good shout, spent several years at his current club while also being sent out on loan a couple of times.

Contract expires at the end of the year, so a candidate for an early release.

Most importantly, he's scored a decent amount of goals over the years at a pretty steady rate.

Actually he's been playing, scored a header in the 2-1 win against CD Olmedo and was again leading the line in the following game. Not sure why Transfermarkt says he wasn't in the squad.

Varas seems like the best bet so far.

Sebastián Varas seems the most likely. His club got a new manager on August 24 and he hasn't played since. Has 7 goals this season (the Chilean season runs February-December)

Very confusing Wiki - says he played for Rangers and Everton but they're the Chilean versions

Varas will also be out of contract at the end of the year and has 7 goals in 19 games this season. Also reasonably tall, which fits the description of our transfer target as a "target man" (as El G pointed out)

Phew, he might be ok then.

Highlight video of Varas considering he looks to be the favourite candidate right now.

The main attribute he will be able to replace is the hand-heart celebration. Recruitment team knows what's up!

Varas has never played any football outside of Chile. I think he would be a risky signing.

But I'm sure Talay know what he's doing.

Nothing confirmed yet either.

That's a terrible highlight clip. It's just a remix of the guy being subbed on, being subbed off, celebrating for no discernible reason, diving and the same three goals including one where he misses the ball completely and it rebounds off his standing foot into the goal.

It'll definitely be him then.

Maybe these are genuinely the best highlights of his career.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

If they are Mainland, this is not the striker we are looking for.

I'd take Totori over that guy

Agreed, if those highlights are the best hes got hes not worth the plane ticket over here. Feel like this is a compilation of fails that a disgruntled fan of the team put together.

It's just a video some random put together and put on the internet. It could be an assignment for a first year film editing course for all we know and he just cobbled together the footage that was easiest to find.

God knows there's players with impressive highlights reels who aren't as good as they seem (Carlos Hernandez, for instance. Brockie looks like ballon d'or material if you only looked at his top 10 goals)

And if course he might not even be our new striker!

Really his high light reel with us may not have been good. But you are kidding  if your suggesting  his time at Victory didnt include some impressive stuff.

I'm a Carlos apologist and still think he was better than most imports who have come to the club; but that's getting off topic..

I consider Krishna an import when he came to the club (well he was a visa player).

In that sense, Krishna is probably our best import ever.

The circumstances under which the clip was made and posted doesn't stop it being terrible.

Sure, but it shouldn't be assumed to be actually representative of how good he is
