Hmmm. So the goalkeeper slot at VUWAFC isn't open next year, then? :(

I'm not coaching next year, but we came 4th in Prems without one this season. Think the club takes all comers given how its run!

Huge signing!  just gotta get service to him and ball and they'll score.  Any word on if they club are going to sign lewis?  would be good to get him if it meant it relegated sauterio down the pecking order.  terrible signing that was!

so so amped with this signing, says so much about how the club and Talay want this season to go......big cash spent on a big player with proven goal scoring ability.

Queenslander 3x a year.

How much do people on here think the Nix would have paid for a striker of his caliber?

I'd say could be our first Million dollar man, but definitely our most expensive player ever!

Us leaving it late may have worked out, as he was likely a bit more desperate for a club after his Iran deal fell through

1 year deal just in time for Roy to return next season..

But imagine Roy and Hooper in our current formation.

Great signing - time to fire up!

Good experience for the likes of Waine and McCowatt to be in and around a striker of his caliber - will bring some much needed experience to the team up the field alongside Ball

So if it does turn out to be Hooper, which on paper is a great signing, I'm wondering if all the "We haven't got a decent striker. Dome, Morrison, the Club, Talay have all failed. It's an absolute disgrace. Shambles of a Club" brigade will be popping in to comment...

Not sure that's fair; there were legitimate concerns that we wouldn't get one over the line, and it looks we have lucked out with his Iran move falling through - I don't think we haven't tried hard, though, as it seems like we've been looking to get him since August.

Legitimate concerns or not, we should at least be big enough to say 'bloody well done' if and when a signing like this is confirmed.

Well done Talay, Gill, Dome and Welnix.

No, that's only for Tim Cahill and anyone Sydney signs

He'll be so heavily marked and kicked about, that all our many goals this season will be scored by unmarked Waine.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Have I missed something, Hooper is a mate of Chris Wood?

I see he was first at Celtic in 2010/2011. Chris Killen left after 2009/2010.

I presume Hooper would have played with Scott MacDonald in Glasgow?  If so wonder if he gave him any feedback on the A League.

As in keep him for 5 years and get him in the all whites

Ahhhhhhh. Might be past it by age 36 though.

Plus it's a 1 year deal. Be surprised if he's still at the Nix (in a playing capacity) in 5 years.

Good news is the UK imports seem to settle best in Nui Ziiland. Coro St in prime time and all that.

So Wellington was last on the list of clubs he wanted to go to.  He came here because he had no choice does that mean he will perform well?

He had offers from the championship that he turned down. I doubt we were anywhere near the last club. Apparently he pulled the plug on the iran deal so maybe we're the first club.

I have been one of their harshest critics but tonight I will swallow my pride and say we have now showed true ambition

Not sure where you got your first bit of intel from - where has he or anyone else said that?

There's no guarantee that any player will perform well, regardless of how or when they sign. That's football and part of why we all hang around these parts. We get a bit excited when someone with Hooper's pedigree decides he wants to get on our bus. And, rightly so.

Actually no. The deal fell through previously for other reasons.

Anyway.  I used to hate this guy when he played for the dhims, well, any non-jags weegie tbh. Scored a good few against the Dons but very pleased to have him down here.

And no, he never played with MacDonald, they were years apart apparently.

The wording doesn't sound like a player signing to me, but fingers crossed.

Am I the only one who thinks there's a non-zero chance that this will be Welnix pulling out of the club? Either with a sale or surrendering the licence? An announcement regarding the club may well be... the end of the club.

Listen to yourself....

A month or so ago The Covert Agent tweeted that we were gonna sign another ENGLISH striker to partner Ball. Could have been Hooper but fell through. And now that his Iran move also fell through maybe he came back and asked if we were still interested?

But the covert agent is never right
