I didn't say I want the Nix to play this way. I said that I thought Ricky might play this team. I do the same thing before every match. I find it more interesting to try and guess the formation rather than wasting my time writing down the formation I think we should use.

I think Ricky will start like this, and then, maybe change it to a 4-4-2 with Ifill and Greenie up front.
Maybe, in hindsight, Rojas comes in for Daniel. But I think the formation will be pretty close to what I foretold.

I'll play devil's avacado and say that i believe Musa and Rojas SHOULD start.

I'm not so fussed about age, if it makes the more 'senior' players sit up and start playing back at their best, and / or brings the spark we need to get back on track.. then i'm all for it.

Rojas could just be the pace we need, that attacking desire we miss, and that Bertos had a pre-world cup.

Musa, i mean that thrown-in is an attacking weapon on it's own. (I can sense some Delap style chants happening in the future) I believe with the like of him and Hearfield (gah!) on the flanks, we may have a nice solid line up for the future.

So...

            Paston

Musa    North    Durante Hearfield

            Muscat

    Ward              Rojas

           Greenie

        Pav    Ifill

Bench:
Vuko
Daniel
Elliot
Lia

well leave musa on the left as he is left footed, and troy is right footed.

we need more long throws, so few players in the league can actually do it effectively.....huge attacking weapon.

Daniel has hardly set the world on fire in the last couple of games, so why not start Rojas on the left instead? It'd be a lot less risky or radical than chucking an 18 year-old debutante into the back line against Kruse, Hernandez and Thompson.

Oh right, the long ball... that'll really add a new dimension to the Nix's usual attacking strategy!

Shades of David "he's sh*te but he takes a good free kick" Mulligan?

Not that I'm comparing the two, as young Musa looks like he might be able to cut it at this level.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Throws into the pentaly area I think he was meaning, not just chuck the ball upfield instead of kicking it upfield.

Yeah, fair enough. I can see this being a bonus.

thanks KC1, at least you understood the point......

and besides, a long throw is way different to a "long ball" hoof upfield......

Yes prof, your original comment was far more insightful than I had the capacity to appreciate. My humble apologies...

...plus, I bet Musa's throws into the penalty area would be a hell of a lot more accurate than Hearfield's crosses

I guess the biggest debate is the fron three we play this game.

it's Ifill + 2 really.

With Bertos out, and Daniel off form, its really interesting to see what Ricki decides.

Its Ifill + 2 of the following:

Greenacre
Daniel
Ward
Rojas
and to a lesser extent Pav.

I would look to Ward out wide tbh. He's got quick footskills, and playing out wide in place for Bertos means he has little defensive duties, and I think he takes good risks in the final third.

Second spot for me should be greenacre, just because he is solid and reliable.

Rojas has leapfrogged Daniel for me, but both still have bench spots I guess.

However if Browny is out, then this could change things again..

From an All Whites point of view I really hope Musa and Rojas get plenty of game time. Two really key positions. The All Whites lack an attacking winger, Kosta and Rojas will add plenty of excitement and speed, which we don't currently have. We also need a partner in defence for Reid, once Nelsen hangs up his boots of course. Give them three years.

Yeah a bit off topic, but i completely agree. The all whites side we know, could one day be a fast pace pass-move style side. Maybe get Postocoglu in rather than ricki though..?

With Brockie, Kosta, Rojas, all quick wide attacking players. A skilled frontman in wood, with height and strength. Plus Mcglinchey in behind pulling the strings. We could really be a different team. Reid, Smith, Musa perhaps in the backline.
Looking good to me.

Kosta and Rojas yes - but Brockie?
Rojas has to play more - what do the Nix lack? Youth. We lost Kosta and look at him, a few starts, someone showing some faith and he is now producing the goods. So what Rojas is young, is that not a good thing? He creates, which is more than a lot of our players at the moment. Give the boy a chance and show some faith in him.

It is looking like there is going to be a thunderstorm here is Sydney on Wednesday night.

Advantage Nix.

So if Brown is out, Elliott comes in.

If Siggie is back, then he goes to right back and Hearfield moves to the left.

If Leo is out then Ward comes in.

That leaves a bench of Rojas, Greenacre and Musa?

                           Paston
Sigmund     North    Durante   Hearfield
                            Muscat
                      Elliott      Lia
               Ward                    Daniel
                             Ifill

I have two issues with this,

1. why have Musa on the bench, it's not like you'll sub any of your back 4 and Muscat and Lia can cover.

2. I have bad memories of Brosque making Siggie look like a statue and squaring it for Bridge to tap in at SFS last season. Not cool.

Are these just your personal picks?

Cause Ward could be another option for browny? Although I prefer him coming in for a wide player. Also, greeny has a fair chance of starting again I think.

If Brown and Bertos out

                                   Paston
              Hearfield  North Durante  Musa

                              Manny Elliott

                Ifill              Greenie         Ward
                                  Pavlovich

Bench Vuko, Lia, Daniel, Rojas

TBH I've had enough of Lia starting every week, sure he wins alot of ball but he gives away a hell of a lot of ball and free kicks. Think he should be on the bench as a defensive cover but that's about it.

Yep, but trying to think like Ricki rather than what i'd want to see.

To do this, you need to follow a strict routine:

  • Antique your hair with talcum powder

  • Put on a suit, or tracksuit top

  • Sit and watch the TV a bit, while drinking from a pump bottle

  • Frequenty scribble patterns or play tic-tac-toe on your whiteboard

  • Occasionally jump up and practice 'oma rapiti' from school days (making good use of the fingers as the rabbit)

I'm sure there's more to this list, but it's a start. You can never really be in the 'Ricki-zone' until you've done the above routine.goldienz2010-11-30 11:51:25

You forgot:

If you can find one, position yourself next to a swarthy looking Australian gentleman, of Italian background, and indulge in deep and meaningful conversation with him constantly during the game.

A lot of prople seem to have Pav in their sides.Sorry , but I don't see what others do in him.Sure , he's young and quick but at the moment that's about it.Finishes poorly , doesnt appear to have much vision. I watched him for Phoenix A against TW and thought he was very one dimensional, not to mention being very one footed ( OK , I thought he was very average ).I guess I'd like to see a bit more from a striker than he currently offers.Previousl threads have commented about how he's come on and changed things a bit. When exactly?Running aroung like a blue-arsed fly ain't changing things. Bench at best for me at the moment.Just IMO. Jazzman2010-11-30 11:57:40

Why is Brown out??

I would imagine that would mean Elliott comes back in surely. Unless he's injured I can't see Terry being too happy forking out guest wages for a players 10 week stint if he doesn't make the field.

I think it's the poor finishing that hurts Pavlovich most.  He seems to panic a bit and is quite raw.  I think people have him in their sides because he has created some good chances - albeit only to butcher them completely.

So DMac in. Brown and Musa still there.

Elliot has an apparent calf injury.

Interesting that they have preferred DMac over Pav.. I might prefer Musa on the bench than Mac. Maybe not
