are they serious? I dont know what game they were watching but he played bloody well, he's class and showed composure throughout, some great touches

He was poor in the first 40 but straight after half time he improved ten fold.

MV won all the year they had Fred ........ when Fred left they felt apart.

These no brain commentators who do not see the off the ball work, the holes he covers, the space he creates for those around him.... TBH for a while in OZ (as he has not played for Brazil) many said Australia should cap him he is that good he could play in the Australian midfield and we have some impressive midfield players.

The NZ Herald ....sporting section ... a joke at times

Fred did play well all game, and the confidence he inspires in the team is enough for him to have a good game.

he has more control than others, can hold the ball for longerwithout losing it, makes a real difference.

The best and possibly most suprising thing about him is that he has slotted in very well in only a couple of weeks. He took a reasonable amount of games to get going at Melbourne.

I thought the second goal was class, but in no way does this excuse FDJ from using the infamous words onion bag.

3 in a row is good stuff though, Here we go!

re crowd..working on the 1000 per aisle measure I thought close to 9000.

Why did Daniel leave straight after the game and not wait for others?

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Coz he was annoyed that Ricki put him on with 2 minutes to play?

Hope it was that not cos of the 'Nix. Muscat, ( K that is!) is a nasty piece of work, and probably why Smeltz got away with his studs on toe.

At the mo' Daniel is our Ole Gunnar Solxjaer...great player waiting...

What was Fred's card for? It would be an absolute f%k if he got a suspension or something on a guest stint.

Just got back to Hamilton after a fantastic trip to Wellington. Our plane yesterday was delayed by 3 1/2 hours so we missed the pre-match drinks at the BB. Hotel messed our rooms up. I was in the toilet for both of our goals (actually commented to the bloke next to me - last time I was in here we scored! Then Smeltz scored). Now my head hurts. Brilliant trip, loved it all.

That could only happen if he got a red.  He's got one yellow - you need five for a suspension and he's only got four games left, so even if he got a yellow in each of them, he'd have no more games left anyway!

Just realised that not only is Smeltz leading the Johnny Warren medal race he has scored the same amount of goals (9) as he did last season, but this time he's done it with 8 games to go.
You know we belong together...

tv3 had positive report.
tv1 sounded disappointed that the team had a win -to quote "the phoenix are in a rare position on the table" (read in a very glum voice) - true but lets be positive about it.

I honestl think that the likes of tv1 & the chch press want football to not succeed in this country & are only happy when they have something negative to report on.

yesterdays press headline for the U20's draw against England was "kiwis falter"  - for crying out loud -

even without the dwarf, tv1 still seem to have trouble recognising the following football is gaining in NZ, i really don't know what their problem is

Hi all,
First post. My 6 year old and I have been to all the Phoenix home games since they started and Friday's game was the one we enjoyed the most. Yes , the boys played well but the atmosphere just was brilliant ; the YF section went off and the wee one asked me " next year Dad , can we sit there?".  Not sure how to explain what "the referee's a w..ker" to a 6 year old though. So for those who were chanting and singing all game- cheers , made my little fella's nite and helped us have a great time.
I thought McKain was my MOM , just immense , but the other guy I thought played really well was Muscat.Last time melbourne were here , Danny Allsop had him for dinner    but he's learnt from that and played very very well this time. Hard to fault anyone really but there are a couple I'm not sure of ( one was on the bench). Still, best game I've seen them play this year by far .
Cheers all.

No name reporter .......... what MV think about Fred from there forum http://www.melbournevictory.net/forum/showthread.php?t=50293

one of the posts says .......The quality of football when Fred, Smeltz and Bertos combined today was some of the best I've seen in the A-League to date. Smeltz's goal was an absolute peach.

Deserved winners, they lifted and we couldnt deal with it.

I think Sigmund is one of the best defenders in the league on current form. His work rates incredible, his defensive timing is spot on and he's just a great no-nonsense defender

Considering he came out of the NZFC and at the start of the season was most peoples pick as the least valuable pickup in the off season (me included if I remember right) too.. valeo2008-11-30 01:39:56

He's not he most skilful but always gives 100%, pLays with alot of heart, gives it all - is  a real fighter and you need someone like him in defence.
Wasnt in the 11 at the start of the season but has taken his opportunities

"Maybe put Sigmund in our back line? He'd go well. " My post from 15 Dec 2007 - Glad they listened to me ;)  Sigs a rock. We played well against MV. Fred's got some great touches and if people had finished would have had a few assists to his name. Smeltz' goal... nice, real nice.
