Not good, but I have confidence in Crowther. I think he'll get a lot of experience from this when starting.

Plus, I am living with the theory for every goal that the opposite team scores against us, we'll score 3.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Jeez what a spell we are having....first Muskrat then Siggy suspended for violent conduct and now our star keeper out.
The lads are going to have to dig deep. This could be a season defining moment....we either pull it all together without those players or we could slip back into mediocrity.

Crowther is a young keeper with lots of promise....but his not quite there yet. He probably lacks a little confidence......needs a few rounds of "Crowther we love you "from the YF early in the game this Saturday".

In reality he was goalie when we shipped in 4 against the Roar and 3 against Sydney recently. You just have to wonder how good he is in marshalling the defence.

There are only 10 games to go in the regular season. The table is mega tight...it will probably be a dogfight right to the end to see who makes the top 8. Now would be good time for the Phoenix to make their mark....we need to start getting some more 3 pointers.

Just means we have to win the midfield battle and keep the ball up the front.

hmmm I knew we were having a too smooth of a run earlier in the season.

Langerak is definatly on par with Moss and by the end of the season will be ahead of him. Don't kid yourself by Moss's circus-like appeal.

For the love of god, he's not that bad.  NZ v Brazil pre '06 was one of the best goal-keeping displays I've seen.  He makes some spectacular saves, fairly frequently when he has to.

i have confidence that an extended run in the first team will help develop crowther into a good player, he should do alright

pretty hard though to start without 2 first choice defenders in front of him siggy in particular

time to step up crowther

Man that is sucky as . I think we should start off with a big old We love you Crowther. Because if he concedes a goal his confidence will drop agian. Especilly playing Sydney again.

Is Greenacre also out still? This is the sort of team you play agiaisnt youngheart Manawatu.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Exactly. The players we love get attention, then so should he and get his confidence going and know that we're all behind him.

Shouldn't all just be about Lochy even though he's a one man band

Got made to look silly both times against Sydney.Goals through his legs, slipping over, parrying the ball straight to players - not good. Inspires no confidence whatsoever. Can use the 'too young' excuse but then you just have to look at Langerak who is probably already one of the most competent keepers in the league at 21.
Moss > Langerak. If Moss makes a mistake he doesn't fall to the ground pretending he was fouled, he also hasn't deliberately kicked an oppstion forward.

Btw thanks for the new user title.

How about Theoklitos on loan? I'm not sure about the loan windows but he would be a good choice seeing Norwich clearly don't want him

Bugger..... This is the time for the team to show some spine. With players out for several reasons, the rest need to stand up and be counted.
If they do stand up, we'll be fine - if not we could be in for the wooden spoon.

I'm nervous now though

Also, TW would be pretty reluctant to let him go.  The Zoo would fall apart even more without Jim at the back.

I feel sick reading about this.  Very depressed and not confident of a win in P Town.  But hoping like hell for one.  Don't want to lose our unbeaten status, esp to Sydney.

Sorry but Spoonley is just too small to be a top quality keeper.

I stood right next to the goal during that training.
Either he was crap, or he was deliberately trying to give Smeltz and co lots of confidence.

Nah, he's too busy abusing and swearing at referees.

As cultured as Che Bunce's left foot and as profilic as John Lammers

The only positive out of this is that with sustained game time, we will find out if Crowther is the business or bust. Logically, if you give him 8 games he should settle into it and perform and show us what he is actually capable of and why he was signed. If he doesn't then Ricki would be wise to cast him aside at the end of the year and find another 2nd keeper of quality or put a young kiwi in there and develop him instead.

Funny at the start of the year people legitimately thought Crowther was going to keep Paston out and six months removed we don't trust him in our goal.

Grumpy old bastard alert

Wonder what Moss is thinking about his transfer now....
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
remember what Paston was like with Moss at no.1 every game ?

then when he left Paston really stepped up an is now a really good keeper.

hopefully Crowther can do the same.....

yea my understanding was crowther was reasonably regarded at QPR, so have to judge him after a run in the side. Not sure about Gouldy as our permanent second keeper though...
