Sweet nothings from Nathan Greenham from the 442 story linked on the home page...

442 wrote:
Meanwhile, on the key issue of sponsorship of the entire club, Greenham remained tight-lipped. There have been reports that Phoenix were about to unveil a $10m sponsor, but the CEO said this was premature.

Its important to ensure that both parties are comfortable with all the relevant parts of any contract before any official announcements can be made, Greenham said.

He also played down the financial troubles of Phoenix owner Terry Serepisos, who recently cleared his $4m debts with the IRD and ACCand was hoping to have secured a US$100m loan from the Middle East.

Were glad that the financial challenges have been dealt with," said Greenham. "Its been difficult for all clubs for a variety of reasons and were no exception, but we were a long way from any serious danger.

Phoenix recently completed a five-year strategic plan setting short, mid and long-term goals.

Greenham added: The excitement for me and the others here at the club is the massive opportunity that awaits us in continuing to grow our very strong product.

Surprised this article hasn't managed to get more traction on this forum.

It's a seriously troubling story about Terry's benefactor (where are you, Dolores?).

I'm right here. Why do you ask? Are you under the misapprehension that I thought all along that Ali Syed was the real deal, rather than not declaring him a crook until the evidence was in (and the evidence seems to be in)?

Clearly he's not Terry's benefactor because no money arrived. Terry's benefactor is whoever paid that $4 million, and I'd like to know who that is. Since we no longer rely on Ali Syed for anything, he can get sent to Pound-Me-In-The-Ass Prison for life for all I care.

Not sure what to make of whats going on at the moment.

The team....or at least the 11+ that we have on the books meet for preseason stuff in mid June. There is no current assistant coach or physio or conditioning coach. Rickie will be away with the AW's in early June.
In the meantime the rumours on the money situation have all but dried up. The CEO of the A-League has backed off from his "I'm here to sort out the Nix trip" in May. We have signed someone. The killer "B's" games have been confirmed for next season.

I assume the wages are still being paid.....so it appears that there is still a faint pulse beating in the ol' Nix . Its hardly rah! rah! flag waving stuff but at least its still alive.

You have to wonder whats going on behind doors. Has the money flush NZF done some sort of temporary prop up deal with FFA and Terry? or has Terry's fairy godmother found another pot of gold somewhere?

You sound amazed by this. This is what happens when people talk themselves into a gloom frenzy. But that's what comes of falling for media spin. For example, Worthington this morning is playing the "OH NOES Nix aren't making signings right now all the good players will be gone!!!" When of course the problem last year is that we made rush signings. One of them was Toto, another was Jade North. I'm more relaxed if Ricki et al are taking their time and, for example, actually going to see people play rather than relying on YouTube clips.

I agree with the following thing from Andrew Dewhurst, us as fans have been relatively left in the dark recently, all we seem to be hearing from the club is reassurances that things are all going ok, but we haven't seen too much of that. I don't want to be all doom and gloom like the Nix are going under or something just cause we don't get updates every second, but I'd really like to start hearing more definite information so I could start feeling a little more positive about the coming season. It's a long off season, and the last thing we need is for people to lose interest because they don't know what's happening.

I'm really really happy that we have made signings and preseason training is booked. i just think its funny how we have gone from a CEO saying " Terry can't afford to run the Nix and has not been able to for 3 months" and  the WGA money not arriving..... to our present situation. You are right though...the gloom frenzy was laid on us by the media.......we should never trust those snivelling bastards.

Hopefully we can all get back to talking about football and players and tactics etc instead of bollock boring money shiite.

I have heard from a very well placed source that the money came from another NZ property developer BUT that he thought that it was going to be used to buy a building...make of that what you will.

My same source, who is reasonably connected into the commercial property market in NZ has said that Terry is effectively insolvent and has been for months and he can't quite understand how he has managed to keep his head abve water.  He was actually quite impressed by that feat.

I don't actually see how Terry will get out of this without a financial injection from outside his group.  If he could sell assets then he would.  NZ and Australian lenders won't touch him, which is why he went to WGA in the first place, but it seems pretty clear to me at least that we won't be seeing a dime out of that shyster which unfortunately leaves us very much in the same position that we were in several months ago.  I know I'll get accused of being doom and gloom blah blah blah but these are the facts and I for one am not someone who will blindly parrot "in Terry we trust" even though I very much want him to get out of this financial mess.

And I think the key point from Dewhurst is this and it's a point well made.  There are valid reasons not to rush to sign a playing squad when the season doesn't start for 4 months.  Howvere, the lack of a full administration and coaching staff does indicate that something still is not right down there:

At last report the club had no media manager, no assistant coaches, players were out on loan or being let go, and other than fullback Jimmy Downey no new signings appear imminent (despite Terrys promises on Close Up some weeks ago) and even the CEO is interim and has been for over a year now. According to the club website there isnt event a board in place that is unless tba means something else entirely?

[QUOTE=Doloras] I'm more relaxed if Ricki et al are taking their time and, for example, actually going to see people play rather than relying on YouTube clips.

When you say "et al" Doloras who are you actually referring to?  There is no-one else.  Ricki is the only person managing the club who has any football experience or knowledge whatsoever (unless you favour Nathan and Terry having a say on players).  Again, surely that worries people?

And then Pantelis was signed, but apparently this doesn't change the fact that IMMINENT DEATH OF THE NIX IS PREDICTED by Dewhurst. Surely you see an issue here. As far as I see the issue, Dewhurst is a journo and is pissed off and frustrated that Terry's inner workings are something of a "black box", as he has every right to be.

But absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. And in the absence of evidence, I will believe whatever doesn't make me depressed. There seems no point to believing in the imminent death of the Nix, except if you're some kind of masochist, or if you think that expecting the worst makes it not happen, or because you look forward to being "the guy who predicted it all" if it does happen.

... actually, I request that the title of this thread be changed to IMMINENT DEATH OF THE NIX PREDICTED.Doloras2011-05-18 09:46:58

Terry should be awarded all of the contracts to re-build Christchurch imo. Sure, no contractors down there will ever get paid but at least the Nix will live to fight another season.

I think you have made some very valid points. By saying that Terry is insolvent( which he is IMO) does not necessarily imply that its all doom and gloom......it may be for Terry but it is potentially a different story for the Nix.

I reckon " in Terry we trust" brigade have failed to grasp reality. His business is toast. THe WGA thing was a lasp gasp. This is reality. It does not mean we think badly about Terry. All of us wish him all the best, but the truth is some sort of alternative ownership model is now the most likely scenario for the Nix.

There must a be a whole lot of stuff going down behind closed doors. I am fine with that.....its better to do it that way than have more of the media circus we have put up with recently.

There are many highly motivated people who have a strong interest in keeping the Nix going. We should just let them get on with it. Hopefully the out come of their endeavours will be a strong vibrant football club. I am very positive they will succeed.

Once again we say.  Name these 'highly motivated' people because so far not one of them has been proven to be anything other than a very large straw for people to clutch at.  A WGA sized straw.
