"Off the field, the Phoenix will always be Wellington's club, but next season at least one game will be taken to Auckland, while renewed efforts will be made to secure a route to the FIFA Club World Cup via the Oceania Football Confederation . If you think the Phoenix have had their wings clipped by their brush with mortality, think again. "I've carried this club on my own since 2007, and I'll keep doing it if I have to," Serepisos says. A BIT disappointing?!?

The stuff about $10m sponsorships worries me.

Who, apart from Terry,  in their right mind would want to have their name or brand associated with the Phoenix right now?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

It's not a huge surprise, is it? In fairness it doesn't say WGA explicitly, but that it is related to their interest.

Having time to think about it, i can only conclude:

Where did this $4m come from eh? boggles the mind the mess that seems to be stacking up...

I 've only been to a couple of matches in the UK, but I remember in the programmes that a number of players had 'kit(?) sponsors'. Something like 'Cesc Fabregas sponsored by John & Jane Smith'.*  I think you can do something similar at Wellington Zoo.

How about Phoenix fans confirm they really are Australian, and say "Bugger the kakapo" and adopt a Nix player instead? A little less of a burden for Terry to carry.

* Obviously not a real example in today's EPL climate.

Nope that is not me...and its a crap piece of scumbag shiite!!

Listen guys I love the Nix and I think that Terry has been fantastic in what he has done for football. I would love it if he suddenly found someone who would chuck in  loads of money to help him continue to run the club. But IMO.....and its only my opinion....I don't think he can do it.

The WGA thing will not happen. Its a false hope. The WGA guy is not even paying the bills at his Spanish club.

I am not bagging Terry....I feel deeply sorry for the guy. I feel even worse that somehow the millions that he lost on the Nix has somehow sped up his financial demise. But you have to face facts....he currently can't afford to run the club and the WGA bail out will not happen.

If this sponsorship is WGA and I would think it us, we have to get the first year 2 mill up front. If that can be achieved then great

if however it us installments over one year, I would walk away now and find a sponsor who is risk free and who can meet their obligations

god only knows what the sponsorship is worth to WGA and how complicated it all isAucklandPhoenix2011-04-27 20:33:07

Er.. $2m is chicken feed. Terry appears to be largely f**ked without the $130m in promised loans from WGA, which are now by all account, at least 2 months late.

I hope there is a plan B, but all this talk of sponsorship just ends up with me worrying more.

I hope this is not wishful thinking by Terry, but... what is there to show for his fees spent?

Only excuses, and more promises.

I still believe we need a new owner, one untainted by this affair. Yes Terry, we owe you a lot, and as you know Terry, no "white knights" are going to go into business with you.

WGA have to deliver, or Terry needs to walk away.

hang on.. hasn't he paid nearly $2m in fees to WGA.. so wouldn't that sponsorship deal basically be what he's already paid to them... He should have just put Century City logos on the shirts.

The only person who has any idea how much he's paid in fees is Terry, and the chances of anyone here finding out where any of it came from are nil.

Yes, but we can look at the australian guys experiences and work out the type of figure we are dealing with.  All signs point to it being a figure around 1-1.5% of loan principal.

That statement is also not true, everyone involved with the deal, bankers, lawyers, accountants, advisors, the IRD, ACC etc - anyone who has seen and read the document (and there will be a lot of people considering that this is a major corporate restructuring so most of his creditors will be involved) may have read the loan agreement.

If we believe what Terry says in public about WGA, then he is in denial, and is still falling for their scam. He is on the record (recently) as saying the money is still coming, and we now have the story going around again about a $10m sponsorship deal over 5 years.

If Ali Syed is not speaking to, or reachable by anyone at Santander anymore, then it highlights the state of affairs of WGA/Ali Syed.

Read the article- Racing Directors have had to raise 1.4m Euro elsewhere to satisfy their bi-monthly tax payments- Ali Syed appears to have just vanished as far as they are concerned.

I wish I could believe in a master plan, but all I can see is an advanced state of Denial coming from the Todd building.

You seem to be forgetting that while Terry is in financial touble now he is still a smart businessman, he's survived tough times before. Why do some of you think that all of a sudden he has become an imbecile and is being suckered in by the WGA guy....if terry says he's done his due diligence then I beleive he has.

Denial exists. It's very powerful.

If Terry is moving on/plan b'ing, why is he telling FFA about his new 10m title sponsor, which from several accounts is WGA?

Nothing stacks up.

Don't get me wrong- we owe Terry everything , bar the demise of the club because of his pride.

If Ali Syed is reputable, why are the directors at Racing having to organise third party funding to pay his bills? Why are his players still unpaid?

This is probably the most powerful bit:

11 players were owed a total of 1.7m by Racing; the figures were small, seven of them in the region of little more than 40,000, but still there is concern. Not least because of which players are affected. Eleven players with a commitment to the club, players such as Gonzalo Colsa, Pedro Munitis and Pedro Pinillos, who were persuaded to hang fire and wait by Perna; players who bit their tongue, who did not denounce the situation. When Ali Sayed took over, they were told the wait was over. The cheque is in the post.

It seems it wasn't. They say the first promise came at the club's training ground: the 11 men were told that the payment had been made and would be in their banks any day now. The second was made at Cornell. Ali came down to the dressing room and admitted that he hadn't made the first payment but he would. The third came an hour and a half before Racing played Levante. Munitis and Pinillos were called up to Perna's office and told that the money would be with them soon. Ali Syed was not there but, with devastating cheek, he offered a bonus if they beat Levante Racing's players simply laughed at what seemed like the shamelessness of it. By the fourth, Perna even showed them the "bank slips".

The money never arrived.

The question is not whether Ali Syed is a crook, an issue to which I'm leaning towards "yes on the balance of probabilities, but we'll see", the question is whether Terry is, to use the vernacular, "boned". No-one sensible, and not even Nippert, has raised any good suggestions of where the $4m to pay off the tax guys came from. Perhaps there's more where that came from.

The other issue is that "Terry has been so damaged by this that he can't credibly run a football club any more". WTF? That kind of talk is exactly what the Burgesses and the Nipperts of this world want to impart - the idea that if these god-almighty purveyors of journalistic smack want you to dislike someone, you will by god conform.

(I have seen elsewhere that Ali Syed's money comes from laundering funds for the Hindu equivalent of Brian Tamaki. So maybe there are financial issues at that end, rather than WGA being nothing but a Ponzi scheme. I still have an open mind.)Doloras2011-04-28 08:56:41
