@Andrew_Mulligan Blackwell's do so much for NZ basketball. We're lucky they're so passionate - and humble, and private. No ferraris, no BS.

Well guess what Monique, football is bigger than Basketball. Terry is passionate and he's done a lot for football in NZ. Silly hag.

Brown's article in the Herald rewritten to be slightly less dickish and to grant Terry the dignity of leaving with his head held high. Most interesting is that the council first got Gareth Morgan on the line to organise a rescue bid 18 months ago. Some might ask why they didn't offer Terry support directly, which might have led to him not falling afoul of the IRD and WGA.

It must be said that this whole thing, besides how great all the money and security etc is, is fantastic exposure for the phoenix three weeks out from the season. All eyes are on the Nix now, everyone wants to know the next move these new owners are going to make. On TV3 it was the lead sport story, ahead of both the warriors and and the all blacks who are in the middle of semi finals prep and a world cup. It's created a huge amount of interest just at the right time, hopefully a couple of decent signings are made and newbies buy season tickets or just turn up to those first few games at least to see what all the fuss is about. By the sounds of these new owners marketing and advertising could be stepped up too.

Exciting times for the Nix.

Fuck this stupid game

I can imagine that "founding patron" might be an actual gainful employment for Terry. Assuming that Rob, Gareth and the Furious Five aren't really keen to hobnob with the fans, go sit in the Fever Zone etc, they might delegate that job to Terry. He might enjoy it, basking in the congratulations for four years of good work.Doloras2011-09-23 19:12:37

Just woken up and yes very happy at the news - not because Terry is out but because the club can move forward. Good luck to Terry, but as I've said all along this had to happen.

Don't know why NZF are putting out press releases - all along their line is it's nothing to do with them, they won't contribute money to it, so stop taking any credit. It's taken the FFA to step in and broker a deal that saves pro football in NZ!

Wasn't Terry involved with the Wellington Saints at one stage???

Can I just add - how the hell did the dompost get the identities of its 7 so wrong and the whole details of the handover so way off the mark? They really were so ill informed and printing stories off the back of pretty idle gossip, it's funny, but then it's not actually that funny because they printed that rubbish for several weeks.

Terry has a point with "Where were all these financial backers of the Nix a couple of years ago when I could have used the help?", but of course the answer to that is that Terry has never played well with others. And I am very happy to hear him say that in his opinion blowing $8-10 million on a football team was worth it.
Terry is well aware why others never put their  hand up to put money in while he was there.Am i grateful for what he did you bet i bloody am,but for some people to pretend there were never concerns from the start is head in the hands stuff.

Sadly it was just a matter of time as much as some will not admit it.

hypocritical much?

Bitter sweet moment for me when the news broke. Sad that the curtain was finally drawn on Terry's ownership, a bloke that obviously cared for the club, but positive that at last the club can move forward with stability.

Hopefully between the 7 new owners is the same amount of passion for the club that was held by our first.

Both TV1 and TV3 (and I think Prime news) lead with the story. Be the only time we will have been ahead of eggball world cup.

great to hear this, a big signing and or a win first up could see us reclaim that territory again before the fake world cup ends

all blacks going out early would also help football reclaim media space and player/fan numbers

Reported on TVNZ that the new owners had to prove to the FFA that they could afford a worst case scenario loss of up to $0.5m a year.

These guys are incredible! They've only been in charge a day and they've already halved the Nix' losses.

Either that or someone at the FFA has been telling them porkies??

EDIT: All other things being equal, that could be interpreted as them actually running the Nix on a smaller budget than Terry did. Uh oh.

It's an interesting quandry isn't it?  They are in the main people known for fiscal responsibilit, when that's not necessarily the way to build a winning football club.

thats actually a bit of a worry - if Gareth Morgan hadn't decided to step in and supposedly "save" Happy feet by offering to pay for his boat trip south maybe the govt wd have finally decided to utilise our armed forces and fly him home so he'd still be Happy Feet instead of a Happy Meal

hope he's a silent partner

Take up your discussion with AucklandPhoenix.

However I would pick GM for a right winger - definitely in the attacking third at least. He would be wasted as CDM.

Depends if he's on his motorsickle or not.

Based on the press conference today I would put Rob Morrison as the midfield playmaker.

John Morrison taking the Mulligan spot

During the press conference they mentioned about broadening the base, and making the Phoenix the pinnacle for development of players. Did they expand more on their plans on Campbell Live?

Well done Terry S.

When push came to shove over his most valued asset he stood down with grace and dignity, before some irreversible harm happened to his team

A players number should be retired to honor his reign
