They'd complain that walking on water breached the lockdown rules.

I wonder if any of Gareth's companies have applied and received the wage subsidy?

I'm very glad his politicial party ceased quickly

Think you can be assured that the biggest rorts of th system will  be by those with money. But the book will only be thrown at the little guys.

From memory Gareth has sold all his companies other than his book writing one. He may hold minority holds in others/startups etc

I wonder if this means Gareth will now make it into Patricks 5-a-side team?

well if he does retain any interest in trade me he should be glad to hear they received $4 million with the wage subsidy

end of the day, Gareth is a knob and owning part of the Phoenix doesn't make him less so. His contribution to football in NZ has been negligible so to suggest that fans owe him something is pretty short sighted.

They're owned by British private equity, pretty sure it was 100% when they delisted.

Gareth Morgan called Patrick a wanker?? Anyone got a screen dump of it? One of these two is a loose unit and it isn't Patrick.

Gareth is such an entitled old git. He seems to think that because he is loaded he can say what ever he likes to whomever he chooses. His ,messaging is so inconsistent as well.

In all seriousness does Gareth still own any part of the Nix?

I'm not Patricks mate but if an owner says that to a fan (or more in Patrick's case) he needs to head off with his money and go and fudge himself with it in tight rolls

It's better to have no club at all then have owners like that

sometimes however ones money doesn't mean you can't call them a clot or wanker

Or they should just go fudge themselves (which is the same as a wanker)

Admittedly he can do it with money or a card, if he wants to be safe with covid 19

I don't think however he is worth the 10k he talks about

Well Gareth, come your day of reckoning, please be aware, God does not accept Cash, Cheques or Credit Cards. You can't take your money with you. You get judged on good deeds done.

And going on that conversation by how both conducted themselves I'd say it was:

Patrick 1 Gareth 0

I've never been a fan of Morgan's, going back to reading his regular newspaper columns - well before helping out Ricki, deriding cats or forming political parties. To his credit though his contrary scribbling did make me think, so have an element of respect for that. Much like how now, a debate on when the NZ economy should return to a more 'normal' state is a debate worth having. No one likes to hear about what is the measured value of a single human life, so by 'bravely' delving into that area he wasn't going to make many friends.

Still to say you are ashamed of someone is pretty strong language. It's a proper insult really. Red hot Twitter poker, to the bear. Gareth got the red mist, and it only takes 2 seconds to thumb out the word wanker in a rage.

Like Blew I don't think this is a good time to be insulting Morgan in twittersphere. Even if he's a small monthly cashflow investor now, the Nix currently need every dollar they can find. The A League will survive but there is going to be many months of financial pain & stress ahead, for Welnix and the other club owners. Hopefully from April 22nd next week, things become a little clearer.

No Morgan is a Twit, sometimes standing up for what is right or a righteous principle is more important than pandering to some rich cod just because he might pull out of your football team.

100 per cent correct Napier.

Never back down to a bully boy or you become his little indulgence

Even more reason if they are also a fool and think that a human life is worth less  then a second hand car.

A bully and a fool is a dangerous combination

And he should be called wanker on this forum, from now

For someone that claims to have informed opinions it's ironic that he's never learnt that being a prick turns people off those opinions.

He went off the rails at more people than just Patrick.

On the flipside I think it's fair for him to question Patrick's moralising.

He's a provocateur, and an extremist. He's been less effective of late, but I'm aware of how bad cats are for native birds because of him. He was an early promoter of the UBI debate, pushing the ideas into public consciousness.

We haven't heard from him and Rob has become the spokesman, but Gareth's money has still funded Hooper, Davila and Taylor coming here and Sarpreet developing and moving to Bayern. He's stepped aside, but has still been working for us.

He should get more respect, IMO. His politics can be viewed at a distance from his support of the club.

The view that life can be valued is a constant of public policy choices. It's just that corona is making the choice stark.

Agree with a lot this. He's a provacateur part nutty for sure - but some of what he says makes you question the status quo, and that ain't a bad thing.

Not so sure he deserves more respect, but yes would much rather prefer that his views didn't get tangled up with the Phoenix, through Twitter spats.

It's derision.

I mean Gareth has pissed off people left right and centre, but he's putting up money for football. Not many people doing that- not Fox for one.

I mean the ownership group reportedly was losing what would be a significant chunk of lifetime earnings for some of us a year.

Don't like his politics don't vote for him. He's better than a great number of much more prominent owners in football.

only issue with that is he is no longer linked with a political party - he 'sold his business interests', so is no really just a philanthropic protagonist linked to our football team. Thankfully he's been quiet in the paper media and TV news, but by the looks of it he's been his usual controversial self on Twitter. It's only a matter of time before this shark gets linked with the Nix.

Treasury put a value of 4.7 million per person. Gareth got the 10k number because someone he knows had his medication declined from pharmac and the cost of that medication was 10k.

and that is my issue with GM, he happily takes figures from his own experiences (as we all do) and cites them as fact - the problem with that is he has a bigger profile than the average Joe complaining to his mates because he is wealthy. He and Hosking are much the same - they like to take the opposing views just to stir the pot - they claim its too encourage conversation and its a good thing, but often its more about pushing their own agendas.

If that's how it started arnt some people being a touch sensitive. Realise there may be history but come on Patricks "I'm a bit ashamed that this guy owns part of the football club I love" post pretty much was asking for a response. When that happened people get all moralistic if your offended by that type of thing then you really probably shouldn't be on social media. Storm in teacup sensitive suzies what ever you like to call it don't really see an issue. Im not a fan of his but he is putting his money into the football club I love and for that I thank him

You may not like him or the things he says or how he choses to say them if so just switch off when see him blabbing on. You could always offer tbuy his share of the club off him.

I don't think some cancer patients and many more would agree on $4.7m per person.  But have you a sauce for the highlighted?
