Like most on here I think the FFA are a bunch of tossers but do you really think they have gone out of their way to ban people just for the sake of it? I'd be very surprised if in most [if not all] cases they have reasonable grounds to impose the ban. I'm saying that they might be wrong with a couple of cases, but what would their motivation be to get it wrong on purpose? To get back on thread, the same with getting rid of us, I'm sure they are quite convinced their reasoning is right, despite it obviously being wrong. by the same token, there seem to be plenty of Ockers that agree with them [disregarding the obvious FFA mouthpieces at Fox]

In time-tested tradition of all oppressive regimes like the Holy Inquisition or he EQC  ("we make the rules round here, and it's gonna hurt, but it's for your own good") the FFA have first screwed up and then, once exposed, and there is public clamour for change, they say ".... you and what army?"

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I've gone back through the thread and read NP's posts - and the locked thread - and I'm convinced he is just trolling everyone...?

Just watched Siggy on the Paul Henry show.

No surprises at all.

One of them was a self-important, opinionated, patronising, ill-informed, judgemental, self-deluded wanker.

The other one was Siggy.

I really wanted him to knock the smirk off the gobsharke's ugly mug.

Willie Jackson wasnt exactly supportive either. Crowd attendences were the butt of most of the jokes this morning. Really positive publicity - Not!

Feel like the SaveTheNix momentum has died a bit; may be hard to get that going again. Having such a long time between home games doesn't help.

Yea.

It would have been interesting to see how the the crowd numbers did if it was a week between Wellington games.  But shark even for me it feels like that campipgn was AGES ago.

It's also on go wellington busses, the airport and go wellington both happen to be owned by infratil a big chunk of their management are partial owners of the nix. So there is a reason for that relationship.

Meanwhile, over at Story, they did a piece about Andrew Durante using a fake ID to buy a gun illegally online.

Interesting article by Michael Lynch in the SMH.  I wonder if a revamped competition would want the Nix? Could it open the door for a second NZ franchise?

"Is it time for the A-League to stand up on its own and leave the FFA?"

Should the flagship domestic competition sever its ties with the FFA and run its own affairs?

Would it be better served by having its own administration, a separate and distinct body, with its headquarters in another capital city far from Sydney, most likely Melbourne?

Could it do a better TV deal if its negotiators only had to worry about securing money and coverage for the clubs who put on the show rather than money to run a plethora of national teams and underpin grass roots football and game development?

There are many who believe that if the A-League was spun away it could herald a new start for the competition.

Didn't an independent review of some sort recommend exactly this from the a-league get-go?

Permalink Permalink
over 10 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

the Crawford report, yep. But Lowy would only come on board if things were done his way. Which was an evil they had to live with at the time - and he has done some great things as a result. But now it's time for those recommendations to be further implemented, which means some serious changes need to be made.

There is no doubt that things had to change in Australian football for the A League to take effect. Now that has happened, they need to move to the next level and have it run independently.

32 botch ups and no resignations, no sackings, nothing but embarrassing behavior.  I know Lowy and Gallop have no consciences or scruples but having made the A League administration as in the FFA a big embarrassment,  they need to be gone.

Serious question,  is the cronella riots an actual proposed team name or was it people taking the piss?

Because I'd never actually heard of the riots that happened in cronella until just now.

That list of 32 is concerning TBH. Our part in it is summed up as- they don't really offer much financially but we should keep them for stability. It's more of a concern not the attempt to ditch us, but to bring in a 3rd Sydney club. In other words, there's a fair few Aussies who don't like what the FFA has been doing, but aren't terribly convinced that we should stay.
