So, are we staking out Wellington Airport on "Gallop watch"? We can take shifts.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I get the feeling that all that talk about metrics/ongoing eligibility is just face saving talk for the FFA/Gallop, so they can say to opposers "well we did give them 10, but we made it clear that blah blah blah". I don't really believe that Morrison would sign up to a hand grenade that could just be pulled at any point without very good cause.

I agree - Welnix owners always had the option of walking away, since no amount of sentiment for the club is worth losing money short term expecting a decent financial outcome long term (10 years or more), if the regulatory regime is unpredictable. You need to be able to plan ahead with an amount of certainty that the goalposts are not going to be suddenly shifted, if you excuse the pun.

WelNix have always said that the goal is for the team to be self sufficient, I don't think they are expecting a huge payout in ten years. I have ocassional business dealings with one of the less visible owners and when suggested that the Phoenix are philanthropic he agreed. Rob Morrison said in an interview that the goal of the Phoenix is to keep assets in Wellington and try and stop the Auckland drift.

Wouldn't you say that the best way to stop the drift (long term) would be to have a separate Auckland HAL franchise, or that the opposite is true?  I know there are other variables here, but indulge me.

Rob said on the radio that they were using the Pheonix as a vehicle for other things like English Language schools, etc because everything is so Auckland centric.

I'm guessing that part of their vision is to use the Phoenix like how billionaires use F1 teams, as a vehicle to do business dealings, get together lots of business people, councillors,  etc. Watch a game in the owners lounge, have a meal and a couple of drinks, nut out multi million dollar dealings.

God, is that fudgetard still going on?!?!?  Fortunately I'm not subject to his misinformed vitriol on twitter as he blocked me a month or so ago when I made the mistake of trying to present him with a balanced view and he simply couldn't comprehend any alternatives outside of his rather myopic viewpoint.

I think it would be brave of him (or de Bohun, or Patterson) to turn up here in Wellington even if a new deal is signed.

Yup, I'm not sure he's that stupid. IF it is signed, I'm sure they'd want it done at FFA HQ so they can try and milk some good PR out of it

Has he ever actually been seen outside of Melbourne or Sydney?

He's been going on for months despite the overwhelming public opinion being against him.  His Twitter account is often a crime against intelligence.

Yeah, what News said. He's been at it for months. Been abusive, refusing to listen to or acknowledge anything that doesn't meet his anti-Nix agenda, blocking people who disagree with him. He's a complete moron and a laughing stock.

Forlorn hope perhaps but how would the club go about lobbying the FFA and/or Fox to remove this muppets accreditation?  Surely he's damaged goods at this stage?

Have you ever heard of Fred de Jong?

Regrettably yes.  Although he's a dim-witted clown and frequently has to open wider to fit his other foot in, even HE would struggle to come up with as asinine a comment as Meredith.  It's one thing to be inept and droll like Fred, its another to be actively lobbying for the removal of a club from a competition on the premise of flawed justification when one is under the employ of the official broadcaster of said competition..

Unless we put a HAL team there, it becomes wildly successful and our club gets scrapped.

As much as I dislike FDJ's work on TV, Nick Meredith is on a whole extra level.

Well, that is simple. We have found our first award for at the end of the season.

The C.O.C.K of the year award easily goes to...............Nick Meredith.

Congratulations Nick, all your efforts were not in vain, fans around the A League fully acknowledge your input with this wonderous award. Well done.

Shirley bright  has successfully won the Phoenix Media award of the year award. Her response is pretty much perfect in every sense.

Agreed, I wonder if we can make a real acknowledgement to SB once we get that licence extension.

Great article from Cockerill on the stadium issue in the HAL. This seemed like the most appropriate place to put it. Apologies if it's been posted elsewhere.

Slava does not get daily press here (although his story has been covered before in SST), so it is really positive that Cockerill decided to include it in his writeup.

It's official!

Fairfax Media understands a minimum four-year licence has been agreed upon by both parties with built-in extension clauses that could amount to a total of 10 years should the club meet high commercial targets.

What is official about that? It says "Fairfax understands.." - that's the same as last week's "Stuff understands..."

And it's the same old "fudge that, if Welnix take that they're desperate and have no self-respect" offer.

It all depends on how realistic the target parameters (or metrics, if you prefer) are, and how likely it is Welnix believe we'll achieve them.

And to complete the Fairfax  circle jerk, Stuff have now posted that SMH article. The headline says we have been granted an extension but the article is still all "sources say" etc etc.

Should complain to the Press Council that they are presenting speculation as fact

How do you know it's only speculation? They may have sources high in the FFA. As we know the FFA often have leaks.

Unconfirmed then. Headlines also have to accurately reflect the contents of the article, which I don't think this does.

They could well be right and I'm really just being a pissy bitch but I'm so sick of the generally sharkty state of our media in general and Fairfax in particular

So basically, the Phoenix can stay as long as they turn themselves into a financially unsustainable club by splashing cash on a marquee.

Top logic there FFA.

They are presenting it as fact, we know that Gallop was at the game last night - perhaps Rob was there as well.
