No way OFC would let the Nix into the OCL

And equally unlikely that they would give New Zealand their blessing to apply to move to Asian Confederation.

I have heard that NZF view the Phoenix as an NZ club that play in an Australian competition but then they have an international transfer when anyone plays for the Phoenix....... so they have to be an Australian club. Means they would not be eligible for OFC.

And that is a shame because it needs to happen if you want the game to grow. Beating the likes of Samoa or Fiji just doesnt do the game any good.

near automatic World Cup qualification is handy though. Plus rumour of expanded senior World Cup which would include automatic Oceania qualification.

Plus near automatic qualification into the club World Cup apparently keeps our national league afloat.

Regular season? Guess we'll know if those rumors are true in a matter of hours.

Correct - that is the definition adopted by the AFC. We are an Australian club domiciled in New Zealand.

This is also why we can have both New Zealand and Australian players in the club considered "local" in terms of visa requirement.

So why the fudge are we not allowed in the Asian Champions League? Australian club domiciled in NZ.

They'd have to grant our kiwi players honorary AFC-player status so we could have enough players to field a side

Sounds like politics and egos to me. Great way to encourage the growth of the game.

Well, yes. Politics. AFC has no benefit in "growing the game" in New Zealand - too small market and too few bums on seats. They are doing us a favour and we embraced the deal with both arms. My view is that by soldiering on for a few more seasons they will eventually accept we are here to stay and will continue granting us the permit on the same terms, assuming that we survive financially (that is for the owners to figure out, not AFC or us).

And yes, this topic has been done to death, but it will continue being raised as many people do not realise we are a bit "different".

Thank you to the Welnix group. From the youngest volunteer all the way up to the owners you have all done well.

Now onto next season and hopefully the security a long term licence.

To the players, coaching staff and backup crew, Thanks.

We are here to stay.

Rob Morrison went around Bethel's last night to thank each fan individually for their support. That man has class. Unlike the FFA.

nufc_nz said before the game that he had it on good authority there would be a big surprise at the game. He didn't put his balls on it though so I don't know why you would have believed him
