Huh, the more you know.

I was at the polar opposite view that it was just the group of fans, and that we are all yellow fever as we are all the group, kind of a not for profit collective, as opposed to it being a company and we all use the service they provide.\

For example. if they asked Jim, who may frequent these forums, and may have had a YF ticket for 10 years, if they could use the Pun, he may have given them permission and all parties been none the wiser they were using a seperate companies brand.

(If there is an actual Jim fitting the above description, sorry it was a coincidence)

You should of got Jim's permission first before posting this.

Generally whoever is approached messages the exec to say "I've been approached by XX to do YY. what does everyone think. We discuss it, and then almost always come to a consensus.

Ok so in that instance are you saying YF is specific members?

Not just people that consider themselves members of YF?

Or does everyone (except me) on these forums/other means know who the exec is?

Just accept it for what it is, if you dont understand what it is - just accept it for what you dont know it is.

I think the reason you are confused is the reason people are surprised that the term was used.

When they say yellow fever takes over snapper or whatever, it implies that Yellow Fever the fan group has some involvement. But if that were the case then who that is or what that is is unknown.

The "exec" are fairly well known and if they haven't heard about it, then its surprising

So people are surprised the term was used because they don't know exactly what yellow fever is? Because that's what I'm confused about.

One moment it's just the name of the collective group, the next it's a name managed by the exec.  Is the exec a synonym for who people call the YF elite? As this is legit the first page I've heard this term.

Personally when I saw the email I didn't think YF had endorsed anything, I thought they were just using a pun as a nod to the supporters group and as support to the club.

Fair enough I guess.

I can just understand where there is confusion on where and how the name of the group can be used and who the group is depending on certain situations.

there are a bunch of people who do/organise stuff (banners, website, merch, comms, commercial, charity, tours, etc). They have put their hand up to help out. That is who I'm saying is the 'exec'. In general most of the  decisions are made by them. If you look at the hui thread, there is a slide on who they are. Othertimes, we seeks thoughts/direction from others (usually hui and here on the  forums).

I figure it is that there are a bunch of people who organise some stuff, during which they contact the club (tifos for example).

As a result I guess the club develops an informal relationship with a few fans.

When the club wants to seek fan opinion, one of the ways would be to ask said fans what they think the general opinion or reaction of fans might be (there would be other ways too like going through this forum, market research etc). Said people discuss it,  form a consensus which they take back to the club.

As for the email, I was just surprised they used Yellow Fever as the Phoenix makes more sense to me to have used.

Allegedly

Drunk_Monk - This is from the 2015 Hui and talks about the "exec" from about a minute in.  Have a watch of the whole thing though, it's good.

Don't think the 2016 Hui ever made it to You Tube, but I'm pretty sure some of the roles had changed since the 2015 one.  Would encourage you to go to the 2017 Hui if you get a chance to get a better understanding of things.  I've always taken the view that the "exec" are the people who do the behind the scenes stuff which actually make the fever tick.

Thanks I'll give the Hui a watch, I've wanted to attend one for a while but life gets in the way each time.

I suppose this scenario would sum up a bit better how I'm trying to understand it:

If 100 people who sing in the yellow fever zone, read these forums regularly and contribute financially to initiatives frequented a bar before games.   If the bar asked them if he could put up a sign saying they drank there and they said yes so he out up a little sign saying "join yellow fever here before the games" or "yellow fever drinks here before the game".

My question is would the ex oppose the sign?

I.e are those feverites yellow fever? Or would the exec oppose it because the "right" yellow fever wasn't there?

Best if you PM me Drunk Monk. This is going way off topic.

I don't mind the slightly shambolic confusing status quo, because I don't think there's a way to resolve it without introducing things like formal membership etc which are contrary to the spirit of YF. Shambles 4 lyf!

I didn't either, until the initial responses in this thread to Snappers use of the brand.

I mean if the wrong person on the wrong day who does have authority over the brand name sees an innocuous attempt at support, can shark go down.

The fact that there was surprise implies at least to me that there is some structure, and if someone wanted to support the team, and did a promotion and it included puns Id be more inclined to say be weary.

I mean who were Snapper supposed to query?  If Patrick sleeps with Dales car tomorrow and as such they have a giant argument and Dale left YF, and someone asked him if they could use the YF brand, can he say yes?  can he now?  Can Patrick? etc.

If patick slept with my car, I think we'd be getting rid of him.

OMFG I have found a new topic for the next Jerry Springer Show.

Also this thread needs more shambles or it would not be a true YF thread

I've seen videos of attractive girls doing their thing with gear sticks and hand breaks and they don't end up being victimised throughout the internet.

I bet a fair bit of it will end up on my kit, based on previous experiences.

I think the sponsor makes sense, been promoting grassroots football for years and has a good chance to open it up to a wider NZ audience.

That's one sponsor that I won't be supporting - although I probably will in the middle of the night after a few too many Aro Noirs, and then immediately regret it.

They will shoot Big Macs, Fries and Ketchup at halftime instead of T-Shirts. Phoenix have some great name as sponsors and McDo with all the grass roots football fits 100% Will get the brand exposed to more fans.

A balanced diet is a big mac in each hand.

When I was in Thailand, McDs sponsored the national team. They'd have a booth outside Rajamangala Stadium for internationals, and sellers wandering up and down the aisles (like RoF's doughnut sellers) during the game. Always looked like they were making a killing.

Do we still have a pub sponsor? Last year was the Bethel Woods but I heard they weren't doing it anymore. So where are after match drinks occurring, where do the players go?

Still at Bethels.
