Actually Ali, i'd like you to explain The New Saints, a fully professional English club playing in an inferior Welsh league, when at the same time you have Cardiff City and Swansea City, fully professional Welsh clubs playing in a superior English league. Does this mean neither league is coalface? Or are both? I guarantee it will boggle your mind.

Had a look at The New Saints, seem they are an amalgamation of two clubs (13km apart), one based in Wales the other in England, however the English team did play in Wales prior to the merger in 2003. I suppose once you drop down the pyramid the level evens out between the Welsh leagues and those in England, just a smaller pond so may be better for some clubs?

Of course we could look at Derry City playing in the Republic of Ireland league. San Marino Calcio playing in the Italian league and CF Andorra playing in the Spanish league. Monaco and Vaduz are exempt as there is no Monegasque or Liechtenstein leagues that currently exist.

Three for me, and two for them.

I disagree completely.

We are actually spoilt here in New Zealand because we have the opportunity to play in another country's league (of a much higher standard) which is something other clubs around the world are dying to do but are being blocked by their national associations who know it will dilute their power.

If we are serious about developing the professional game in New Zealand then it be should be by leveraging off the existing A-League infrastructure and getting more franchises into the A-League. Not by throwing precious resources at the pipe-dream of a professional NZFC.

Auckland has already tried and failed twice at representing NZ in the Aussie league (although that's possibly being a bit harsh on the Kingz). Auckland also failed to put its hand up again in the few months immediately after the Knights debacle, even though that's basically the only place NZF and the FFA were looking.

By the way, I can almost guarantee you that the reason the people behind ACFC never put their hands up for an A-League franchise was not because of some philosophical oppostion to a NZ team playing in Australia but because they simply couldn't afford it.

My two cents: Shouldn't happen, won't happen.

Looking forward to hosting you all in Auckland when the Nix do play here next season, whenever the hell that will be.

Hi Wellred,
You are being quoted as a "typical Aucklander" who supports only when the team wins.
I suspect you are another good supporter of the Wellington Phoenix who has had his words mangled by the press and you are copping it now from some quarters, completely without foundation.
All the best mate and good on you for having the guts to front up in Phoenix gear in Akld!
Make yourself known at the Phoenix Auckland match this season.
Cheers

OK, let's be clear about this... THE DOMINION POST IS A F*CKING JOKE.

All day it was kind of bothering me that I'd actually seen that photo of the two Auckland fans before and I was right. Although it was published today under the "Auckland wants the Wellington Phoenix" headline (making it seem as though the two fans were celebrating or supporting the idea) it was actually first published in March 2010 in a story about the play-offs.

So not only does one of these guys claim he's been mis-quoted, they didn't even pose for that picture (well they did, but for a completely different reason).

Add to that the fact that Van Hattum says the story is "rumour-mongering bullsh*t" and Giltrap denies it completely. So what are we left with? John Morrison and his "sources" that he won't disclose. Jesus wept, is this what qualifies as journalism these days?

Hey Burgess, not only is Tupac Shakur alive and living in New Zealand, but he is the mystery donor of the $4m to pay Terry's taxes. Write it up for tomorrow will you? No need to check any facts, I just said it so it must be true.

What crossed my mind was that it's a Morrison have.

He's realised he's gone badly off target with the 'WellyWood' issue with a general demeanour suggesting that Wellington don't know what is best for them so in a desperate ploy he's launched in to this to try and give the impression that's he's fighting for 'us'.

An even bigger joke is that Dave Burgess recently won a Canon Media Award (with Phil Kitchen) for Best Business Story on, wait for it... "their investigation into property developer Terry Serepisos' cash crisis, owing $2million in council rates and his battles with Inland Revenue and ACC".

In Ali's defence I don't know if he is an ex-Bloc 5er/Kingz or Knights fan.

I suspect more likely he's younger than that and just ill-informed and unaware of the history but I could be wrong.

IMO it would be a tragic day if the Nix were moved from Wellie. The Nixs in a very short space of time have established a brand and general acceptance in Wellie .... not easy in fact vey hard On Business lines you do not do this ever

HHHHHHMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm the media what can you say everyone  is saying BS meaning the story is either totally made up ( I doubt this ) or comes from statements by inexperienced NZF officials, talking about something in actual terms they dont know but want to appear to the media they are kinda important people

As I see it someone needs to have a chat to NZF and see how the story ever got to this point

The point seems to be, if the Phoenix fails, NZF will work with whoever comes forward, including parties outside Wellington. Which makes sense, from their point of view.

Well I don't know about this all, but there's the old saying about smoke and fire.
There's obviously been at least some discussion about this at NZF, and often these kind of things are leaked to media for a reason i.e. to gauge public reaction / sentiment. Hopefully the outrage and disgust by all and sundry will convince NZF not to take it further. I certainly hope so.

It's not NZF's licence to move which is why I have a doubt that any of this came out of NZ Football.  Plus if they wanted to gauge reaction then doing it when just about all the key players are out of NZ seems odd timing.

As I've said,it's entirely possible that it was discussed as one of many possible contingency plans. If Terry has to give the license up,and there was no other alternative, then here is the plan.

That doesn't mean they're going to do it. It's just sensible to plan for all possibilities.

So it probably isn't completely made up,rather it is probably being made out to be something that it's not,by taking snippets of information and quotes and mashing them together to make a shocking story on a slow day.

Something the doom post are good at,especially with Phoenix related stories of late.

Quite. If there are no alternative for the nix in Wellington, did anyone expect NZF to say "oh well, that's a bit sad" and walk away?

of course they will seek alternatives around NZ.
