There has been much speculation in recent weeks about whether the club will remain at the Cake Tin or move to a smaller venue and the team's run of poor results has added extra pressure"

I know, this cracked me up, what a bunch of Muppets!

That's just a disgrace from them.  The only speculation was from them and was shotdown as grossly inaccurate.  The trouble is most of New Zealand don't know this as they now pump out fiction despite it clearly not happening.

Fucking disgrace.

Wow Carlos' career has really gone downhill hasn't it? Kinda feel for him!!!

Anyway, I'm very happy - kinda wish we've had a talented AMF this season - I think if we'd been able to play someone like Carlos behind Brokie/Waffles, our season would NOT be what it is now!

I was hoping Garteh Morgan might have come onto this forum and leaked the information to us last night but then I remembered that he is highly unlikely to let a cat out of a bag!

Any Morrissey reference is alright with me. Nice  :-)

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I wonder what kind of condition he is in. Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand he was a very good player, on the other we already lack a bit of pace and this is only going to make it worse. I hope he wasn't signed blind and that Ricki has actually watched some games from this season.

You're joking, right ?

He has never relied on being in good condition. He needs fast players to thread through balls to - think Boyd and Fenton could profit the most from his signing. I don't see where Brockie fits. Stein might be able to do a job but would prefer a pack striker.

You sir, must be rather difficult to please.

P.S. ADP must be the slowest player in world football these days, but is being fapped over all around Australia, and currently top of the Alex Tobin...

He must suck. Ricki signed him. Sack Ricki.

I'm not actually. I'm not quite sure why everyone is absolutely convinced this is a great signing without having seen him play this season. I guess we will only see for sure next season but I do have a nagging feeling about this. Del Piero has just a little bit more pedigree than Hernandez yet I recall several people (not me) suggesting it wasn't a good signing before he got here.

I have no doubt he will be good for us - not sure how we will support Ifill and Hernandez in the same team, however; neither can defend or track back properly.

Watched Carlos live many, many times - still the classiest player I've seen in the A-League. Was never fit or in good condition but still ran out games better than Flores, too.

cautiously optimistic about this. Very worried about age and fitness though.

Was always unfit at the Victory and never really seemed to get injured too often - age is definitely a worry, though.

Age is no problem - he'll be 31 in April ffs. He's got at least 2 years left in him if not more.

As for fitness, well, we get him as fit as we can but it's never really stopped him doing damage in the past.

We could have 8 out of 11 players in their 30s next season

I still think this announcement will be un-related to a new signing. Anyone heard the news?

Perth in disguise.

On the proviso that he comes with a committed work ethic then I think this is a very good signing. He gives us a significant lift in mid-field skill and clearly reflects the owners intent to raise the quality of our game.

I like the two year contract term - it reconfirms, if reconfirmation was needed, that the owners are committed to the club and their plan for the club.

I think Waffles will have a much better opportunity to show his capabilities with the improved service he'll get and younger players like Boyd and Fenton will thrive alongside a player of Hernandez's quality.

Ironically, given our history, that the front half of the park is looking very solid and the back half (FBs and DMs) is where we now look shaky.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

The A-League match with the highest average ago of the players on the field was our 1-0 loss in the rain to Perth at Westpac last season.

Posted this in the wrong thread.

The Cernak question is an interesting one. I think we sign him as a back up CAM or use him wider. He's shown that he's probably better than Smith, Sanchez and at the moment he's better than Fenton, plus he's an Aussie. But the Hernandez signing might make his decision an easier one if Perth can gaurantee him a starting spot.

Looking at our squad for next year, if you throw in two decent defensive midfielders and one decent fullback and we are already so much better. The fact that Fenton and Boyd will be a year older and hopefully a year better is also good. Maybe the same will happen with Boxall and Hogg.

Now get Van Den Brink. Thought he was good as a DM for Gold Coast - an able CB too but didn't see the world on fire at Perth. Manny, VDB with Hernandez in front..

Get rid of Sanchez and Smith.
