seriously tho, its Basalaj is the clear choice for no.2 by miiiiiiles.  He's a star - right now.  (evenly grudgingly championed by bitter Petone rivals....)

You must be SO proud.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

If we are looking for a back up keeper, we really should give him a trial. He had a good Olympics, got called up for the OFC nations Cup but didn't get picked up in the MLS draft.

Whose the top dog out of those second string guys behind Moss and Paston.  I always assumed it was Gleeson - is this still the case?  If he's able to deputise for Moss then maybe Paston's role isn't so secure

Normo's coming home

Isnt okeefe at fairfield for another year

I thought he said on the YF Podcast that he's finished now?

I'd even go for Jake Gleeson because he's just sitting on the bench at the Timbers. But if he isn't keen to move then O'Keefe or even our German pub football playing Stefan Marinovic could be a goer.

Just give it to Basalaj. He's already at the phoenix and is good enough

You're the coach, mate.

Sitting on the bench won't help him develop. Playing in the ASB Premiership is better than "opposed trainings".

Its an opinion Luis... so jog on. Then he'll go overseas somewhere and do the exactly the same thing. sit on the bench. sooo why not???

Overseas he could still play reserves/youth games. This is where having no NYL hurts. Signing the young talent and being unable to play them in meaningful games stifles their development.

That is why I'm pleased Boyd is getting so much game time. I thought he was going to be out training on Newtown Park for a few years, without playing proper games. Basalaj isn't better than Moss, so wouldn't get a chance to play unless he got hurt. And then Ricki would probably sign a more experienced Keeper as cover.

I ask what's the point in that though. If he goes in knowing that even with injury, he is going to be superseded by an injury cover keeper then it's better he is playing somewhere else and getting development through playing rather than pine riding.

Grumpy old bastard alert

cant we loan basalaj out to other clubs?

I LOVE LAMP

^ That would entail signing him first - which effectively means we would have 3 keepers on our roster - one of them being loaned out.

I'd sign Scott up - you never know, I think he would be able to play 3-4 games next season, if Mossy gets sent off or injured or just has a very poor run of form.

Gleeson is being lined up as Portlands long term option at keeper, so it wouldn't be a great decision to leave now.

Yeah loaning him out to Australian state leagues. Its still a good level. Most of the better teams in the Leagues beat A-league teams all the time
