Now get Van Den Brink. Thought he was good as a DM for Gold Coast - an able CB too but didn't see the world on fire at Perth. Manny, VDB with Hernandez in front..

Get rid of Sanchez and Smith.

Give it a rest you're like a broken record I'm tired of hearing it.  Phoenix MOM in several games this season, maybe not a great accomplishment, but surely not deserving of your constant slagging off.  More later.

Sorry Mr Smith but he hasn't been good enough - to be fair, the whole team hasn't. If he was an Aussie i wouldn't have an issue with him taking up a squad place but the fact is as an 'import' he has to be held to higher standards. We've had a history of not using our import spots wisely and this is just an extension of that.

He doesn't bring anything to the team, in my opinion - maybe that's because we've played him out of position at DM most of the time and he came here as an attacking player, I don't know, but he seems to be out of favour with Ricki now too.

Well pleased with that maybe there could be some optimism at who else we may sign.If we can get some more of this quality the off season could actually be a bit of fun.

Just wiki'd Valderrama (Carlos you see) and it has this:
Playing Style

Valderrama was an elegant player on the ball, in the most unconventional way possible. Always was a slow player, but was blessed with electric, lightweight, feet, which compensated for the lack of pace. A two-footed player, with no obvious inclination towards the right or left foot. Standing at 5'9 he was of average height, but for a 5'9 player he was particularly wide, which from certain camera angles made him look even shorter than 5'9. The noticeable and characteristic width to his physical build, was perhaps a crucial factor, that could perhaps explain why Valderrama had such an unique ability. It's difficult to explain in words without necessarily drifting into a subjective persuasive argument, but Valderrama's ability of consistently holding the ball even when two to three opponents tried to take the ball away from him, was indeed described as "mesmeric" many times, particularly by English commentators who were not used to watching such an unusual player. As deterministic as it might sound, maybe a crucial factor as to why Valderrama could consistently hold the ball when it seemed impossible to do so, was due to the extraordinary width of his physique, which allowed him extra room of movement, when moving the ball from one foot to the other.

I just liked the florid description that since he was so fat, players couldn't get the ball off him.

stoked with this signing. 2 thumbs up to Welnix and Ricki!

I'm sure we wouldn't have been the only A League club interested in him

Hopefully our defenders don't just hoof long balls over his head to whoever's striking for us next season though :P

He looks fit ;) Hope he keeps the pounds off knowing he is coming back to the A-League where he knows he can be bigger and still be a monster to defend against

Age is no problem - he'll be 31 in April ffs. He's got at least 2 years left in him if not more.

As for fitness, well, we get him as fit as we can but it's never really stopped him doing damage in the past.

Agreed. Hibs signed Franck Sauzee (of French international and Marseille fame) at age 34 and he stayed for over 2 years and still is the best player I've probably ever watched in the flesh, certainly when it was on a weekly basis. 31 is not that old, and I say that as a 31 year old!!

There's no way we can move to a smaller stadium now

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

The only venue that's potentially big enough would be the Basin, but this has been discussed before - and it won't happen. Besides, I hear the Basin is an awful venue where to watch football - truth is, we need a smaller (15-20K capacity), SQUARE, purpose built stadium for football only - and in the current financial market it ain't gonna happen.

Yes, what I'm worried about now is how we are going to increase capacity at the RoF.

The best way to increase capacity at the ROF is institute a policy that no-one over 65kg is allowed entry. That will get at least 45,000 people in, sadly including no-one on this forum.

Players coming off contract are allowed to be approached by other clubs, if they sign for other clubs those clubs could make an announcement before seasons end.

that makes sense, anything else ie announcements of sackings surely would be left until after the season is done?
