Im not talking about this year mate, but his whole career

I count 7 games for Tony across 6 seasons.....

Edit: I stand corrected

07/08 18/21

08/09 21/21

09/10 27/27

10/11 16/30

11/12 25/27

Other than 1 season, I would not call that injury prone....

How many games has he missed injured this season? Just asking as he's injury prone.

He has had a terrible injury record over his career - injury prone is definitely a fair comment.  Other than this year he's had a major injury every year at the club

We are talking about him at the Phoenix JD...

Ok I'll bite.
Lets get rid of him. Who were you advocating replacing him since you seem to have the answers?

(And no, I was proving to you that he is not injury prone)

He is Injury prone. With age hes only going to get worse mate. spoonley or basalaj?

Actually I will recant all my posts. I was of the opinion we were talking about Lochhead but it seems we are talking about Paston so I need to give myself an uppercut and butt out.

All good mate.. we could always start talking about Lochhead if you want haha

On Lochhead - I genuinely wouldn't mind keeping him if I didn't suspect that he was on an awful lot of cash...

if we dropped Lochhead's wages we could keep him, provided we could get someone better that he could be a reserve for. but then if you kept Hog who is young and can develop and get someone better then it's a win win. On Paston I hope he retires and goes out with a little bit of style and not get dumped.

Spoonley can't even get a start with Auckland City. Ship, sailed.

Agree. Hogg must be a lot cheaper, and with Hernandez coming into the salary cap we need to free up as much space as we can to sign other players.

Started yesterday. To be fair, on Spooners one game, he got A League keeper of the week. Talk about penthouse to outhouse in 1 month.

I thought he looked good against MH ?

Put it this way Spoonley >>>>>>>>>>>>> Basalaj

Basalaj played in ofc qualifiers right ?

Then I agree.

Basalaj has been fantastic as the season has rolled on for Team Wellington so I disagree that Spoonley is better and he didn't play in the OFC quealifiers.  Based on the last month's form I'd have no issues with Basalaj as a back-up to Mossy if he proves he's still an A-League quality keeper.

The TV games there wasn't a signle player who looked better than Nighthawks standard, the whole side looks about 100x better since then.

Wouldn't it be better for Basalaj development to stay in the ASB Premiership a little longer? Not sure sitting on the bench, only playing "opposed trainings" would be good for the kid. If Moss was #1 next season and got hurt, Ricki would probably go grab Reddy from the State leagues instead of playing him anyway.

Without sounding like a cause but if we are looking for a cheap back up, what about O'Keefe? He has finished College, and didn't get drafted.

the problem with having a young kid on the bench and not a "decent" #2 option is what the hell do you do when/if your #1 keeper picks up an injury?

It's worked out okay for most other A-League sides.  Those back-up youngsters push the first choice out quite often.  Think Langerak, Ryan, Birighitti, Velaphi (I know).

Janjetovic as well, not exactly an injury replacement but he ousted Necevski as their number one keeper.

And what's the young kiwi going to do? Better off getting game time elsewhere than waste a season on the bench. Besides if there was an injury, I'd prefer Paston over Basalaj

I agree with this. And that's no disrespect to Scott Basalaj, who is fantastic. He needs to be playing somewhere. Experience can't be gained from the bench.

I think if Ricki is still around Paston will be on the team somewhere. In a World Cup year (which next season will roll into) anyone pretending to be an All White will have to be on a pro team somewhere. Ricki won't leave Paston out in the cold after years of good service.

Even as #2 at the Phoenix that will be enough to earn him an All Whites spot if they qualify for Brazil.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

sweet problem solved, get rid of Paston, ie let him retire and get one onf Basalaj or Spoonley on the books.

Whats your thoughts on Borren from YHM.. Think he could do a good job?? i heard he was world class against the Phoenix A

Permalink Permalink

My big concern is what`s going to happen to the "12 Pubs of Lochead" if we don`t re-sign Tony for next season ??

Could always do the "12 Fast-Foods of Hernandez" but it just wouldn`t be the same !!!
