Agree that Brockie is now a useful player- he's improved his game and become a much better player in recent years.
Previously he had many flaws such as being a very poor finisher (Leo Bertos level).
The impression was unfortunately created that Brockie was a capable goal-scorer and an out-and-out striker due to his fluke two goals on debut for the NZ Knights in the A-League and a couple in games after. This gave a false impression because previously he had proved one of the worst finishers ever of all strikers in any Christchurch national league side in history.
Nelson team-mate Michael White turned out to be a more effective all-round player and goal-scorer for Canterbury Utd.
Brockie's senior club record and goals:

YearsTeamApps(Gls)2003Nelson Suburbs24(12)20042005Canterbury United15(0)20052006New Zealand Knights12(4)2006Canterbury United6(2)20062007Sydney FC7(0)20072008Hawke's Bay United15(3)2008Team Wellington1(0)20092010North Queensland Fury14(1)2010Newcastle Jets35(11)

Note that he scored 0 goals in his debut season for Canterbury Utd in 15 games- despite often being used as an out-and-out striker (2 goals in 21 games in his Canterbury career). I well remember sitting with my mates and cringing at the open goals and many sitters he missed: "Oh no! Don't give it to Brockie!"
Seasoned obervers also noted he couldn't dribble and beat players- he'd just boot the ball up the sideline and chase it.
We found it incredible when he scored for the Knights in the A-League- however Sydney FC soon found this goal form was an aberration when they signed what they thought was a capable goal-scorer, only for Brockie to return to his previous mediocre level in this respect.
They had a raw talent- but not good enough for the A-League yet.
Before this season, Brockie had only scored one goal in his time at North Queensland Fury and twice for Newcastle last season, so his nine goals so far this season and greatly improved play are very positive.
However, Ricki Herbert has always preferred Leo Bertos for the Nix (and the All Whites), and as long as he does so, the chances of Brockie coming to the Nix remain slim.

Not sure if Brockie's form in 2004-5 is now relevant? How old was he then?

He has been doing very well for the Jest this season, would love to see him come here on current form.

Would love to see Glen Moss back as well. Where else is he going to fit in the HAL? Cannot see him pushing out any of Vukovic, Galekovic, Covic, Ryan or Theoklitos. I read somewhere Bolton is retiring (?), which leaves MH, Sydney, West Sydney if it happens, or Newcastle I guess.

Jets signed Birighitti and re-signed Kennedy. Only teams that don't have #1 keepers signed for next season are Heart, GCU and us.

What is Reddy's situation at Bling? Out of favour or injured? Contracted next year? Would have him back in a heartbeat!

Reddy is doing his normal. Starts the season well then plays like a dog and gets dropped.Happened at Brisbane.
Has been dropped. Played well for us, but I would not have him if you paid me. He is just not good enough.

Really??? Maybe Ricki managed to get the goods from him as he was fantastic in what he did in his stint for us

Totally agree, I am more concerned about us getting a decent keeper next season as number 1 or to push Paston. Not so about getting good wide midfielders or wingers as they are easier to come by.
Only concern is does Moss want to come back as No. 2? i think Paston might still be RH's no.1 by default...so Moss might not want to come if elsewhere can offer more starting opportunity...Love to see him here though
Moss was no. 1 previously, and for the AWs before his suspension so I don't think Paston would be first choice keeper. Plus Moss is better than Paston. Personally I would worry about having 2 injury prone keepers at the club though. Bring in Basalaj instead!

Plus since Moss' departure, Ricki brought in Reddy, Vukovic and McMaster in (not including Crowther and Warner who came to be the second keeper in the squad), with both Reddy and Vuko getting the starting job. Not exactly something Ricki would have done if he rated Paston very highly.

You could hardly say that Paston's been Ricki's unquestionable number 1 over his years here.

Unless he goes overseas I see us as the best option for Glen Moss.

If he's thinking of going overseas someone needs to say 'Romania' to him.

He'll stay.

Reddy and Paston were never available at the same time as Pasty was injuried.

As for Vuka, when they were both available, Pasty played the majority of games.

Oh yeah, forgot Paston was perpetually crook through the latter half of the season the past few years.

Still, I don't think Ricki really rates him that much.

I think if that was the case he would not have played all three games at the World Cup. IIRC Moss was only suspended for the first?

First two games.

Would be pretty tough to drop Pasty after a decent game against Italy.

True I agree but just dont think that it is fair to say that Ricki does not rate him!

Scott Basalaj move from TW to Nix?
Rangers are in the sh*t big time at the moment.

I would imagine that his move to Rangers would be free and with Rangers under administration, like Portsmouth, they probably won't be able to buy players and they will probably want to reduce the wage bill and sell off players to increase revenue, so why wouldn't Rangers want Scott?

Maybe Rangers do want Scott. How much longer is Rangers going to be around?

Moss had an offer to go to the Championship earlier this year and turned it down. Felt it was better for him at this stage to stay number one and play than be one of three first team keepers and potentially not playing.

Unless he's changed his mind on this, i'd expect him to stay in the A - League. Would like to see him not come back, and bring in Baslaj... means another young kiwi getting an opportunity, whilst ensuring our top two keepers, Paton and Moss both play.

The financial turmoil surrounding Glasgow has had a flow on effect to New Zealand.

New Zealand age-group goal keeper Scott Basalaj was due to have another trial with the Scottish Premier League champions.

But with Rangers now in administration, Basalaj's immediate future with the club is on hold.

He says it wasn't what he was expecting but now he has to just keep working hard and hope something else pops up.

Scott Basalaj says he's had great feedback from the club but at this stage Rangers are not signing any new players.

I find it hard to believe that moss would turn down an offer from the championship at this stage in his career

Haha, just wondering that's all.

How long is David Williams contracted to the Heart for? He seems a bit out of favour.

Expires end of 2013/14 & he is horrible.

Saying Williams is 'horrible' is a bit far - if he got a run of games together he'd be more than a decent player in this league. Certainly better than us sticking Downey on the wing anyway.

Watched the Roar v Glory last night - another very impressive performance by the Roar - without Broich !! The two goals for which Berisha and Henrique combined were pure class.

The standard for imports has been set very high by Ange P - Berisha, Broich, Henrique and Adnan.

That's the standard I would love to see us aspire to when considering how to fill our 3 remaining import spots for next season - Ifill , of course, fills the 4th.

got to be focusing on imports and then aussies to plug the gaps depending on whos kicking around. no AWs out there except maybe brockie who may cost a bit. After that any young kiwis wud be a bonus.

These are the Aussie's currently overseas:

Sadly it doesn't include contract lengths, but those that I would be interested in are ones that just left recently. I know Grella is off contract, but we don't need an injury prone player on big money.

Looking at this season makes me realize how much we need the Academy set up yesterday. We have an aging squad, and its unlikely we can lure the better players from other clubs. If we want replacements who are better than what we have, we need to develop them ourselves, rather than hope to stumble onto talent missed by other team's youth set ups.

This is also why we need to set the bar high for who we sign as imports. Being restricted to Aussies & Kiwis, the import slots are the best way to improve the squad in the short term.

...or a detestable clogging w**ker (Grella). Suspect that after Melbourne 2010 he wouldn't last one training.

Definitely. The academy is a big loss, we need the boys to step up time and time again until we can get something in place. However the A-league shows that if u can get the right import slot and support them with a hard working domestic slot you can really pack a punch. Ricki has to be looking at the english game as greenie and iffil have really shown the quality you can sign.
