Totally, Daniel and Sanchez link up well, but they haven't played together the last two games... and we still won those games. I'm not sure what that says??

We won those by scoring once instead of 4 or 5. But It does seem to be true that Daniel plays much better at home.

Actually Daniel got the assist against GC, and Sanchez looked pretty good in the first half of both those games.

Sanchez and Ifill seemed to run into a lot of the same space the first time they started together, which seemed to reduce the effectiveness of both of them. However last night showed they are both starting to sort it out and I think once they get another game or two playing together, they will be an unstoppable force.

Yeah although we have won, I think Lochhead and Sanhez look better when Daniel is on the field.

Interesting Sanhez was quoted in the DomPost I think? as saying even he looks Daniel makes him look a better player.

2012/13

This link is pretty good for contracts, they need to update Manny being re-signed. Also Redmayne and Birighitti changing teams next season.

Thanks for that - what makes Sergio a Marquee player? The fact that he demands a huge salary and therefore is unaffordable to the Nix?

Permalink Permalink

I don't think there is a set criteria for a Marquee. In van Dijk's case, he is the 3rd highest goal scorer in A-League history, so I'm sure that helps.

He is also looking at playing for Indonesia, so could be an AFC player by the time his contract is up. That will probably bring big money offers from China when his contract finishes.

Damn. Even before I knew much about the A-League beyond taking an interest in the Phoenix All Whites, I had always considered him likely in front of goal. Just seems to have a knack!

Me too actually, I've been a fan ever since I saw him score a screamer of a goal for Brisbane a few years ago back when they were pants. Would be a fantastic signing, but unlikely unfortunately.

I think it says more for Daniel not starting with Sanchez to create that combination than it does of Sanchez's form.

Looking through the off contract A-League players, there are 4 RB's available: Pedj Bojic, Michael Marrone, Tarek Elrich and Scott Neville.

Would any of them be good enough to replace Manny at RB, so he could move back into DM? Or is there 'the next Ben SigmUnd' in the NZFC, who happens to be a RB?

Bojic and Marrone definetly but very unlikely to come here. Unless CCM is in the sh*tter. Could swipe Bojic and Mcglinchey off them. 11 assists between them so far...

Bojic and Marrone would be great replacements for Manny as RB. The former usually plays at RB and despite being a c**t is in red hot form. The latter plays as RB usually so there wouldn't be a problem there

However Bojic is a starter for the top team in the league and Marrone has had interest from overseas, incl. Cagliari in the Italian Serie A, so I doubt either of the two would want to move to Welly

Edit: Bojic is a LB not RBnewzealandpower2012-01-22 13:50:51

CCM only offered Bojic a new 1 year contract, what he turned down.

Bojic will be leaving CCM but will probably end up at the Heart or something.

Edit: Bojic is a LB not RB

No, Josh Rose has been playing left back for the mariners.valeo2012-01-22 15:48:54

Tarek wouldnt be a bad signing, plenty of A-League experience, part of a championship winning team and has played with Durante before.

...only downside is the pie vendors might get their hopes up a bit much, don't think he'll be as prolific as his brother on that front...

Tarek Elrich has been playing terrible, although he was okay against us. All the Newcastle fans can't stand him.

Terribly.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Tarek was promising around about the time Ahmad was with us...but that was a long time ago and he has never really progressed.

Definitely not Elrich.

Bojic would be good if he wanted to move.

Bojic can be a bit of a munter though. 'Chop first, tackle later' type character.

Sort of in the Siggy / Lia / Brown / Manny mould then??

Exactly!! I didn't really want to say that though. Adding him would make us similar to the Pre-Ange Roar side under Frankie F. Those guys were a bunch of thugs. Jeff Vader2012-01-23 12:54:01

Bojic would be a great signing. He's a lot better than Lochhead that's for sure. Fast, aggressive and a decent cross. Don't think he would join us, he's looking at the MLS I think. Would love to have him though.

There is no way you would play him on the left but it would allow Manny to move back into the middle. I used to think he was a touch limited but he is probably the second best right back in the league this season, so wouldn't say no. He is also one of the most improved players over the last couple of seasons. rjmiller2012-01-23 13:53:30

Yeah I watched him against ACFC and thought he was quite effective. I don't know where people get the idea he is a LB because he is a RB. Would he leave a consistently well performed side, his home country to come play for us when he is rumoured to be looking overseas? Unlikely.
He would need to exercise a little more discipline than previous. To be fair most of our usual suspects have improved in that respects. Dura is the only one close to getting pinged for a suspension.

We have always been like that, though - ever since the first season with Johnson and Aloisi. Wouldn't say we're 'thugs' but we definitely hack a bit

I would not be against trying Smith at RB, or looking at an import for RB, always been an issue for us. Otherwise, time to bring in a promising young kiwi lad to learn.

Just putting this out there, victory's new youth signing is another attacking player, he's not in the same position as Rojas but surely hes still his competition for a spot and looks like hed be alright, so possibly makes the chances of re-signing Marco a little higher?

That Julius Davies? Has he actually signed?

edit : sounds like close to signing rather than having signed.

It's a complex situation Melbourne are in, to sign anyone they will probably have to ditch other players. They almost certainly wouldn't just bring in just another attacking player, their problems are more in the central midfield. I'm not completely convinced about that article either, the only quotes comes from his manager.

Brockie is potentially a lame duck because he comes up at the end of the season and the import spots reduce by one. Incidentally he's not an import to us but I did read he is trying to get his AU ticket clipped which gives him a bit more value.

Rojas is lucky to be on a two year gig. Again reduced import slots and not playing, he is certainly on the endangered list once his deal comes up assuming the new coach doesn't use him (does anyone really give Irish Jim a chance for next year, seriously?)

If the board have balls they will sign him for next season to cut all the dead wood in the Victory squad.

Durakovic would have them finished near last and still be making excuses why they lose, at least with Magilton he has fighting words.

And yes lets do whatever to nab Rojas back, all is forgiven.................

I know, just can't see him staying, whether it be Magilton or not the club will not be happy with a foreign spot getting bugger all game time.

They seem to be quick to loan under performing foreigners out
