yip so there goes that link. Are we happy with Lia, Manny, Lindsay & Sanchez as our midfield options? Or do we need another guy like Smith in there?

Realistically, if we are going to play a midfield 3 with Manny, Lia & Sanchez/upgrade, then we are going to need another guy to cover Sanchez for when he gets injured - a young attacking mid would work.

If we are going to play 3 man midfield, then we are going to need 5 midfielders.
If we are going to play 2 man midfield, then we are going to need 4 midfielders.

And if we are going to play 2 strikers, then its more likely we should play 2 holding midfielders and two wide men, and for me, that doesnt involve Sanchez. Buts thats my personal opinion.

From my angle he did manage to get a bit of swing on the ball

Aren`t they allowed to tackle in Malaysian football ??

Why bother tackling when your opposition just kicks it out for a goal kick?

Time to reopen the Clapham for Nix debate?

Did not seem out of place yesterday playing in Defensive Mid role.

This was spotted by a poster on the Sydney FC boards

The Mounties will be missing further players now, with the news that Cole Peverley has played his last game for the Mounties, having signed with Wellington Phoenix in the A-League, a move designed to improve his New Zealand international chances.

On a Player v Player level probably agree regarding Smith, but  not so sure when you take into account his Import Status.

Is Clapham better than Mulligan?

Is Mulligan's AW career done? What's going on there? Is one of the better passers of the ball and can hit a cracker from distance every now and then...

Good Spotting

Don`t think it would be adding to the squad in any great way

Could just be freeing up extra cash for our import spots ??

Where would Peverly play? In that holding midfielder role or can he be more creative than that?

I'm glad we are seeking out kiwis to sign but we shouldn't sign unnecessarily. We have Lia and Lindsay in the mids atm if smith re-signs that pushes Lindsay and Peverly some way out of consideration. If we don't sign smith we still need a player as good or better so that still stands. I feel we need more depth on the wings, Ward and Daniel replacements and I haven't heard or seen anything that has us bolstering those stocks at the moment.

If Peverly signs does that end the Clapham for Nix debate as quickly as it started?

That's interesting. Doesn't seem to be anything else about it anywhere on the internet (although that was only posted yesterday).

Is it true?

If true it does beg the question of how Clapham gets an All Whites call-up when Peverley doesn't. Different types of player maybe, but that different?

I have doubts.  He's playing 2nd division in NSW spent periods on the bench for Canterbury and couldn't make an AWs side ahead of Adam McGeorge.

I'd be disappointed if he is considered the solution to the hole left by Brown.  I'd rather see Lindsay get regular starts.

Could it be one of the academy players? I seem to remember them saying slightly older players would be considered. For the squad of 23 it would be a weird signing.

Wouldn't be completly out of place for me, and would be a better fit than Clapham I'd say. Although I havnt seen him play for years.

I thought Clapham had quite a few stray passes in that game, and didn't really offer much in terms of defence. Although the surface and unfamilar surface may have played its part.

Is it Ricki doing one of his boys a favour? Trying to kick off his career kind of thing?

Fuck this stupid game

Good. We need better and I'm sure we'll find them.

Could he be moving to Team Wellington?

Has played for TeeDubs before but that wouldn't explain why he'd need to be back here (leaving the Mounties) now.

TeeDubs would be a way off recruiting I would have thought.

Dirty re-signed. Good to hear ricki does identify he played him in the wrong position last year

Players confirmed on the roster for the 2012-13 season are: Mark Paston, Glen Moss, Manny Muscat, Ben Sigmund, Andrew Durante, Tony Lochhead, Leo Bertos, Paul Ifill, Jeremy Brockie, Mirjan Pavlovic, Cameron Lindsay, Vince Lia, Jimmy Downey, Dani Sanchez, Lucas Pantelis.

Imports: 2/5

U-21's: 1/3

Another solid squad building there, need to take it up a level from solid however with a few key import signings hopefully.

Thank fuck that he will be played where he ought to be this season.

Glad to have him on board.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

I think Pantellis coming back into the squad will mean Sanchez gets to move back into central midfield. Anyway, this discussion should be on the Official Re-signings thread.

So if we have Sanchez what are our options when he gets injured? Nil?

Where are we going to find a player to fill his boots if he gets out? Could Ifill do it?

Or would we just change formation to compensate?

Funny regarding the Cole Peverley rumour. He was pretty average for Canterbury United and that would definitely come out of left field.

This is a tad concerning.  Implies we retain Greenie and don't look elsewhere, or bin Greenie and find another striker.

It does sort of echo what has been said from Day one of Welnix though, ie working within Salary Cap, no Marquees etc

Permalink Permalink
almost 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

This completely pisses me off to be frank.

I'm fine with them saying they arent going to splash the cash - and that means marquees or big names.

But saying we wont fill our import spots just seems stupid as they aren't neccessarily going to be on marquee wages, although as they would be expected to be our best players, we could expect them to be on the higher wages.

I will not be happy if we do not find anymore imports this year. We are not going to win anything if we sign an aussie striker and rightback
