Obviously hasn't spoken to Mrs. Smeltz... mind you, she is from Townsville.

The shopping in Townsville...

And in Wgtn:

Lower Hutt.  Which has historically been part of Wgtn - we claim it as ours when convenient.

(It's a small suburb near Ngaio)

Brockie?  He'll be in Honiara on the 4th June (sems reasonable to asume he'll make the squad).

One thing that would have made signing sweeter would have been a double deal where someone swooped and offered big bucks to take Pav of our hands.

Good signing.

Happy - interested where he sees himself playing for the nix

and where ricki sees him playing

wide or striker?

Pretty happy with that. Was there any indication on what position he is best seen as? For NZ he is sort of blocked by Killen, Smeltz and Wood but I think he would fit here better as a striker than a wide player. Still reasonably quick, quite tall and last season he proved he could finish. I would prefer an expensive midfielder as an import rather than the striker they seem to be making noise over.

This seems to be a good signing, he had some great strikes last year so can get the ball in the back of the net if required. It was noted that he tended to go up and down a bit, so hopefully Ricki can work his magic and have him firing on all cylinders the whole season. Good to see things happening!

Really good to see how concentrated the new owners are in using Kiwi talent to fill our team and their first two signings are obvious testament to that.

Yay stuff happening!!!! Good news, I was beginning to think we might not get him.

I see him playing as a utility right wing or striker, probably often off the bench. Depends if we go with 1 or 2 central striker.

Provide a bit of competition for Leo at right wing, some quality in case of injuries and will distance Pav from bench.

Decent signing. Provides an option in wide areas or up front.

First thought,

I am wondering whether Herbet may use and mould Brockie into a replacement for Brown...

Madness. Clearly Ricki wants to turn him into a sweeper!

In all seriousness though, Brockie had a great season last year. I hope he is allowed time at striker.  It shouldn't be too difficult as he is only competing with Greenacre (possibly retiring) and Pav (say no more).

And Iffil. And the ongoing rumours about getting another import striker. But I agree with allowing him some time up front, I think he ticks the boxes we want in that position.

I would almost look to play a front three- interchanging with Brockie / Ifill / [insert new striker who can play wide as well].

However with Pantelis & Bertos as wide options, a front two with wingers and two central mid seems more reasonable. My question is where will Brockie play, and where will our new signing fit in? AM or ST?

Brockie on 442

So with Brockie in the bag, what about the potential of lining up McKain? Could we see the All Whites 3-4-3 back in play then?!

So this, and Mossy, means that the Nix have all the AWs in the A-League, except Judas, Mini-Judas and Wee Mac.

Which means we've had all the AWs in the A-League except Wee Mac.

                  Moss

Muscat   Siggy    Dura    Lochy

         Lindsay     Lia

Leo                          Pantelis

       Brockie      Ifill

Subs: Downey, Pav

This is our current 11. Looks like we have a lot of players to sign, 3 foreign slots to spend.

There's a lot of depth to fill. I suppose the youth program will provide some players for injuries.

But we will still need at least a couple of local wingers or a defensive mid... If we don't keep Griffiths we will need another emergency CB.

Any suggestions for some A-league quality squad players available?

Pleased to have another kiwi back at the Phoenix.  And Jeremy should be able to at least replace Daniel if he can improve his week to week consistency.

But this is not the signing that takes us into the top 2 - let's hope it's still to come.  Spotted Ricki in London last week out at West Ham.  He confirmed what we all know - Peter Halstead is not conclusively ruled out of the Olympic squad.

won't happen this coming season - muscat is returing to the mids.....and Griffiths is gone already.

I wouldn't place so much faith in Pantelis as a starter - he has had a history of very serious knee injuries, and has basically had to re-learn how to walk again over the last 10 months.

What about Ifill into attacking mid. He's got the experience and nouse to get his head up and control play, and by jeebus he'd be a threat in a second wave of attack.

This would leave the pacier / younger Brockie up front, and perhaps room for another foreign striekr as well.

Random I know, but then I always thought Greenie would have made a decent AM as well.

That formation was really to just to exhibit the holes in the squad and show that we have a team of 11 players, not intended as a fieldable 11.

Is Griffiths gone official now? Gutted that we didn't get Anderson then.

So we need a back ups for pretty much every position in defense and midfield then...

As well as 2 or 3 quality first team additions...

Big shopping list.

Happy to have Brockie onboard.  I think he is only just starting to reach his potential and could be a very good striker in the HAL

Shane Cansdell-Sherriff - Aussie CB or LB. Can also play LM & DM. Off contract with Shrewsbury Town, Hes a fringe Socceroo. Def Good enough. I can't think of a kiwi who isn't already tied up on contract who's better and fills those gaps.

Also he was at Tranmere with Greenacre...

Sounds like a good option for a backup CB/LB - as long as he's happy benchwarming most of the time

Definitely good enough ?

Another one of those 1999 U-17s that never quite kicked on despite coming within a penalty or two of winning the tournament.  He'd make it 4 that have been at the Phoenix:

 1    Jess KEDWELL-VANSTRATTAN
 2    Shane LOCKHART
 3    Shane CANSDELL-SHERRIFF
 4    Aaron GOULDING
 5    Adrian MADASCHI
 6    Mark BYRNES
 7    Jade NORTH
 8    Louis BRAIN
 9    Joe DI IORIO
10    Lucas PANTELIS
11    Scott McDONALD
12    Joshua KENNEDY
13    Iain FYFE
14    Brad GROVES
15    Anthony DOUMANIS
16    Wayne SRHOJ
17    Dylan MACALLISTER
18    Matthew MILOSEVIC
