NZF indifference to its own national league and the lack of any promotion/tv coverage has hurt ASBP crowds. The Nix playing a couple of games in Auckland is not going to sap the support from ACFC. We have a very loyal fan base, so does Canterbury United and Hawkes Bay United. The rest of the ASBP teams attract very few spectators so it wouldn't be an issue. The same is not true, unfortunately, for Team Wellington, who have largely seen their fan base biodegrade over the years. The Phoenix hogging all the limelight in Wellington has clearly played a part in that.

Get the Phoenix out of town a bit more often and all those so-called Wellington football fans who only turn up when the planets are aligned might just pop down to Dave Farrington Park. Just a thought.

alireggae - Before posting your opinions on YF there are 2 things you must be aware of:

1) Unlike the ACFC forum there is actually quite a few people posting here

2) As such, you may occasionally encounter - gasp! - different opinions than your own! This is a concept we like to call "debate".

Admittedly, "debate" can be a difficult concept to grasp, particularly for the insecure, the stubborn, the narcissistic and the ignorant, but just keep plugging away and eventually you will get used to it.

hang on. Weren't you complaining about the product we are selling on the field? If so, then how does a target man improve that?

2 different arguments really - I'd like us to play more possession football because I think we'd win more games, especially away from home.  But right now with this group, I don't see that happening, and I think we need a more physical presence in the box.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I think Louis Fenton needs a weeks rest. Maybe start Boyd and have Fenton fresh(ish) off the bench?

I will join you on the limb but think maybe Stein replaces Fenton (or Brockie moves wide, blah blah blah).

I have to laugh. I'm regularly at Kiwitea and Fred Taylor

God you talk bollocks. The onfield product is horrible. The one time we get a regular league game on TV, it was insipid crap football - certainly nothing to ATTRACT fans to go watch. By reflection, your team of imports play a lot better but if its only one team, how does this help to grow the league, as you stated a couple of pages back? The TW v Canty game was completely fucking awful and backs the point that if you want fans (both for Phoenix and ASB games) make the product worth watching, not find a new location to play it at.

To call ASBP football "insipid crap" is pretty insulting to all the players involved and shows a complete lack of perspective. You seem to be too bitter and twisted to appreciate what's in front of you. I bet you're fun.

Right, and if I insult Auckland over 30s div 5 is that insulting to them if that's the best level they can play at? Seriously man, get your hand off it.

Not really alireggae.

If you had said "If you are insecure, stubborn, ignorant, a narcissist, or any combination of those your opinions are worthless and will be shot down in flames before being considered" then maybe you would have a point.

Nobody gets shot down just for being an ACFC fan. Just a certain type of ACFC fan. And I don't actually include Trueblue in that category, even though I don't agree with him on every single thing.

From a numbers point of view, would the Beckham exercise be worth it?

If we were to estimate that we have 9-10 home games left and work on the assumption that crowds are budgeted at 10k pax, then if you sold out the stadium from the home games (an extra 15k pax for 9 games at....$15 per head for the sake of conservatism), you would bring in just over $2 million. Plus the sponsors you would attract, the feel good factor and crowd swell, the wage would justify itself as not exactly being money being thrown away or an unrecoverable expense.

How it works from a football perspective, is different.

Isn't it only a 10 game guest stint being talked about? So your looking at maybe 6 games at home in the best case scenario.

Im guessing FFA is going to subsidise whoever puts in a bid. They set up that fund at the start of this season for this exact purpose.

Shaun Derry was on the radio this morning saying he would not mind playing in the A League. Plays in the middle of the pitch and knows Ifill. Worth a phone call Ricki or at least get Ifill to do your spade work for you? Good for a season or 2 maybe?

Also, if the no cocks policy is stopping us signing good players then maybe it needs to be re-thought.  If we have a cr@p team of nice guys that's not great...some of the best players in the league are complete bell ends.  May make the managers job easier to not have to deal with difficult players but that's why they call it management really

Have been told (by a player-who-shall-not-be-named, funnily enough JD)  that Smith and Muscat don't meet the 'no cocks policy' or even come close so as much as people like to think our recruitment is based on that, with the way these two came in, clearly no such 'policy' exists.

Well that's interesting.  Has always been a bit of an excuse for not signing various players
But it does seem that the team is generally very close off the field and that is no bad thing
