I would imagine Gulley has been signed along with Watson at this stage. Spots left open for a overseas DM and an ASBP bolter poss. Can see Bertsch taking that last visa spot

Stevens to FSE/Team Welly

Still sceptical about Gulley starting at RB. He has improved, I'll give him that, but he was both good and bad against Auckland and he'll have to be better than that vs Roar. Caira, similar questions. Fuck we are lite at full back and DM!

Fuck this stupid game

Surely they'll just use Gulley as an injury signing.

Shermy will be the worst signing of the season IMO.

2ndBest was just tweeting about an unknown player at DM for the 2nd XI at training. Looks like you solved the mystery.

Cool name. Let's do it.

I don't think he is the player the Nix are looking for.

I'd also add that he is 30. Why him and not the proven Thompson if age is not an issue.

Look forward to hopefully seeing him on the weekend. Just glad to hear they are still looking to fill the slot.

Price?

Has to be this - otherwise he would be in an A League jersey already - He has trialled with half of the league this off season.

Ok then why not Bertsch then knowing that he will soon be a Kiwi (and thus not an import) and is young AND cheap?

If price is the issue or age is an issue, then this kid is the answer cause development now, will have a positive result in a years time (or however long it takes for his imminent residency)

I think the issue with Thompson is he didn't fit into the 2 at base of midfield

Normo's coming home

Because Bertsch isn't good enough to make a positive difference right now. I don't really know much about this guy but think it doesn't hurt to take a look.

Besides Hernandez who is still overweight we havent signed anyone decent, cunningham? he isnt even THAT fast but hey never know once the season comes round, but they need to sign someone in the middle who will snap a few people in two

Permalink Permalink

This Auckland lad is supposed to be decent right? Can he also play at RB? If so, injury import cover for Fenton?

The Dom-Post is reporting this now.  And that Gulley will be signed as injury-cover for Fenton.

Riera is a left footer. He covered LB for City and got a couple MOM matches in that position. If you had said to me 'Lets look at him for LB" I think that would not be a silly move. As a DM.... I don't think he is the player we need/looking for. He plays laterally a lot and is not really a ball winner.

I agree that Bertsch may not be good enough (based only on highlights of the ACFC game and nothing else) but the reports on here is that he has the potential. So if he is young, cheap and very soon to be non-visa player, why not get him in now? Can't be worse than Lia. Is he ready to make a difference today? I can't answer that honestly so I do not know but that extra years experience will make him a better footballer for when he can be signed as a Kiwi.

On the other hand he's a scrapper with a good engine. And as a DM he doesn't make a habit of giving the ball away in tight positions - unlike Clapham e.g. Apart from Ivan, he's the first name on Ramon's teamsheet.

Pinning our hopes on a journeyman Spanish mid-fielder no one else wanted - why does that ring a bell ?

Don't you start going Herbert on me Ernie.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Just watched a video from the city v phoenix game from city's website and although it is only highlights he didn't feature much in it which surprised me, so what did he do to impress EM because from what I saw only 1 move came from him in DM so to me offers no more than princess or manny.

What's wrong with Hogg? Signed for Waitakere not wanted by City? Still on  Allwhite's radar (under suspension).
What happened during his Phoenix stint as I can't recall any announcement for or against his suitability as LB?

Hogg went over to trial over in Scotland, so Ernie never got a chance to see him.

Riera doesn't do highlights. He's a dependable water-carrier. Maybe that's what Ernie saw.
