no, because it was one para in the paper edition of the Domp - and none of my google alerts have picked it up as being online

if you've got a google alert that picked it up feel free to flick the 'search terms' over in a PM - cheers

p.s. - last night really didn't help either of us, but have to acknowledge your impressive home record!

Yeah get that but after the match when he came off injured Danny Wilson (Hartlepool manager) said they didn't know how serious it was and he maybe ok to play the next week.
So I was saying is this another bad injury? Is it Joel going sod it I'm out of here and not wanting to aggravate it? Possibilities of what him not being involved was what I was getting at.

From page D2 of today's Dom;

"Phoenix wait on Porter

With Hartlepool United's season now over, the Wellington Phoenix hope to know within the next week whether Australian striker Joel Porter will sign with the A-League club for the next three years.

Porter, who has spent the past five seasons with English League One club Hartlepool and scored 43 goals from 160 matches, was targeted by the Phoenix to partner Shane Smeltz, and chief executive Tony Pinata is expecting an answer within days.

"We've really left him alone till after the season," Pinata said. "If he does come then fantastic. If he decides, or the club decides, that he's not going to be released, we just move forward."

Pinata said there was a plan B should the Porter deal fall through, but he would not elaborate."
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Keen as to sign for the phoenix?
If that was the case he would be a confirmed signing.
Maybe is sniffing out a better deal elsewhere.

I really hope we Get Porter!!  Based on the Youtube clip of him banging them in from everywhere I'd say he's exactly the type of striker we need.

Seemed to have a complete bag of tricks, rounded the keeper, chipped the keeper, scored with both feet, from close and long range, headers, tap ins and always seemed eager to and capable of beating his man.....

Come to Phoenix City JP.....

Still concerned about his reoccuring knee injuriues. Bit hard to do tricks when you can't move your leg.

are people still keen on Mully?

yes, but only so we can sing (to a suitable Paul McCartney tune)

he'll score a freekick   (or, he'll win a freekick)
a long shot

Sorry, I can't get excited about a player who was only considered good enough to start in 10 games in the second worst defense in League 1 and is not wanted, by his manager, to play League 2.

I'd hate to see us drop our standard just because he is a Kiwi.

I do think we need a specialist right back - not a part timer - we're not talking a match winning striker, I would have thought there would be a few decent right backs available - somewhere.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

We do have to go back to the fact that Smeltz was struggling to get game time in the conference for Halifax and things turned out okay there.

Different environments and styles of play can bring out something different in a player.

And of course the different standard of football.

Mulligan is a really good player. Experienced and at just 26 his best football is still ahead of him. He would be a great signing. People are just bitter about that sunday news report that says he is asking for too much money...And they dont stop and think...how many bullsh*t allegations has that newspaper made in the past? Eg i remember them saying paul gasgoinge was going to play for the Kingz haha and so many more regarding the warriors and other sports teams

You have to remember that when he joined them in January they were pretty much already f*cked - in fact they were one of the form teams in the last half a dozen games in the league

Can't see Mully has a lot of other options....really when a relegated team does not want you then you are hardly likely to have better teams queueing up for your signature.

Provided he doesn't want big $$$ sign him up I reckon. Change of environment...back in kiwiland with a positive go ahead team like the Phoenix and he will respond.

accding to 4-4-2 Jerry Karpah is having a trial with the phoenix next week, does this mean the porter deal is in doubt? surely they would have some indication of where we stand with getting porter by now? or is karpah being looked at as a cheap back up player/option to cover is semltz goes to the olympics?

Could be part of the 'back-up' plan mentioned in the Dom on Monday by Tony P.  Could just be a chance to look at him in case we lose someone else.

Wellington Phoenix will hand former Perth Glory striker Jerry Karpeh a chance to impress with a trial next week. Karpeh, 23, currently plays in the Victorian Premier League with Whittlesea Zebras where hes scored four goals in 11 games for the mid-table club.

The tall, powerful striker was also Football West State Leagues top scorer in 2007 at Floreat Athena.

It was this form that earned the Liberian-Australian a brief spell at Glory last season.
What do you think?

Has anyone see Karpeh play?

I don't remember him playing much for Perth in '06-'07...

I thought he looked pretty decent for the Glory.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I hope he isn't our 'Plan B' if Porter falls through. He's a shocking player. I heard that he is pretty disruptive as well (goes out and parties a lot etc.)

That would be because he signed halfway though 07-08...

Played 7 games, 6 as a sub scored 1 goal.

I heard he trialed with the Jets but GVE didn't want him. Good athlete, average player seems to be the consensus. If he couldn't break into Perth when they were desperate for a striker..

From memory, he was a pacy and skilful player with good work ethic for a striker, but his finishing left a bit to be desired.
I don't know much about the disruptive influence that Valeo mentioned, but I've always thought that as long a pleyer performs well on the field what he does away from the game is up to him. Unless he turns out to be an axe-murderer I guess.el grapadura2008-05-07 11:43:52

I guess that is the point of a trial though isn't it.  See if those involved here think he has the right 'feel' to be involved at the club and the right skills to provide the results needed.

Or turns out like Gazza! Whom last weekend was found begging for money for a Taxi ride. Enter the QPR chairman to save the day as he passed him in the street.

This feall may make a good back-up or even starter. We certainly need a few strikers. Smeltz can't carry the scoring alone.

Karpeh - I like the idea of a tall player with pace and athleticism being up front to partner Smeltz, that is potentially a good combo. Sounds a bit like a younger Coveny, if so that would do me, knock the ball down to Shane and let him plant it in the net

Sort of scraping the bottom of the barrel when we are considering a striker who could not do the business for Perth!!!  Sounds no better than Brownlie.

Hope this does not mean the Porter deal is looking shaky. Hartepool must have finished their season, whats everyone waiting for?. Every day without conformation makes it less likely IMO.

Love to hear those golden words from Terry P .... " Phoenix have a major announcement coming up"

Mind you apparently the Milan transfer for Ronaldinho has fallen through.....come on Terry P....just sell about 10 of your tower blocks and you might have enough for a down payment for his transfer fee!!!!

cheers for the update Domp

like others above I'm pretty undecided about the guy, after all he didn't seem able to even take the place of Stumbleboots Robinson nor displace Harnwell the headcase centreback as a striker  in the Perth lineup

still, he certainly seemed fairly quick and robust
