Rukavytsya has gone on a trial with FC Twente. Perth will be trying to re-sign Dadi now so if we want him we need to act soon. Mrdja also looked good in his game against Queensland getting on the scoresheet

Yep, but like Hard News pointed out Mrdja and Durante will not play together because of bad history. He's got an absolute cracker of a shot on him though. valeo2009-01-10 23:59:23

Just wondering... if we did sign Aloisi would he stop being The Wrong Aloisi and become The Other Right Aloisi? I'd love to see him here... but not as the only striker. Maybe plus Dadi plus one other, preferably a youngun: Possibly Drapes? Leeds_Chris2009-01-11 07:48:35

Looks as though we've missed out on Deano Windass this time around

Its no longer a problem.

Here is the latest on Aloisi, from todays SMH.

"Coach John Kosmina, himself under pressure to keep his job after a disappointing season, has said Aloisi was free to leave the club if that was what the player wished.

"There has been a lot of speculation that I am going to walk away, but it is not true," Aloisi said.

"I am not going to shy away from anything. If things aren't going your way you don't just quit. You don't walk away from challenges. If I was a quitter I wouldn't have spent 15 years in Europe, wouldn't have played in a World Cup or played so many years for Australia.

"I am at Sydney for another year, at least. I am going to give it my all and work hard and turn it around so that we have a great season next year, not only for myself, but for the whole team."

It is a question of who do you believe.

Kosmina is looking  to make Aloisi the scapegoat and keep his own job.  Aloisi is saying all the right things to ensure he doesnt miss out on getting paid out on his contract if he gets the push.

I find it hard to believe Kosmina could get away with putting the blame on Aloisi. If you have a bad season because one player doesn't fire, then its the fault of the coach/management for not ensuring there were adequate back-ups. Critical_Lemon2009-01-11 09:56:04

Word coming out of Australia that that Socceroo Culina has/will sign with Goldcoast. He has been quoted as saying despite a good offer from his current club Dutch champs PS eindhoven and interest from Dynamo Zagreb he wants to come to the A-League.
Deal worth $3.6 million for 3 years plus extras

This is huge for the A-League...Culina is only 29...at the peak of his power coming straight from a very good senior European club. what a score for Goldcoast...and with " the Phoenix strikers" Smeltz and porter up front they should go real well next year.

would be nice to think the Phoenix will dig deep for a couple of big signings for next season

I must stress that i think that John Aloisi would be a good buy/pick-up. He might be able to pick up his game here and do a Smeltz, going through a hard time join a new club and become a hero!

+1 Smeltz revived his career here so can Aloisi!

Bring back Zura!

There's not a chance Aloisi will come to this club, we've never even had a real marquee and you decide you want the highest paid football in Australia? Craziness. I hope he either rediscovers his form, or gets to go to a team where he can perform next year.

The standard of import strikers has been OK this season; Cristiano, Fabiano, Dadi... maybe the 'nix will try their luck with imports again.

Van Dijk too. He's been great in the last half of this season.

aussienixfan - Aloisi wont be the highest paid player anymore. I'm guessing he will have to take a large pay cut.

Haha I know most people wouldn't agree but I don't think Zura was too bad. His workrate seemed to improve a lot near the end of his time at the Jets and I'd love to see him playing for the Nix. He didn't seem to have the happiest time in Australia though... so I doubt he'd even consider coming back, even if a club wanted him.

Zura would have been a success if he was happy with his family etc.

Big loss too phoenix by losing Moss & Smeltz, Phoenix should have tried harder.

being honest I was a Zura fan. he was a good player to watch. a great drama story. he played some great deliveries that nobody could convert, and I think that like van Djik if he had been given more time he would have showed more. I'm not sure if he was an out and out goal scorer, or at least didn't have his shooting boots on too well during his time in Aus.

I certainly don't agree that he was Newcastle's problem. I thought that with him, Song and Griffiths they were playing some attractive football.

edit: having said that I don't know if I would want him at the 'Nix. certainly not as a marquee player. didn't seem to have a lot in the air. Fred first.

Exactly, he is doing the right thing now (for himself) by saying he will be there next year.

I notice we havent heard anything from him about the "gentlemans agreement," instead confirming that he has a contract he intends to fulfill, a smart businessman.

In the interview before the game that I now want to forget ever happened, Terry said that we would be bringing in 4 players next season. All of which will be imports. Interesting.

I heard the commentators talking about this missed the interview they seemed to imply that these would be our only four does that mean our reserve GK will be non-Kiwi/Australian?

So signing Coveny was a way of building a future?

probably gets too much money and his age will be against him but I reckon kevin Phillips  would do well in the A league

Just scored 2....

If he could keep up this form i'd take him on a 1 year contract until we find better options for sure.

Yeah good point. He seems decent. In saying that, Dadi has still been more effective.

Well, well well......Article in the Sydney morning Herald....Smeltz talks Turkey

Turkish club Genclerbirligi are chasing Smeltz. Same club that signed Jedinak have reportedly offered Smeltz 3 times the GC deal. Smeltz has only signed a precontract with GC. Saturday night GC upped Smeltz's offer and their owner threatens legal action against the Turkish side.

Love it if The Turks score Smeltzy right under GC's nose...serve them right. Makes you wonder what it does to a players head negotiating contracts and counter contracts the night before a match. Smeltzy didn't seem that switched on against Sydney.
