...and I've replied. No one knows.
He has not yet signed a new deal here, but he has not been confirmed anywhere else.

going on expereince on fm
We should give dodd a 2.9k contract a week
with bonuses of $300 a game
575 for a goal
and a 140k signing feel
should work ;)
ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

To be honest if we look at all the players coming off contract in the A League at the end of season it does not look good.
I wasn't a big fan of Dadi even though he has done well this season next season could be different and Petrovski is a nutter........
I feel particulary in the Striker department it is a no brainer all 2 or 3 that we are to sign will need to come from outside the League and I wish I knew of some viable options, I feel for next season we are likely to go back to Brazil and sniff around there quite aggressively even though we and other A Leaguers have had mixed results. Even though it has been mixed there seem to have had more success stories than non Australian players coming from Europe.
Even if we sign 2 half decent strikers:
How do we replace the best striker in the competition????

We dont have the best striker in the competition, that honour at present goes to Matt Simon who has scored 11 goals.
Smeltz has 7 goals and 5 penalties.

In my opinion Smeltz is the best striker in the A League and probably was last season as well.
Think about the money Archie Thompson and John Alioisi are on and the value for money we have got and what Gold Coast will get from Smeltz.
If we don't replace all the goals Smeltz has banged in over the last 2 seasons we will struggle in the League and therefore find it very hard to argue with Old Bin Hamman or whatever his name is from Asia FC in trying to kick us out.

I don't think Smeltz is the best striker in the league. It might be more reflective of our team, but i would rather a striker with pace and more flair. Smeltz has scored 2-3 really "fancy" goals this year though. I just think new strikers will hopefully bring a different style to our attack which will make our team more successful in scoring goals. Just my opinion.. hockeycam2009-01-15 16:11:52

and with those 12 goals he is in 1st place to take the golden boot! who is going to remember where those goals came from in a year or two!!!?!?!? or how the second placed striker scored less penalties.
Queenslander 3x a year.

most of the talk has been about signing a couple of good strikers for next season...which is fine. But if we don't sort out our attacking midfielders then you could sign van nistlerooy and it would,nt do us any good.
The amazing thing with Smeltz is the high number of goals he gets per shots on goal. Considering he lives off scraps for most of the game then one sniff and bang..its a goal. Its a shame he's going but I will be very interested to see how he goes infront of a creative midfield at GC and beside an experianced partner like Porter(hopefully not too good against us).

Pace and flair is needed just like hockeycam said, someone to compliment Leo and Troy a bit more, although Leo could do with some practice at getting more crosses onto the penalty spot. It was said by someone ages ago the Smeltz is a goal poacher (in fact that may have actually been on fourfourtwo), he just gets onto the end of a few good balls once in a while.

Thats my point, I can't think of any other strikers that score as frequent from so few attempts and sh*te service therefore with the number of goals last season and this season = best striker in the League.

keeping him is a good idea....sadly i dont think that sorta coin is right, im guessing he isnt on half of that currently (im assuming he isnt one of the big earners on the clubs books and i doubt he will be in the future)

on another note, re-asking my question: are we looknig for additional youth players this year or are our current lot still under contract and eligible?

Just putting this out there -
Victor Sikora would be a great signing for the nix.
I remember him banging them in for Ajax and I think he played a couple of games for Holland too.
Similar styled player to Leo bertos, he and Leo on either flank could be a deadly combination!
I realise first and foremost we need a replacement for Shane, but Sikora would be a great signing for the 09/10 season.

yeah agreed.
is costa the only one that is still eligible next season. Im sure draper is eligble next season? but troy must be turning 22?
Draper - Aug 13, 1989 turns 20 this year, maybe before the start of new season (this one Aug 15)
Costa - Feb 19, 1990 turns 19 this year, (the week we play the prelim final
)Hearfield - Oct 31, 1987 turns 22 later in the year, 21 at the start of the new season
That's all I can give, cant find a link for what date you have to be U21 at. Anyone know?

From that I would assume Draper is still eligible next year then, considering he is almost two years younger than Hearfield is, and Troy was eligible this season.

I've said it before - Rivaldo
Classy attacking midfielder
[/QUOTE]
Was absolutely terrible in the game against Adelaide. The only thing he has retained is his terrific diving ability.
Sikora is 99% definately going to sign for Perth again.

What is the average wage at the Phoenix? A few people from home etc have asked me and I literally have no idea?
100-150k i'd say
