If you are a fan of Johnno why is it "sweet news" that is contact is nearly up?

This is the end of season 3 you know.

In that case, Gao's 'contact' is nearly up as well.

With Tony P's advice that Johnson is contracted to season 4 here is how we look as at today;

Wellington Phoenix

CONTRACT EXPIRES END OF SEASON THREE (07/08):

#7) Ross Aloisi

CONTRACT EXPIRES END OF SEASON FOUR (08/09):
#1) Mark Paston
#2) Jeremy Christie
#3) Tony Lochhead
#5) Karl Dodd
#6) Tim Brown
#8) Vaughan Coveny
#9) Shane Smeltz
#10) Michael Ferrante
#11) Daniel
#12) Richard Johnson
#13) Steven Old
#19) Greg Draper
#20) Glen Moss
#??) Gao Lei Lei

CONTRACT EXPIRES END OF SEASON FIVE (09/10):
#17) Vince Lia
#23) Costa Barbarouses
#??) Leo Bertos
#??) Andrew Durante
#??) Jon McKain

That's 20 players, if Hearfield is confirmed 21.

Leaves 2 spots (max is 23) for a RB and Striker.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Seriously?

Do you just argue for the sake of arguing? We didn't know whether Johnson would be kept or be released. It's good news to hear he has anothr season in him.

What a F** W**. Read the posts before pasing such stupid comments. Shall I spell it it for you???

1/ Posted "Johnno contract ends seaon 3"  .....did you not read that?
2/ Posted  "that's sweet news! i'm a fan of Johnno"
3/ Posted  "If you are a fan of Johnno why is it "sweet news" that is contract is nearly up?"

Now explain why that would be starting an arguement as you posted. It is just pointing out the facts.

What sort of logic is that?? Orginal post says Johnno season 3 and Gao season 4.

And yes I'm not keen on Gao as stated in previous posts, but I am a fan of R Johnston and hope he's here for the long term.

Cosimo's comment "sweet news" was made after he learned from Tony P that Johnson's contract wasn't up this year, as we thought, but had another year to run.

Gao has signed a one year deal.

From the announcement on the Phoenix website; "Chinese footballer Leilei Gao is back on the Hyundai A-League crusade after signing a one-year deal with Wellington Phoenix FC for the 2008/09 season."

Congratulations to Tony P and Ricki on two more professionally handled transfers - Hearfield sounds like an exciting prospect and Stephen Old now has an opportunity to get game time at a level better matched to his current abilities but still has the door open to him at the Nix if he can develop and improve.

Player profiles are on the Nix site, including positions, but it's not quite up to date - doesn't include Gao or Hearfield and still has Spoonley and Old.

Isn't Hearfield a attacking mid/striker? go COSTA anyway. Would not be suprised to see Lia in the backline at some stage

I think we need a right back and sigmund and a striker probablty porter
get aloisi on a coaching role and get coveny one for next season. maybe jonson as well.

Yep we do and fingers crossed on Porter. Get coveny a coaching role for THIS season and give Costa a run

That list looks a little light in defence. No cover at all. You could move Plodder and Lia back, but it's still very midfield-heavy.

Daniel covering for Lochhead while playing himself it looks like.

Has anyone seen enough of David Mulligan to rate him against Kristen Rees as right back ?

Ricki obviously thinks he's a better bet if he let Rees go to make way for Mulligan.

Here's an extract from a Port Vale site which implies Mulligan is struggling to get a start - unless he's been injured.

"Meanwhile, Vale's Kiwi right-back Dave Mulligan is a target for New Zealand side Wellington Phoenix. The club, who play in Australia's A League, are managed by Ricki Herbert, who also manages Mulligan for the New Zealand national side. Mulligan joined the Valiants on a free transfer from Sc**thorpe in January, but his contract runs out in the summer.

Mulligan could make his first start for six weeks tomorrow as midfielder Robin Hulbert is a doubt for the home game with Leyton Orient because of a shoulder injury. Paul Harsley is likely to switch from right-back to midfield, leaving Mulligan competing with Keith Lowe for the vacant spot."

Rees pretty much played on the right side of a back three.  Mully is a right back.  Hard to compare.

What about right back - the article implies that Mulligan is struggling to be the 2nd choice right back at Port Vale.
