Not that I have any names to suggest, but wonder if there are any good players in the South African leagues, similar cultures, english speaking, and loads of them are moving here for the lifestyle, might help in luring a good player who we can afford.

I wonder if Tony P and co. have had any opportunities to contract the Phoenix as a Sister club to a bigger outfit in order to gain loan player opportunities etc. a la CCM and Sheffield Utd? Does anyone know more about these Sister-club agreements?

Nothing has actually happened with the CCM/Sheffield partnership

Or any of the other patnerships between Aussie and UK clubs.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Romario ? Juninho ?
No Fowler is more well known most football fans around the world would of heard of him not the same for the other two.

So you think that most football fans in the world wouldn't have heard of two Brazilan World Cup winners?

Yup. Can you name every WC winner?
Or be sure that it's the same player?

Yes Beckham has never won a WC but he is the most known in the world same with C Ronaldo, Messi tons of others, club careers are far more important for a player then international careers. So yes Fowler will be the most known player and I don't even support Liverpool.

Ta. HN. I missed that.

You never know, the Nix could be the first small club to make such an agreement work. Maybe the trick could be in aiming for smaller outfits, to get a more even flow of benefits back and fourth.

So you think that Romario is more likely to get a bigger crowd then Fowler? This isn't about skill News a long career with Liverpool is far better then little stints with mostly small clubs in the world for your reputation.

that sister/brother whatever agreement partnetship thing hasnt really worked.

the kingz had one with chelsea, i think chris bryte( i forget his name) the son of that club  c.e.o and some other guy went over, and nothing came of it.

the knights had one with charlton athletic, all we saw here was a interview of a couple players at charlton academy "how would you feel about goin to play for the knights for a season loan"
got a generic responce "oh yeh i think it would be a great experience"

and again nothing ever happened, unless someone has other facts?

Agreed, the past agreements haven't borne any fruit. I just thought if one was to sprout up between two simarlar sized clubs it might be more beneficial for both than these one sided affairs.

Its a bit of a side topic, I was just curious to know if the Nix had had any such dealings (yet).

If they have, it's been kept very, very quiet.

Looking up his stats, he has averaged 1 goal every 2.2 games over his career, very handy, but in the last 4 seasons, he is down to 1 every 3.1 games, which projected out is 7 goals for the A League season  _ less than Smeltz with 3 games in hand!!

Just thought I'd throw a few figures around on a Friday afternoon

Same with Beckham he was best in Europe but he went to LA for his reputation not his skill same with what Fowler will be doing.

Why do posts from wellyphoenixfan normally seem to be followed by a barrage of statistics

Well Fowler's reputation was biggest for club and Romario for country so it depends what you believed is more followed and that will be your answer to who has the bigger reputation.

I was saying that Super Mario came here (well, to Newcastle) on his reputation, not his skill.

But if the Fury want to fork out the money for him (weren't Sydney interested in him at some stage last year?) they're welcome.

As for who has the biggest reputation, I don't really care. If they come and play like sh*t, reputation isn't going to save them (The wrong Aloisi for example). Big name signings are only useful if they have the ability to back it up.

You'd have to ask yourself if they are trying to find every loophole they can out of that contract or if they are going to support him and help him ride through this bad patch.
$1.4mil is more than a few bottles of tequilla

Apparently they had a 'Gentleman's Agreement' that they can release Aloisi if he got injured/lost form badly. I've heard that he is as good as gone.

I would take him in a heartbeat, even though he has been lacklustre this season. He was great with the Mariners (well, maybe not 'great' but he certainly scored goals) - a player doesn't turn completely crap in the space of a few months.

what i've been thinking too.
He could slot in for smeltzy well. I think he would really do well at the phoenix. And I don't think its too unrealistic. Ross came here so why couldn't john?

Just don't know about Marquee status - but if we got no one better... just maybe not 1.4 mill

It'd be good to get a sister-club in Asia I think.  Maybe AFC's president would look more kindly on us if we did and it's not like it takes much effort.
