Yes I got the same impression, but like you I didnt get the full jist of what was said but it was certainly along those lines.

I'm pretty sure that is what I heard as well? He's probably realized that we're a great club. Well run, well managed, with quality players. I Hope John McKain realizes that too.

Don't know if I can trust my sauce here but apparently, Costa to the Roar next season, could be well off the mark, but could be true.

That would be sad, but good for him (and NZ) if he gets regular starts. Be nice to see a solid source sometime soon though

Probably in the preseason I guess...

Surprised if they use an import spot on him, but would be good. Doesn't look like he is ever going to be a regular starter here so hopefully he would get more opportunities and develop better there (even if he plays in their NYL team).

not because  ive been a long suffering blues fan for many years but have often thought that kevin Phillips would have been awesome in the A-league, he's scored goals at all levels and proved against wolves that he has still got what it takes

I am ludicrously skeptical, so forgive me for that, but if it were to happen that would be great.  I think he's hugely over-rated here and I wouldn't mind him not being in the Phoenix but being an All White I wouldn't want him to slip into obscurity so another professional club would be great.

For the record I prefer Draper.  Costa got it by being a 'local boy', or so it seemed to me.

Wouldn't call it over-rated, rather warmly supported because he is a local lad.  He's had a couple of good games and quite a few where he has struggled as a wee fella.

Paul Ifill rates him.

But agree - would be good for hm if he does get a chance to play more games (at any club).

Good luck to him if it happens.
As Junior82 said Ifill rates him ( think he's probably seen a few football players in his time).
If he does move, (and we couldn't blame him) , maybe we will get to see what he can become.
His pace will always worry A league defenses and with more experience it could well bite us on the arse.

And thats the problem, if he can still cut it in the EPL then his salary would reflect that. way out of our league atm.

Rumour has it...

Brisbane can't afford his wages. Adelaide will have to wait for the FFA to open the purse to get him on loan - For Van Dyke.

Yep I have heard Costa to Roar too.  I was gutted!!

Other rumours not involving us are:

Kosmina to Adelaide next year.

Van Dijk to Adelaide for ACL.

Pantelis to Roar

The Sky Blues have signed Wellington Phoenix keeper Liam Reddy to a three-year deal but have yet to make it official. Sydney will hold a media conference today to announce what has been described as a ''major'' player announcement.

They've never told me we're beating Melbourne 12 - 0 and Kevin Muscat has been sent off after attacking the referee.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

This. Putting them into a same sentence is a huge insult to Costa.

But LG doesn't get the opportunity to see TWs play much, so I'll forgive him.

Well, obviously - the deal was done some times ago, just not officially announced. We never had any shot of keeping him here long term.

Of course he is leaving, we recently announced contract extensions for Paston and Crowther...

Thats what the press conference is for. Farewell match at the SFS for the biggy against Melbourne this weekend.

They may use it to announce Reddy as well, but I don't know that.

Fair point.  But didn't he score two goals for TW?  Draper scored a hatful for Canterbury United and has scored more, still for TW.  I know they play slightly different positions but it's a good indicator and Draper wasn't only useful (for Canterbury at least) for scoring goals.

Last game of season 1 against CCM both players played and Draper was far more exciting coming not far off scoring.  Obviously Costa's done more since then but that was the only time I've seen them together and I missed part of it thanks to the people at the damn bar changing the channel every so often (bastards).

I hope you are right - sounds promising.

I also like Tony's comment;

"We're delighted with the players already secured for the future. If we can get those done then I think we're looking at adding maybe three or four new faces in the off season,"

The benefit of having the majority of the squad signed is that we can really focus on getting quality in key positions with the 3 or 4 new faces.

I guess 2 (?) of the new faces will need to be youth - I'm assuming Crowther is our only currently signed (for next season) youth ?

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Draper did get a hattrick in one of the TWs games this season, but overall has been very, very average. He's nowhere near the A-league standard.

Crowther will be too old next year I believe. And with Costa apparently going to the Roar then Marco will be our only youth players, so yeah, two more youths next season.

Caceres being looked at by a few other A-League teams

surely he would like to settle down and he's done enough for the Phoeni to offer him an extension.

Barron for Baba me thinks. But we probably dont need any more mids. Would be good to get him into proffesional football. I like his style of play, and it would be good for the all whites.

I don't know what Andy Barron brings us that we don't have. This is not a criticism of Andy but I ask that if we have Lia and Ferrante whom to me are similar in style (yet to see Barron make a tackle as opposed to Lia), why bring in a player that is amateur and not conditioned to that when we have a professional signed and one we could sign.

(That doesn't mean I think we should keep Ferrante or I rate him, I was just using the comparison. Ferrante has been a professional for a fair bit so has the edge)

OTOH Barron may show more after being in a pro environment much like Sigmund.

If they are looking for a young player, I'd like to see them go after Cole Peverley. He hasn't been as flash this year as others but I think he has the goods if someone grabs him and sorts his temperament for dumb fouls. Fitter, strong and can play most places. Adds that versatility.
