why support a team that would only have one kiwi player...certainly no incentive for terry to be wasting his hard earned

I don't think that worries Terry as much as some people feel it should.

Forecasts have changed, some dark clouds rolled in late but sounds like it might be good.

Certainly a growing buzz in town, by kick off it should be mad.

Few others are:

Andrew Milne at Rangers
Cameron Lindsay at Blackburn.

Though, they'd be unlikely to want to leave quality clubs that will develop their game.
No point signing young Kiwis untill we have somewere to play them!

This was just for the ACL if we made it, where NZers would be imports.

For the A-League I want normal amount of Kiwis.

I would only want Reddy to sign if Paston is off somewhere... don't want Paston to sit on the bench, he is too good for that.

Who knows Paston may have some offers on the table... or if not now, after the world cup.

Also the other day Stuff had the Q/A with Greenie, i asked him if many players he knew back home wanted to come to the A league... he said " he had a list as long as his arm..." So hopefully we may see another 1-2 good english recruits coming next year..

I dont doubt this for a second. Ive always maintained that England is the place to recruit from. There would be so many quality players who would love to play football in NZ/AUS.

Tony on Radio Sport this morning....

""We will be looking for 4 new players...""

I think,  a  centre forward, in the Dadi style, tall, a ball winner and holder, but not him
A left back maybe, I like Lochie, but someone to cover there
A centre back to take McKains place (if he leaves)
????

Won't we need two new strikers next year with Dadi and Costa leaving?

With  Barabarousos leaving and Hearfield possibly out of "youth" status, we probably need to sign some youngsters to keep our four U23 quota, or does that no longer exist now that there is a youth league in Aust.

ATTACKING CM

Well you would assume Costa, Mulligan, Ferrante and Dadi will be out? Well I would hope we drop Dadi. We can find a younger targetman in my opinion. Also there is a chance that McKain could leave. And perhaps even Caceres?

I don't know if Crowther will fit into youth, but I'm going to assume he wont.

So I would look at another youth striker.  Although Costa didn't get much gametime, his time here has been successful and the Phoenix have given him the platform to step up and get another contract overseas. Which has got to be good.

Then I would say targetman. Not Dadi preferably. Big and skilful. Van Dijk perhaps . Because yesterday I really thought Greenacre was starting to play quite well next to Dadi and that combination could be looked at.

A youth defender. That young guy from the naki are, whose name seems to slip me but has been training with the nix? Starts with M I think? Surely finding a youngster to grow into the role would be good. Preferably Left sided.

And then a CM. Someone with just that bit of vision to slip balls in. Thats one thing the nix don't do, and thats attack straight down the middle. Having someone to do this would make the side so much more dangerous.

Have cover there.  Muscat is a perfectly capable A-League left back.

We need at least 1 more youngster.

however we need him in the midfield, and running one-twos into the box, spinning past his man and making the final pass for goals (1 in the first semi, 1 in the build up to it) He'd be wasted at left back!

some more utility cover for there would be good. our season really took a dip when lochie was out.

Guess we could be a fall back option for Killen, if he cant get a good contract after the world cup.

Reddy himself said this afternoon on Radio Sport that he had not signed anything and was loving his time here. Of course that's what he was supposed to say, and I do think he will leave, but he's got tp be be thinking hard about it over these weeks.

Sydney can have Theo and we can keep Rocket.

No way Theo could go to Sydney, imagine how stabby the Tards would get.

In fairness to you and him, you're right - this is what you have to say, the week you play your new team in the semi-finals.

What time was he on (so I can find it in on demand)? And can someone remind me what time the Phoenix hour is on on Saturdays?

The obvious player we need is a ball playing central mid fielder which we have never had (Diego was supposed to be it but he was never going to be good enough)

i usually avoid this thread - there's a limit to how much gazing into severely broken crystal balls i can handle

but hell after yesterday it's time to dream about the next home game

* i'll consider other info but I'd rather have Reddy than
Theok

* creative mid -Fred was magical but had to wait to deliver to players who hadn't moved in time (iffy and greenie - or another might solve that) I realise fred is tied up at present

which begs the question can the Brown, Vinny, Manny combo do enough to shift the ball to our wide guys (which seems fairly entrenched as an approach in Ricki's planning - and hell right now ain't complaining!!)

I would replace Vinnie Lia or Manny with a creative midfielder. It's what we're missing and what has set Melbourne and Sydney (with Corica) apart from the rest of the teams in the competition. Adelaide look like they have found a good one in Flores.

Maybe Ifill has a mate who wants to come over..

Would take Nicky Carle tbh.

I hate Nicky Carle!!!

I'd rather have Kruse, atleast he has some talent.
Permalink Permalink

Nicky Carle has played A-League games where he has been dominantly the best player in the match.

Kruse ?

I'm not convinved by Carle, but likening him to Kruse is a disgrace.

a younger Charlie (too-many-fried-Mars-bars) Miller type would be superb

that guy scared me more than Hernandez as an oppo player

I'd like to see a defender with some pace, we will always struggle against Melbourne's counter-attacking style with our current lack of pace at the back.
Permalink Permalink
about 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Hearfield, Muscat, Lochy - none of them are slow really. But I presume you are talking about central defenders.

It doesnt take pace to shut down Melbournes game it just takes someone to sit on Carlos Hernandez for the most part but that is for another thread, next weeks match thread for instance!

Don't need defenders with pace when they have brains which we have.

Muscat is one of the best CB's in the league and he's also one of the slowest..

ditto Dura and McKain (though Dura has a bit of a pace)

And yep bopman that's right - you need to crowd the midfield to have a shot. One of the reasons im disappointed we aren't play them this week. Think we would have a big chance because Manny, Vinny and Tim are on fire in regards to shutting down players.
