Would we?  With that much money coming in that would free up some of Terry's other money and if people know about this they'd get on his back further about paying his bills - which he probably wouldn't want.

Just a thought.

Just read that article.  Interesting.  I wonder if he makes it and is good enough to play for NZ would he pick NZ or Sudan?  You'd think NZ based on us probably being better than them (I know nothing about their football, I'll be honest) and the fact that his life in Sudan didn't sound very good at all.

Also will be training with the Phoenix - good to know he's on their radar if things with Leeds fall through.

Any of you guys seen him play?

Plenty of factors could be involved, he could see himself as Sudanese first and feel that nationality more important to him. Or he may see himself being able to make more of an impact for Sudan (a la Winston Reid with us). Either way I hope that if he ends up being considered for the All Whites, he makes his intentions known and doesn't screw us around a la Asmir Begovic. Naturally I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and wishing him well

Yes Pim.

So you would rather see him back in the A-League instead of developing overseas - especially if interest from the Serie A is anywhere near the mark? Not to mention the fact that he's settled in Denmark and has been for 10 years+

If anyone should come back it's Killen or Fallon who wont be getting any better any time soon

There's no way he will sign BUT, hypothetically speaking, I don't see how a couple of years in the A-League, potentially being a standout player, would hinder him? The Danish league is hardly amazing.

I think we definitely need a striker, a creative midfielder, a central defender (preferably a versatile player who can pay every positon at the back!), and probably a keeper as well

The Danish league is better than the A-league, and is much more on the radar for other European clubs looking to boost their squads.

Coming here would be a significant step back in his career.

This year's UEFA coefficients place the Danish league at 15th (out of 53), which is one place above the Scottish Premier League and is 3, 4 and 5 places below Greece, Turkey and the Netherlands respectively, three countries where top A-League performers have struggled to make a mark (Burns, Djite, Rukavytsya, Holland).

Do you have a link to list? It would make an interesting read. What do they base the ranking on?

Daniel would rather play for NZ. Ive seem him play and played with him many times and the best way to describe him is a strong defender with a good touch and plenty of skill, plus he is a Rongotai old boy :)

Let's just say Danish sides have performed very creditably in Europe over the last few years, including this game for example.

It's a pretty decent league by European standards, much better than the A-league at the moment.

Well I'd say it's relatively average, whether the top team beat Man Utd once or not, and you're not giving the A-League enough credit.

Sure, the standard might be slightly better, but I doubt it's the light years ahead that you may think.

Anyway, pointless argument, Reid ain't coming here!

Obviously, speaking from experience of years watching Danish league football...

The A-league is improving, but it's still some way from being anywhere near European leagues, even the mid-tier ones like SAS Ligaen. Just to give you a few more results achieved by teams from this league:

In 2008, AaB Aalborg finished third in their Champions League group (ahead of Celtic), and which included a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. In the UEFA Cup the same year, they beat Deportivo La Coruna 6-1 on aggregate, and also Manchester City at home thought they lost the tie overall on penalties. Reid's FC Midtjylland also beat City that season in a game that season, though they too lost the penalty shootout.

If you honestly think any A-league team could get anywhere near such results, you're delusional.el grapadura2010-06-20 19:28:23

Vicelich is the perfect replacement for McKain. Even if it's just for one year. He proved he can keep the Italian team from scoring!

Sign Vicelich and Elliot now!

simon elliott would be a great shout for a year or 2. he still looks pretty mobile but granted he only has to play a few games at the world cup, injuries might have a say with a 30 game season. but he is a class above.

Yeah i think Elliot would have a great time in the Nix. If he's feeding those type of balls to Big Mac, Ifill etc, will be a great sight to see.

I thought Elliot wanted to keep playing in the US? If he was willing to come back, he would be a good pick up, even if it would be for a season or two.

Vicelich and Elliot would both be nice signings for the Phoenix, to finish their professional careers with us (especially Elliot). Vicelich still has game and almost scored a wonder goal this morning.

So what if a couple of Nix players get picked up as a result of their efforts in the World Cup - where will that leave us?

Lochy and Leo are getting game time and might receives some offers abroad.

If Lochy could not make Borough( no offence to them) he might get in one the many non league sides, but I doubt it.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

We'd have Elliott not getting any time at Beckham's club, and Boyens in the same situation at Thierry Henry's, MLS is where it's at!

Actually, Boyens to replace McKain?

Not sure about that, he's at the end of his career now and is taking outside steps preparing for his retirement. New family etc. It was only a year ago that he was close to losing his spot with the Nix. I'd be surprised if he got any substantial offer that was enough for him to leave here at this stage of his career.

leo bertos didnt get retained by Rochdale and yet he is a quality player for the a league. he has craft and ability but its the speed of thought and the instinctive play that makes you a cut above in the best European leagues. i think that is why the phoenix wont have any problems with players being poached, unless to the high spending middle eastern leagues. plus you should never buy a player on the strength of a world cup - just look at ulises de la cruz
