Well there's nothing there that quotes anyone saying he's going to the Phoenix, the fact that McMaster is in the country and has been confirmed pretty much cancels out that Vukovic article.

The article mentions McMaster, so I think they've taken that into account. But as you said, no quotes directly connecting him with us, so I'm leaning towards it being nothing more than conjecture.

The article seems pretty sure of it. With all the jetting into Wellington on monday and all. Could be interesting. Not entirely sure we really need him but he is a quality keeper.

If we were keen on Vukovic then getting McMaster is pointless, unless Paston is on his way out.

The A-League likes (may actually require) clubs to announce a match-day squad for that weekend on the Wednesday or Thursday. It looks like Vukovic can't even get here until next week, and if he doesn't sign we'd just be getting McMaster anyway (I don't think anyone is that keen on putting Gould out on the park), so signing McMaster as injury cover has a very real point.

Paston retiring? End of season?

Not a single person would be surprised if that is the case, especially if Vukovic came in and took his spot.

That's what it seems to be for me. Vukovic coming in to challenge Paston for the #1 spot and Paston to bow out at the end of the season leaving Vukovic with the posi all to himself next year with Crowther as #2. Would be an awesome signing if we could get him (and it would make the Paston haters very happy)

Because of one vocal Paston hater, I suggest signing Simon Elliottt as our next starting keeper...

Vukovic apparently wants to get back into Europe and the supposed offer is for one year only, so I'm imagining that if this is Pasty's last year, Vukovic won't be his replacement. He'd probably come here just to make sure he's getting playing/training time and a paycheck, rather than with the aim of anything long term within the A-League. He's young and would want to aim for higher things.

I'll be honest, he'd be better in goal.

that bald head of his deflects the stadiums light into the eyes of the strikers and BAM ! clean sheets every game.

I read that he Vukovic turned down a contract in Belgium 2nd division, to sign for us for one year. So not sure what the deal is there.

But with the international transfer up in the air, there's also talk Vukovic couldn't play for us until mid-September.

We definitely need McMaster for the 8 weeks that Crowther is out.

The knitting circle in Auckland would love that, another Aussie to replace a kiwi..

"McMaster, who played 20 matches for the Roar, will be back-up to Phoenix number one custodian Mark Paston, starting with this Sunday's match against the Central Coast Mariners in Wellington.

The Phoenix continue to investigate options with a view to signing an additional goalkeeper on a permanent basis.

The club has also narrowed down candidates for another potential signing. Head coach Ricki Herbert is looking for another attacking-minded player and has identified targets from overseas.

As it stands, the Phoenix have 20 contracted players on its books, with scope to sign an additional three players (including one foreigner) should they be required."

Sounds like they have an offer out for Vukovic and another attacking player.

I exaggerated for effect. Of course I wouldn't want Elliottt anywhere near Wellington.

McMaster stays for 8 weeks, Vukovic arrives in 8 weeks. Simple.

Fifa 10 has shown me keepers can be just as brilliant as a striker at scoring goals.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Tomorrow is the last chance saloon for Ricki. Any less than 3 points and it's curtains for him!

I think if we even concede a goal tomorrow he should be sacked, as it would clearly show he has signed any good defenders or enough goal keepers..

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

So everyone in Plymouth hates Fallon. Hey Rory, God called, he wants you to come to Wellington as our marquee striker.

Surely he should be starting to see the a-league as a better option than League 1 or worse. Premier league ain't gunna happen.

*Vukovic, mate.

Well if he arrived here late last night and they agreed terms this morning, 5pm would give them time to get it all drawn up and give him a physical. Critical_Lemon2010-08-23 12:33:20

Vukovich is accurate phonetically, since English doesn't have a single letter equivalent of Croatian and Serbian ć.

Fallon.

Unless Paston's injury is more serious than first thought (and he needs surgery), then I can't see where the hell Vukovic is going to fit in?

I think it will be Vukovic but it does seem like a strange signing.

Not if Paston is out for a few weeks. Would be a short term signing until he found another club I'd say

But we already have McMaster as a short term injury replacement.

When I say strange I don't mean for us, having two starting quality keepers isn't a bad thing at all but it would seem strange that he would want to come somewhere that he will probably not start (unless he is just desperate)

Yeah but if Paston & Crowther are out I'd rather have either McMaster of Vukovic on the bench than Gould

At this time of year most clubs in the world aren't looking for a starting 'keeper, and he's been quoted as saying that he hasn't had any income for a while and just wants to find a club for this season.

Hope it's an outfield player but looking like Vukovic.
