We don't, but we have here possibly becasue North still thinks he has overseas chances in him. Musa will be first choice ahead of him by the end of the season anyway.

It was previously reported that we offered a 3 year contract so, if the report was correct, the one year term appears to have been North's choice.

With low risk players (proven track record) such as North I would be happy with 2 or 3 years but he'll come here, play well, love the Nix and Welly and extend.

With higher risk players a 1 year term is very sensible.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Once he runs out in front of the Fever Zone once, he will want to finish his career here.

with the three signings over the last two days I can ramp up the optimism

which was already looking good after last season

Jade N does seem a worthy McKain replacement (from this thread through the haze of a manic week and a few drinks, i can't figure if JN is our aussie marque (anyone got more brain available to apply to that question??)

would seem to make sense that he would be

Yep, we offered North a 3 year deal apparently so obviously he is keen to try his luck overseas again. I think that McKain will be sick of his Saudi club by then so maybe he'll come back :P

I'd like to see Siggy start for the first few games until North settles in.

JN is our aussie marquee according to the article.

Big Big pressure on a Mr Christopher Greenacre this year.
Top bloke, works his arse off.....but even he would agree that 5 goals and 1 assist last year is not enough to garantee him a place. We were near the top of the A-League for balls into the box last year but Greenie seemed to missing in action much of the time.

He often said he's better with a tall striker to play off. Well with Big Mac looking the goods He has no excuses now. For sure young Pavlovich will be breathing down his neck and if we sign Bambang then it will be more competition for his place.  At his age this will be a defining season for him. Sure hope he has a great season.....we need at  least 10+ goals from him.

Greenie's a bit of an enigma.

I was really harsh on him after the Bocca's game. But hadn't realised at that point it was his ball to D-mac for the goal, and he and D-mac were a good combo at Hams, if a little slow.

yeh...it will be interesting to see how we play this year...

On stuff today -

Meanwhile, Herbert said he hadn't spoken with off-contract All Whites midfielder Simon Elliottt about a move to Wellington.

"But depending on a marquee player and what we do there, we've still got time to have those discussions so we'll see."

I don't know bout Elliott. He really would be intense pressure on our cms.

We really have the depth this year. i'm not sure if we have the quality up front yet, would have loved a marquee striker of some type. A real goal scorer. But im extremely happy with what we have.

I can only really see Marco and Musa not being competitive. But they have time to grow and I think both could easily take their chances and make the most of what time they get this season.

Diego and Pav for me will both be reliable squad players and either could hit a purple patch and force their way into selection.

The more I see of Musa the more I think he's got something about him... I mean - Smith and Reid rival for the future - type something.

Marco needs to stop being injured before he's of use to anyone !

How's my driving? - Whine here

Yeah I think reid when I see Musa, admittedly only glimpses.

I really hope Musa turns out like a Patrick Veira kind of player. Huge expectations I know, but I'd love to see a CM of ours in a top team. There seems to be plenty of young New Zealanders coming through the ranks now. But I still think Elliottt would be a great addition, although it would mean an already quality midfielder misses out.

It seems the NZ media our obsessed with Elliott though. Asking Herbert at any chance they can if he will sign, Herbert obviously knows Elliott is a class player and wouldn't just come out and say "No we don't want him." But seems the issues with his wife getting residency in the US is enough to see that he won't be coming. Unless he can't find a club, and we picked up a long term injury.

I don't know about need, but it'd be nice.

What does Ricky mean by this exactly?

"But depending on a marquee player and what we do there, we've still got time to have those discussions so we'll see."

Is he saying we're still looking for a marquee attacking player, and if we pick one up then no, if we don't then maybe?
