Nix attracting a player of world cup quality? Arf!!!

under a particular set of circumtances, it is clear that you need to take that 'arf' back

Paston, Siggy, Lochead, Brown, Bertos, ...
Was referring to new signings.

the point here might be that lower ranked sides will have players of similar quality to our current Nix-based world cup players

their home leagues might not be as attractive as the A-League, and/or they might just want a better life for their families

the risk is that they will get a better offer from other leagues, but i don't see it as impossible that a world cup player could come into the a-league (preferably with the Nix - if they are decent)

Anyone else think we might be quite late with signing players this season because Ricki has to focus on the WC?

Anyone else think RH be

so successful at the WC he gets signed by a big club like Newcastle/Leeds, takes Ifill, Durante, McKain, gives Lochhead a trial. Convinces Serepisos to invest/buy into the club leaving the Phoenix in the lurch with Palmer to "save" the club with funds from his new mining operations in NZ and then capping crowds to 5000 and/or relocating to Auckland.

Meanwhile completely forgetting to sign new players.

If Ricki gets offered an oversea's job I doubt Ifill woul;d go - nor Lochy for that matter Dura and McKain maybe. Newcastle will be happy with Houghton I'd imagine anyway.

why wouldn't lochy go if he gets offered a job in a better league (presumably) with better salary?

I can hardly see Ricki ripping the heart out of a club he has an obvious emotional connection to. I also can't see Dura or Lochy making it at a level much higher than the A-league.

Besides, I preffer the rumour that his next job will be in charge of the Socceroos.

What would be considered successful at the World Cup to make Ricki signable elsewhere??

A win likely would, a draw might attract interest, 3 losses doubtful

He has already tried Middlesborough.

Since you're claiming that Elliot and James are sh*t, can you produce some stats to claim they are worse than say, Tim Brown or vince Lia?

At least when WPF wanked on about Paston via Moss he tried to back it up.

Well I think everyone agrees that I was right now. The stats are just a secondary back-up as obviously opinion is the best judge but you lot were telling me I was all wrong so I decided to take a unique approach to it. In the end I either convinced most of you or you saw the light/what I saw in Paston in the end.

You're right, we need someone like Kahn, Barthez or van der Sar. No, Paston is more than able for the position. We do need a better 2nd choice though.

He'd be playing consistently better football, and possibly earning more, in League One than here.
