He tends to drift wide though doesn't he.  That's what I noticed the two times I've seen him.

Fair point, he did that in the final (thats all I've seen from him) but I was still impressed, and maybe he was trying to do that because Canterbury just weren't offering anything on attack so he tried to go around the defender and do more himself? He just looked comfortable on the ball.

He goes all over the midfield and into the attack as well.  He's pretty much given a licence to roam, you'd think, seeing as he's head and shoulders above most of the others.

For what it's worth, I think he'd be a quality substitute for most A-League teams but he'll get better.

Yeah, LG is right. With Canterbury he has a pretty much free licence to roam around in attacking positions.

I've seen Clapham in a few games now, and think he tends to disappear for stretches of time, which is something he needs to work on. In the A-league, he won't be good enough to have a free licence, so will have to tighten up positionally and a little bit defensively.

If we're looking at him as a central midfield player, I still think he'd be behind Barron in the pecking order. But I think Clapham has very good potential, and will be an A-league player sooner rather than later.

No - how this thread got to 440 pages I don't know.  There hasn't been a single rumour broken on this thread at all unless Hard News tells us 5 minutes before an official announcement is made
Fred may have been broken and then covered up? This I'm not 100% on though.

Someone posted a while back that Gould was in / went to the UK on a scouting trip.

If correct any goss on how the trip went ?

Are we actively on to off season recruitment or has it gone on the back burner due to the World Cup ?

All I've heard is "we'll take our time" and that was a month or so ago.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Pretty sure Tony is on i, focus was on the licence with this number two and now recruitment comes back to the top.

He isn't going there, they are trying to sign him.

Owner has given permission to let go of Chris Coyne, Sekulovski & Pellegrino to free up cap space IF he agrees

Yes. That's correct. I'm still backing Sydney to get him personally.

Fallon would be a great signing, although i'm sure he will be looking to stay in Europe somewhere and have a good WC to get some good offers.

Ferrante has had two starts for Richomnd in the VPL and got them a couple of wins.  Been a step above most players by all accounts.

Still calling him to end up at Heart.

Aussie Marquee

One of:
Vince Grella
Brett Emerton - Nelsen could put in a good word to these two
Richard Garcia - Hull got relegated..
Michael Beauchamp - Right Back, playing in an average league at the moment in UAE.
Adrian Madashi - Right back, playing third division football in italy.

And IF they did change it to a New Zealander for us I say

One of:
Vince Grella Still only 30, a few years in Europe left for him.
Brett Emerton - Nelsen could put in a good word to these two Good player but better suited to playing in wide positions, would be wasted at RB and we have depth in wide areas. Would be good if played centrally. Still young enough for a couple of seasons in Europe. Is a Sydney lad, and would imagine West Sydney would be his first choice.
Richard Garcia - Hull got relegated.. Bertos and Ifill play in that position, so not really needed
Michael Beauchamp - Right Back, playing in an average league at the moment in UAE. Really a CB than a RB, and I am not sure would be a lot better than our defenders at the moment
Adrian Madashi - Right back, playing third division football in italy. Left footed and a CB, his team is in line to promotion so probably would stick around there.

And IF they did change it to a New Zealander for us I say

Might not be next year. His Portosummaga just snuck ahead of rightful league leaders Hellas Verona for the lead of Serie C1 Girone B. Leading by one point. If it stays that way - direct promotion and Serie B for Madaschi. All comes down to Sunday. Hellas-Portosummaga, in Verona, winner takes direct promotion (and a draw could see third place Pescara take it). Going to be a hell of a match (It's all I can think about this week haha).

Grella is always injured at Rovers, Emerton isnt too bad when he plays in the middle of the park, but isnt exactly creative.

Saw on a Rover's messageboard, that an ex-Rover, Shabani Nonda, is still without a club after Galatasaray released him in Jan. At 33 he might be at an age that lifestyle could be a good selling factor.

Where's Jarrod Smith now - is he fit?

yeah I still think Jarrod Smith and Kris Bright could be good options. Both would be good picks in my opinion. And maybe even Chris James if he looks ok. bring him over for a run around if he's keen? Would love for some of these guys come back and re-ignite their careers for club and probably country.
James has potential

None of these journeymen would fill me with any excitement. They are no better than what we've already got.

James would interest me in a trial but not the others.

What we really need is quality rather than quantity though

James would be my first pick out of the three.

Bright arguebly could fit the tatrget man role we need, however, I have never been old on him as a player so i don't know if he would make the grade.

Neil Mellor has been released by Preston...

wouldn't mind Smith or Bright if they were aware that they wouldn't be guaranteed a game...I wouldn't mind having too many strikers and a couple of them being Kiwis compared the situation last season where we had Greenie, with wing forwards in Costa and Ifill covering.

Going on absolutely nothing but from what Ricki was saying at the team naming, wouldn't be surprised if Clapham was picked up by the Nix if he didn't get a deal overseas post World Cup.

Just Ricki saying he needs to be in a professional environment.

A New Zealand attacking mid? Is he better than Diego? He looked interesting. How old is he? Be interesting to see if he can step up to the A-league standard.
