Could'nt agree more about that negative Dom-post article. The story should have been all about the two new striking trialists coming from Europe. Why has this been such a hushed up story...where are they from? who are they?

And whos going to be looking at these trailists? The Nix dont have a coach for the next month.

We have assistant coaches, a goalkeeping coach etc.  I'm sure Ricki trusts them.

I'm happy with the signing of Crowther, hope he really pushes Paston.

Class player from what i've seen but don't think he's worth marquee $$

I also am pleased. More importantly has he ever played for Aussie at junior level.  If not here is a potential AW keeper to give Moss, Bell and Spoons a run in 5+ years time.

Wishful thinking  I know!!!

Never played for Aus so far as I can tell. He's also eligible for England, Ireland and the US, so could be some competition.

Krishna did well today IMHO. Also, I'm responsible for Gangsta's reporting the second goal as being a trialist's, must have not recognosed Costa, my bad!

Even though he's a c**t, Griffiths _did_ almost single handedly carry them to a premiership.

So what is happening with Killen? By all accounts his Norwich spell was a bit of a failure.

Adelaide news.....Pintos would join Brazilians Cassio, Cristiano and Alemao while Ghana international Lloyd Owusu is due to complete the club's five-man import quota by signing this week.

Methinks we are way behind the eight ball on quality signings.

Bring on the 2 Euro strikers...

The two New Zealand Football Championship strikers hoping for A-League contracts with the Wellington Phoenix will have to wait a little longer.

Luis Corales and Roy Krishna have been on trial with the club for the past month.

It was thought a decision on their future would come today, before coach Ricki Herbert left with the All Whites for South Africa.

However, any decision has been put off until the club has had the chance to look at two more strikers, due shortly from Europe.

While little is known about the two new trial players, both have played in second tier European competitions, neither are English, and both are understood to be physically imposing.

In the meantime Krishna and Corrales have been released back to their clubs.

Similar to Peter Crouch (ironic name) I see from wikipedia etc.....3 goals from 9 games in 2009 tho, but with a good history of scoring prior.

A good decision to wait.....Im definately in the "wait and see" camp for these 2 Euro players..we need more imposing players as another observation from last nite is we lack height..there was a sameness about most of the players on show last nite.

Melbourne Victory had height and bulk last year.

Maybe Herbert will have a word to him when he's with the NZ camp??

Only other person i can think of that fits our needs that is kiwi is Bright, but i don't think he is A League quality, or atleast he wasn't a few years back.

We need some quality signings, everyone is improving and we seem to have gone no where.

Stig Tofting's way past it but what a laugh it'd be to have him here, he was absolutely furious 100% of the time.  Sent to prison at one point from memory.

Good to hear the two European players trialling aren't English, you get bored of English players.  I'm hoping for a Romanian and a Dane personally (not that it really matters at all).  It said they'd played in the second tier of English football, do you think that means Championship or Division 2?

Don't know if we really want Killen.  His career has nosedived dramatically in only a couple of seasons.  He should never have left Hibs - having said that I do have the advantage of hindsight.

Tor Hogne Aary seems like a resonable goal scorer 17 goals from 30 apps in 2008.  And from 2001 onwards 142 apps for 76. Kant find any information about 09?

He " was called up to the Norwegian national team on 27 January 2009, as a part of caretaker coach Egil Olsen's first squad.[2]. He eventually opted to withdraw from the squad to stay home awaiting the birth of his second child"

Perth are improving, who else ?  Adelaide and Brisbane are owned by the FFA and haven't made any significant signings.  Newcastle could only improve, the Mariners have gone nowhere, Melbourne have not added much.  Sydney, one significant signing, still no defenders.

Gold Coast look strong thanks to the FFA's blind eye, but apart from Perth no one has made significant change.  In fact if anything we're better off than most as we have plenty of room to move.

Bright is an interesting one.  On one hand you can remember that we haven't seen him for 3 years and when we did see him he wasn't even 20.  On the other, at that time people did claim he was the best player in NZ at holding up a ball (mainly people related to him)... I'd love to know if he's A-League quality but I'm not sure we can afford to test that.

"both have played in second tier European competitions" so no, I don't think that means the Championship or League 1.

I think Killen is suffering from spending a season on the bench. But honestly, even with the benefit of hindsight, it would not have taken a genius to see that was going to happen. I don't think he should have gone to the tims either.

The question is whether the Eerdivisie counts as second tier, or it meems the second tier of a nations leagues so the level below the Eerdivisie (just using the dutch leagues as an example).

At least if we got someone from say the Norwegian, Swedish or Belgian leagues the weather would make them feel at home.

I think it would be very churlish to call the Eredivisie a second-tier competition.
They surely either mean leagues like Norwegian/Danish/Slovakian (as examples), or second-tier leagues within bigger nations.

With no idea of the Norwegian language (or really who this guy is except that he is a tall b*stard), I can confidently say that his name is not pronounced 'cha-nt po-ten-shill'

Now that Corrales and Krishna have finished their trials and been sent back to their clubs does that mean that its possible neither of them impressed enough. With two Europeans trialing you would have to think that they now are more likely to be signed.
Are we in the market for 2? Suppose it depends what type of striker they are. Plan A seemed to be Target man plus either Corrales or krishna. Could now be sign both the Europeans if they measure up.
Shame for Krishna and Corrales, but a trial is your big chance.

In Norwegian language the double "??" is [o], the "?" is often read as , the "g" before "n" sometimes is read as "y", while "" after consonants is read as French "eu": [tur huine ory].

Would keep Stefan happy, I f I could choose we'd get another one-name player from Portugal (Deco anyone?) or a Nigerian. But hey, as long as they rip it up for us I don't think anyone will be too picky....

Ali Gerba, just released from Milton Keynes, is without a club at the moment. He's been linked with Montreal Impact in USL1 (North America's second tier, below MLS). Some Toronto FC fans are hoping they'll sign him, but my mate who runs TFCConnected.com reckons he wouldn't be a starter and could be better off signing for the Nix. Could be worth a look.

Just on the topic of Eredivisie - it definately would'nt be seen as a second tier. Maybe a player from a lower team in the league would be great for us.

Remember the Roar got Sergio Van Dijk from the Eerste-divisie (Dutch 2nd div). Im not whether he was a standout for his team but you'll find many of the players in the Eerstedvisie are of Eredivisie reserve quality. Some arent bad players but are young and put into the 2nd div to find their feet while the bigger 1st division clubs track their progress. Hence, why there are alot of 'Loan' deals between 1st and 2nd Div. It's pretty Incestuous!

I think we'd be okay with a player from this level.
