Just on the topic of Eredivisie - it definately would'nt be seen as a second tier. Maybe a player from a lower team in the league would be great for us.

Remember the Roar got Sergio Van Dijk from the Eerste-divisie (Dutch 2nd div). Im not whether he was a standout for his team but you'll find many of the players in the Eerstedvisie are of Eredivisie reserve quality. Some arent bad players but are young and put into the 2nd div to find their feet while the bigger 1st division clubs track their progress. Hence, why there are alot of 'Loan' deals between 1st and 2nd Div. It's pretty Incestuous!

I think we'd be okay with a player from this level.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serginho_van_Dijk - seemed to be pretty big for them

Potential formation based on that insightful article:

                            Paston
Muscat          Siggy               Dura            Lochhead
                                McKain
           Lia                                   Bertos
                                Diego
                 Greenacre         Astley

If it is who I think it is... he will be a great signing!
Not a prolific goal scorer... but a good target.
Had some limited success in the SPL too...
I think he's 34 years old now, so it is a short term solution.

Would Webber or Carney meet the Criteria for a marquee player.

David Carney being the ex-Sydney player?  If so he was vastly-overrated.

Didn't Tony P mention that the other UK Target didn't want to sign as he was still involved in Promotion Play-Offs...

ol' one foot would make marquee status, but I think his aspirations are well beyond this part of the world.

Crowther

Muscat - Durante - Sigmund - Lochead

McKain

                  Bertos                                              Lia
Diego

Greenacre - New Signing

Like the look of this new goalie Crowther. Very big and am tipping him to get the start over Paston for the first game of the season. Still need to sign one more forward from Europe if not both. if only one then one of Krishna and Corrales. Would love to see Costa get more opportinities this year. Killen would be an excellent signing but would be bad for NZ football to lose a European player and he would demand high wages. He should never have left Hibs but see that he is now being linked with Aberdeen. I think the Nix will do well this year.

"In other transfer news, Wellington Phoenix are expected to trial an unnamed 24-year-old Dutch striker when they play Melbourne Victory in Queenstown at the end of next month.

It's believed the player has just been released by Dutch second-tier side Dordrecht FC and was recommended by Gold Coast United midfielder Zenon Caravella who also had a stint in the Dutch lower leagues"

Lets hope he plays a bit better than Zenon Caravella. Its good they are trialling him against Melbourne and not just some local side,so they can see if hes really up to it.

This guy is born in Curacao....which is an island in the Caribeean. Thats exactly what we need... a Rasta man, dreadlocks and all. Bring him here!!!!!!

if you have a look at the Dordrecht FC site they have about 7 forwards listed. could be anyone of those. The clubs logo is a sheeps head At least he would feel at home in NZ

Lets all hope that its going ahead. Maby if theres space after the trailist come and (sign) ricki and tony could offer one of them a 'back-up' contract for a year

Agreed. Would be nice if we could get Greeny down, Have these two new strikers trialling, and Bring back Luis and Roy and compare them all.

Dont know how much hope they got left, but these strikers might not fit under the cap and I'd imagine the locals couldn't control too much

If we had a youth team then maybe sign Roy?

Too old. NYL is U-20, so I imagine our yoof team would have to be the same, even in the NZFC.

If we can get away with U-21, though...
